Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
Not 100% sure if I caught it a couple weeks ago or if it were just the effects of the booster shot but I had a mild fever, chills & a slight cough with weird throat thing with body aches the day after I got my booster for 2 days or so then I ended up stuffy feeling with loss of taste & smell for about a week. I never got tested bc I refused to wait in a 3 hr line around potentially other sick ppl so I stayed in & isolated myself until it went away.

Got some on Amazon for $17.99 shipping on 2-11 days.

I’m pretty sure I’ll get sick at work, but at this point I just have to live my life. I’ve read a lot about it and we will all get exposed to covid at some point. It’s just about protecting the vulnerable, so I mask up on public places outside of work. I’ve accepted my fate. I’m vaccinated, boosted, and taking vitamin D and Zinc. That’s about all I can control.i have to weight the pros and cons at this point and just choose from the lesser of all evils.

If you are quarantining I suggest watching this South Park episode

If you had a loss of taste that is one of the common reactions from Covid so it sounds like you contracted it right around the time you got your booster shot (and unfortunately before your booster could provide more immunity)
*I'm not a licensed physician though......so just my opinion based on what you've said
Anyhow glad youre back to feeling better again.

I know I got it on a plane over the holidays. If you fly, wear an N95. I wore a standard "blue".
But seriously, Omicron does not care if you are vaxxed, get boosted and wear your N95, and prepare to get it.
I'm probably going to avoid flying until the surge goes down. Hope you are better soon.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
I just started wearing mask again. I can't police other people to do the right thing so I just do what makes me comfortable.
My neighbor is Polish, anti vaccines. She'd always take her children to a pediatrician that would treat children without vaccines. Most pediatricians do not do that.
No one in the neighborhood would dare to ask her about vaccines but I will next time I get the opportunity. I normalize asking people if they're fully vaccinated. If they're offended or upset then that tells me they're not.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
ER rooms are now getting filled to capacity again. In CA we have a mask mandate in place. I wonder if there will be another lockdown. So many ppl are getting sick, places can't stay open bc ppl are too sick to work.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
They're saying that people should be wearing the N95 masks now instead of the cloth/cotton ones. I don't go anywhere other than to ob/gyn appointments. I see all the medical staff there wearing those, even the pharmacist at the pharmacy located in the same building. Good luck finding any N95 masks anywhere though. It seems they're all sold out and buying online takes freaking forever with shipping.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
I swear to god if the one person in my life dies from this fucking vaccine I'm gonna lose it. They can't literally get out of bed, coughing, for their 3rd shot. UGHHH I just am shocked. Tried to be as polite as possible and nice on the phone.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
They canceled Sundance ... this variant is serious. I had my room reserved and the hotel wanted, I kid you not, $15,000 to cancel. I sent my positive diagnosis to my lawyer and had him deal with it; all resolved. So many conferences and events are being delayed or canceled.
It feels like I haven't gotten any worse, so maybe I'll stay lucky and it is just like a bad cold.

How many times have I posted that the N-95 was the only really effective mask ?

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
If you get vaccinated (and you should) you are really only protecting yourself. It will NOT prevent you from getting Covid. It will prevent you from getting seriously ill. With two shots AND a booster your chances of having to be hospitalized are very low. If you are otherwise healthy and not obese your chances of having to be hospitalized are microscopic. Likewise, vaccination does NOT prevent you from spreading Covid thus you should wear a good mask like the N-95.
Defense Secretary Austin was triple vaxxed , wore a mask and a face shield and he still contracted Covid. Well, he is obese but other than that seems healthy.

Re: Covid News Thread Number 500
Vaccinations don't prevent you from getting covid, but if you're vaccinated, you're less likely to get it than if you're not. The infection rate for unvaccinated NYers is 6x higher than the rate for vaccinated NYers.
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/coro...cases/3476250/
Quote:
The risk of breakthrough infections more than quintupled on a rolling basis in December, while the risk of such hospitalizations nearly doubled; unvaccinated NYers are still getting infected at more than 6x the rate of vaccinated ones and hospitalized at 14x the rate of unvaccinated ones

Oh damn. Rest as much as you can and try to eat well. I hope it's a mild case and you recover quickly.
