American F14s never encountered MIG-29s. They did shoot down two MIG-21s. I'm not sure if any Iranian F-14s shot down any MIG-29s.
A fighter plane is only as good as its electronics. A MIG-29 with upgraded western electronics would be an effective fighter plane, but one with old Russian or Soviet electronics would not be.
What's something that doesn't fit in your ass and doesn't buzz?
A Russian-made ass buzzer.
Okay. It's probably been decades since I saw the movie.
It looks like they’re preparing to try saving face by focusing on the Donbas.

$500 Million? They probably spill that much whiskey before breakfast.
From Jack Detsch at Foreign Policy : Russia lost at least 5 generals fighting in Ukraine in less than a month. This resulted from poor communication and a lack of discipline among conscripted troops. ( Btw, Russia is sending in some 1,000 private contractors i.e. mercenaries plus Belarussians and Syrians. ) Mercenaries usually lose to native patriots fighting on their own land - American Revolution ; Vietnam; Algeria ; Angola etc. ) Russia is finding it very difficult to communicate orders to the front lines. The Ukraine invasion involves more troops than went into Afghanistan. The loss of so many generals and at least one admiral matters because Russia relies on stringent top down command with greater involvement of Generals in tactical decisions. According to retired U.S. Admiral James Foggo the Russian forces have broken down into an undisciplined rabble. The Ukrainians on the other hand are capitalizing on decentralized commands , greater local initiative, greater motivation and higher morale . They have a clear objective obvious to one and all : National survival and independence. Many observers say they are "winning".
Long term, Russia is in major trouble. They have made a long term enemy out of Ukraine. Russia's population dropped by 1 million in 2021 alone. Unlike the U.S. , Canada and Western Europe there is no immigrant flow into Russia i.e. who wants to live there ? They have an aging population , a low birthrate and lost a lot of people to the pandemic. That does not include some 200,000 Russian emigrants just since the invasion and at least 10,000 otherwise healthy men who are now dead and will never be fathers .Those emigrants include some of Russia's "Best and Brightest" causing a serious brain drain. The Russia of 2030 will be much weaker than Russia today and in 2040 it will be weaker still.
I just think it's funny how before all this began everyone was like oh no not a war with Russia! We're done! Now we're finding they can't even beat Ukraine. It's fucking hilarious. I think there's a lesson in all of this. What's that saying? Empty barrels make the loudest noise? Every Ukrainian I've seen interviewed have been defiant and determined to fight for their land while russians are either apologizing and making justifications. Now Putin is supposedly retreating. Another thing, Biden needs to grow a fucking pair. Putin is a "war criminal" and a "butcher" but oh no we can't say he needs to be overthrown. I just wish we had people with balls running this country. I hope the next election produces viable candidates. Maybe Chris Rock can run. He may as well since people are deifying him already. Maybe a comedian is what we need to make America great again. *shrugs*
This is what I was talking about supra. Calling Putin a "butcher" and "War criminal" and saying he needs to be removed sounds great. It might even appear to be justified. But please join me in stepping back for a moment and looking at things from Putin's POV. Forget about his hurt feelings ; assuming he has any human feelings. He watched us talk about "regime change " in Iraq and then depose Saddam. That was AFTER we had put the Taliban on the run in Afghanistan. Then under Obama we killed our enemy Osama Bin Laden by technically violating Pakistani sovereignty. Then we supported deposing Gaddafi in Libya with an air campaign. That was after an aborted attempt to get rid of Chavez in Venezuela. Putin took all this in and said to himself : "Vladimir , why can't you move into Ukraine and depose the comedian and restore a Russian puppet like you had before ? If the U.S. can do it with help from a few of its NATO allies why can't you ? "
Fortunately he has not been successful but look at the cost the Ukrainians have paid. Their country has been devastated and partially depopulated. Which is one of several reasons why I think we ought to watch the rhetoric and promote meaningful negotiation. Talking about "defeating " Putin is nice but at what cost ?
Several hundred Russian soldiers were forced to hastily withdraw from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine after suffering “acute radiation sickness” from contaminated soil, according to Ukrainian officials.
The troops, who dug trenches in a contaminated Red Forest near the site of the worst nuclear disaster in history, are now reportedly being treated in a special medical facility in Gomel, Belarus. The forest is so named because thousands of pine trees turned red during the 1986 nuclear disaster. The area is considered so highly toxic that not even highly specialized Chernobyl workers are allowed to enter the zone.

Thank you for that Eagle. I was surprised to find out there was an operating facility in the Chernobyl area. What those Russian soldiers experienced is no surprise. They are what Russian troops have always been since the days of Stalin and before that , the Czar : cannon fodder. Plus they are victims of poor planning. Remember how we were told throughout the "70's and '80's how much training Soviet troops got in chemical, biological and nuclear warfare ?
I guess they lost the manuals and training guides.
It's difficult to tell whether it happened because of stupidity, or disregard for the lives of conscripts.
Stop to imagine Russia has 1000 nukes. Are they being taken care of? Is Putin being lied to about that too? The equipment was in terrible shape. Are the nukes any better?
Goddamn check this shit out, there's some serious looney tunes out there.
This started because an industry guy thought a joke on a club sign about hiring Ukrainian dancers was in bad taste. Then this other whackjob started in about the club actually wanting to hire Ukrainian Nazis, or else women running away from them, and how anyone who knows Ukrainians will know the country is run by Nazi swine. I'm only posting the choice bits. ;D

Then this other whackjob posted a meme of Zelenskyy from when he was an actor, I believe it was photoshopped to add swastikas

That's an excellent question. Nuclear tipped missiles require constant inspection and maintenance. To check out just one missile requires hours of inspection and troubleshooting. The hydrazine fuel used in some missiles is highly toxic and corrosive. Most of our arsenal has been switched to liquid hydrogen or solid fuel. Less toxic , not corrosive but still requiring a lot of inspection and maintenance.
^^ It is a nightmare over there. It breaks my heart.
Even if Ukraine 'wins' the war, what country wants to go through such senseless carnage and devastation in order to 'win'? Russia's brutality is supposed to send this message to its next victim - even if you fight back and manage to defend your country, the senseless massacre and devastation will be so horrific that you will wish you had surrendered instead of fighting.
I think we should go after Putin, even if it means WWIII and human extinction. We've had a good run. It would be more heroic for humanity to end going after evil incarnate Putin, than to let him live and continue to do this to innocent people.
It's doubtful Russia will be able to do this again. Their army is being destroyed. So is their economy. They're not able to manufacturer tanks because they don't have the parts.
^ Tell that to Finland and Sweden. They are trembling with fear and are in serious talks to join NATO. Russia may be weakening, but, they are still regarded a super power, and their savagery has the same effect as terrorism.
