There's a video going around of Chris Rock mocking Jada Pinkett-Smith on HBO all the way back in 1997, when she was Jada Pinkett.

Here's her actual speech:

It's been a couple days since what transpired and my opinion still stands. I have no issue with the slap. I'd much rather Will rightfully so slaps another man than his wife.
Who gives a fuck if this "shouldn't" happened at the Oscars. Will didn't choose the venue, Chris did.
I would definitely feel loved and protected if my man cares enough to come to my defense. People said that was violent but I disagree.
Probably because I'm a violent Hoe so I have no problem with violence.
I'm disgusted by the surplus of low value men that are appalled by what Will did but have no problems beating their wives/girlfriends senselessly.
What's even sadder is women that find the slap "violet"
but acceptable for their men to beat the fuck out of them.
I agree with this but I will go even further than that. Sometimes, violence is necessary when it comes to putting many men in their places. Many of them don't know when to stop and people allow them to misbehaved without punishment. How I see it, Chris Rock and Will Smith learn big lessons. Yes, being comedian is job but that doesn't mean should say any old thing without issue. Sure, I agree Will could have waited into afterwards but it's done now. It's simple, Chris Rock got put in his place and I respect Will Smith even more for that. Time for the world to move on. Time for these men to move on as well. A lot of people bitch and nag about Will Smith putting another man in his place when it comes to his wife but they have no issue at the countless of men who have punch or nearly beating women to death. They have no issue with women being mocked into tears by men. They have no issues when men belittle children. They have no issue with men beating children and women until they die. These people often don't have an issue with men taking out their most violent impulses on women, children, and even animals. But one rich black male celebrity puts another one in their place at the Oscars with one slap.. than all hell breaks lose.
What's also amusing that half of the Hollywood people bitching about this...did much worse. For example, Alec Baldwin actually killed someone, beat photographers, verbally abuse his ex-wife, beat other men, and verbally abused his children on videotape. But I guess he felt so superior because he didn't do in front the Oscars.;D Plus, the Academy know they gave the Oscars to much worse people including Emil Jannings ( Who was actually Nazi whom Hitler and Mussolini adore. But then he try to lie after WWII about his Nazi activities.) I didn't see where the Oscars demanding that Emil Jannings estate give his Oscar back despite him making multiple films for multiple Nazi governments .But I guess as long as that Nazis act great onstage...it's okay for them to keep their Oscars. ::)

Also I feel like Daniel Radcliffe had an perfect response to this situation:

Girl, you made some really great points. I wished I could thanks more than once. Men know that by nature, women are not violent or ready to go as far as they do unless they're batshit crazy as I am. It's sad that so many women are so indoctrinated to accept abuse and disrespect. There are also different standards of behaviors that are expected of women than men. Violence is necessary when the situation is called for. A lot of women need to get over being nice, polite and ladylike and endure being assaulted and verbal/physical abuse with a smile on their face.
These are big lessons people can learn from that goes beyond Chris Rock and Will Smith that when you talk shit, some people with 'Will Smith' your ass. I strongly feel if your jokes are hurtful, then you shouldn't be a comedian or be more creative with your jokes. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and judgment on what Will Smith did and that's their prerogative. I don't want to be the 'judge and jury' of what people think. However, who hasn't lived and not reacted badly or how people think they should reacted differently so let's not be hypocritical and 'holier than thou".
I want to take it further and address the parents that feel they don't want their kids to be subjected to the kind of "violence" that Will Smith demonstrated on TV because many considered him a role model so they expected better. If parents have to depend on celebrities to set good examples for their children then it's their responsibility to check and work on their parenting skills.
A lot of these parents have no problem with their children watching violence on TV or play violent video games so let's not be selective of what kind of violence is acceptable.
I was over it on day 2. LOLL. Privileged millionaires causing drama amongst other millionaires who don't give a damn about us anyways. Nothing for me to see here! LOL
Rando side note: I will never forget when my sister was like 6 years old and we were at the bank and pointed and shouted "Look Mommy! That man is bald!" I'm sure my mom just about died inside as that man stared at us.
Thanks girl. You also highlighted another problem with this "issue". People making random people into role models. How are celebrities' children role models in the first place? Sure, many celebrities do good things but that doesn't mean you should have your children look up to strangers as their role models. Personally, I feel that parents should try to be the people their children look up to. It's really the parents' fault if they look up to any celebrity as role model for their children.:)
Seems Chris used to have a crush on Jada & she chose Will. And we all know how men act once rejected.

He mentioned cult leader type, isn't Will in Scientology?
Will and Jada left Scientology in 2015.

Lol cute joke^
I would've never apologized to someone after I decked them. If they deserved it fuck that, they don't get nada from me. He probably only did it for publicity & or felt somehow "forced" to bc of how ppl were so appalled by it. Sometimes violence is needed to put people in their places in this world otherwise bullying continues. It's ridiculous. They make standing up for yourself a crime these days *eyeroll*
No men will hate you more than the ones you rejected, lmao.
I believe Jada once dated Tupac. People that considered what Will Smith did was violent have no idea that would consider run of the mill reaction compare to what Tupac is capable of or would do if he was still here.
All these fairweather Will Smith "fans" suddenly turning their back on him, claiming that they're DONE with Will Smith now. Yet half of them are probably still all "ride and die" for R. Kelly. ::)
Pardon my ignorance, but I usually do not keep up with all this celebrity stuff, and online I'm constantly seeing posts about "Jada cheating on Will." Weren't they in an OPEN MARRIAGE? And weren't they SEPARATED at the time she got with this August dude anyway? Why are people acting like theirs is a traditional marriage, and that she broke marriage vows? Or is this just another case of a woman being slut-shamed for having a sex life with someone other than the father of her children? And they are not the only couple who's in an open marriage. Mo'Nique and her husband have one, as well as so many other couples.

Exactly that's why it makes no sense how people keep saying "Why didn't Will have all this smoke for August???" Because he knew about it and didn't care. Didn't August even say that Will gave their 'entanglement' his blessing? Will recently said in an interview too that there's never been any infidelity in their marriage because nothing has ever been a surprise. OPEN.MARRIAGE.
That doesn't surprise me one bit. Many already turned their back on him just for the simply fact that he defended, Jada-his WIFE and the MOTHER of his children because they believe she isn't worth losing his career over. So she was to blame for the action of her grown ass husband ;D
And what exactly is a traditional marriage and according to who? LOL
Yes, they are in a consensual OPEN MARRIAGE by CHOICE. And a big yes to another case of of a woman being slut-shamed and blamed. I honestly don't know why people care so much with what goes on in other people's marriage. What effect does it have on their lives?
People love to share posts about mental health for likes, and then will turn around and make cruel jokes/memes about this woman's hair loss. It's mean. It's all fun and games until someone you care about starts cutting themselves or worse.
Even D.L. Hughley (who I adore) had to cool it with the autism jokes when his adult son told him those jokes made him feel like his dad hates him. :(
I see that someone shouted "Fuck Will Smith!" at Chris Rock's comedy show, and Chris shut him down. Good on him for that.

Do you think the production of the films "Bad Boys 4" was stopped because of this incident?
A number of news outlets reported that it was.

I thought this video really humanized ‘Nice Guy Will’ and helps to explain why he might have acted so ‘out of character’:
