Funny… my old roommate grew up in the backcountry of Mississippi, and he has no shortage of the Sheriffs Department doing exactly the same shit you’re claiming they don’t do. When I lived in Johnston County here in NC, the JCSO had a history of doing the exact same shit you’re claiming they don’t do.
So it’s probably more likely to be because they’re more apt to bootlicking, the same way they all turned out to make excuses and act as apologists for the cops in pretty much every controversial police shooting which makes the news. The same ones who posted things like this…

… ignoring that those cops were prosecuted and convicted, and the expectation that they would be was always there. Whereas that expectation really hasn’t traditionally been existent when they shoot one of “the darkies”.
They hold law enforcement more accountable? Horseshit. They’re just more fond of the taste of pork and leather.

In the red states most law enforcement is handled at the county level by elected Sheriffs, who are held accountable at the voting booth. When a Deputy pulls a county resident (and voter) over and starts some process, he/she had better have a damned good reason for doing so.
In rural and unincorporated areas, sure - that holds true in blue and red states alike. They used the same tiered system - municipal, county, state - for LEOs in red states as they do in blue states, and your “red cities” have their own municipal police forces. Granted, states like Montana, the Dakotas, Texas, etc. will have larger tracts of sparsely populated and unincorporated areas, so the Sheriffs Offices will be more of a visible presence there, but their most populous areas will still be policed by municipal police. Even in cities which incorporate both as cities and counties (such as Denver), it’s the municipal police who carry out active and presence functions, not the Sheriffs Office.

That's literally not true. - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-b1922518.html
Re: SCOTUS Overturning Roe v. Wade
Isolated incidents do not equate to a systematic pattern of abuse.
For many years countless cities and towns in blue states have relied too much upon traffic citation revenues to fill budget holes, in the process turning their cops in revenue collection agents. Add to that the broken windows policing long adopted in some larger cities and the result was a dramatic increase in streetside encounters with cops. I know because I lived in 3 of those states and saw it firsthand. They inevitably never let anyone off with a warning because they needed to feed the beast.
Of course that horseshit inevitably hits lower income people the hardest, including minorities. Then, when they can't pay the seatbelt/cell phone/whatever ticket on time they end up driving on a suspended license. Or when they can't afford to make the repairs necessary to get that inspection sticker, they end up driving on bad tags. And then the next time they get pulled over, they get thrown in a cell and their cars get towed.
You can only do shit like this for so long before you create anger and desperation in a certain subset of your population. No wonder some folks, especially people living in those places, support defunding the police. Yes what set the riots off was a single horrible act, but that was just a spark set to a powder keg that was already set to go.

I knew you would move the goal posts. Gave one example and now you need more. I guess that makes two of us bowing out of this useless thread.

Sorry naomi, I didn't move the goal posts intentionally, I just didn't communicate adequately the first time. There always exists a one-off chance of a bad encounter anywhere. There may even be an exception somewhere out there to the rule regarding the Sheriff model. But on the whole this shit doesn't happen as often and is not as systematic in places where the police are directly accountable to voters. This makes a world of difference in our everyday interactions with the police.
Re: SCOTUS Overturning Roe v. Wade
I had an abortion many years ago. Most women cry when they have abortions. I was happy. Happy I wasn't having that man's baby. The actual procedure though was very unpleasant.
I got an abortion because I didn't want to have a child with that man and I knew I needed to work on myself before bringing a child into this world. And honestly, for some reason I didn't even know emergency contraceptive was an option. I have no clue why. I was young and dumb. I blame the education system.
Had abortions been banned or non-existent, I would have thought twice before having unprotected sex with that loser and would NEVER have found myself in that predicament.
I read a reddit the other day that said "I just turned 18. Roe V Wade is being Overturned. I'm losing my mind. I don't know what to do" and I couldn't help but shake my head.
America has become a country of people who don't think at all. If I found out tomorrow that the color blue was being banned, I'd wear pink, white, green, you know... there are a whole lot of other wonderful options out there besides blue.
Why in the world are people acting like they're banning condoms, birth control and plan B pills?!?!?! WHY?
I am for a woman's right to choose and do whatever the hell she wants with her body but this isn't some sort of life or death situation. Hell you know what works up to 72 hours after unprotected sex and is a whole lot cheaper? Plan B! It's awesome! And a whole lot safer than trying to use abortion as some sort of birth control option.
We need to do more about educating our girls about keeping their parts to themselves and not having sex with Tom, Dick and Harry just because they're nice to them. We need to teach our women about taking responsibility and not outsourcing their power to some man. These men obviously do not give a fuck about us. I came into the world by myself. It is my responsibility to look out for me. We also need better parental education. I know too many women, myself included, who were thrown into the lion's den by their own mothers. Abortion isn't the problem. It's a symptom of a much larger problem we're refusing to discuss.
Having an abortion is one of the most traumatizing experiences you can ever go through. Even with General Anesthesia, you can literally feel them RIPPING AND SUCKING the baby out of you. I knew girls back in high school that used it birth control and women that are still traumatized by their experiences today. I only had one and damn near needed a shaman to rid me of the memory of it. I still believe that it is a woman's right to choose but I am not going to go on some crusade to fight for abortion rights because I know how damaging that experience is to one's mind, body and spirit. Let them ban it and let's teach our girls personal responsibility and how to not allow their emotions to lead them astray.
Re: SCOTUS Overturning Roe v. Wade
Problem is Tech Queen they plan to ban birth control too, especially Plan B. I remember the well the decade they tried to prevent Plan B being used at all. Then we have 17 States that are writing laws as we speak to out law abortions. So those with dead babies in them, etopic pregnancies will have to go to court in order to get an abortion. In which by that time, many of those women will have died.
https://www.newsweek.com/louisiana-l...murder-1704013 Louisiana is the most cruel law so far. These laws make it so that women of child bearing age monthly cycles will be tracked & every miscarriage will be investigate as a possible murder. You way underestimate the cruelty of these laws.
And if you had done your research or merely listen to Republicans then you would know that they want to do away with Sex education all together other than teaching abstinence.
Hell, the Governor of Texas wants to do away with Education https://www.commondreams.org/news/20...blic-education These are the people you want to trust with our future?
History before abortions were legal, besides back alley abortions. Many teenagers who got pregnant committed suicide.
By making abortion illegal even women who miscarry will not seek out medical care because they are afraid of being arrested and die. A million women miscarry a year, Covid just now hit a million death. So those of you sitting on your high horses are so willing to see a million women or more a year die?
You are also throwing every rape victim including kids raped by their fathers forced to carry those babies? Cause teaching girls to keep their legs closed has YET TO PREVENT ONE SINGLE RAPE! Your cruelty towards other women is astounding.

Excuse me, there’s a difference between miscarrying and having an abortion.
I could argue that rape victims would benefit from a contraceptive than an abortion.
Do you not realize that the process of getting a baby aborted is even MORE traumatizing?
Cruelty is feeding victim mentality in women. I’m not sure how we went from this to rape victims. Rape victims SHOULD have the the right to choose like everyone else. In the event of rape, plan B CAN be used!
You are going out of your way to misunderstand me. What I said was very clear. A woman should have the right to choose but this (ban) is not a life or death situation because there are other options such as plan b. In the event plan b fails, the patient should have the right to an abortion. Exceptions should be made.
Name ONE situation where a contraceptive cannot be used to terminate a pregnancy.
This society has brainwashed women into being passive, catty and victim minded.
I’ll join the march when they ban plan b and other forms of birth control.

Re: SCOTUS Overturning Roe v. Wade
I know plenty of women who had surgical abortions. None of them had physical complications, every story is valid including yours. It’s only helping the anti abortion cause to act like it universally traumatizing. It is a medical procedure. I had a friend who took the pills after a miscarriage, for her that was a lot worse then the d&c she needed to actually safely remove the rest. This isn’t about women being careless this is about control.
Birth control wont do anything for ectopic pregnancies.

Thank you. I understand this perspective and I agree.
However, two things can be true and once you’ve had a baby ripped out of you, you cannot unfeel it.
It saddens me that an 18 year old would think her sex life is over because abortions are being banned.
This country has failed its people in more ways than one. The education system alone is going to hell.

Definitely agreed on these parts. They are trying to erase decades of progress for women.
Been getting reports so I had top close this for now, hopefully I can edit out the parts that had people making reports.
