Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
Wait 'til you start getting Vampire Insomnia. Bedtime is 8 or 9 AM, and you just cannot sleep! Sometimes I am up until noon or one in the afternoon.
My advice is to try to go with the flow, and learn to like it--there are benefits to being a vampire--perks like eternal youth, superhuman strength, the ability to dominate those around you with the power of your will, etc.
Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
And try not to sweat this Brendalee, we as humans were designed to go to sleep when the sun went down, to rise when the sun came up, for survival. Alot of people feel the effects! take power naps, or good hour long naps when you can.

"You'll never see my face or hear the sound of my feet,
while there's a moon over Bourbon street"

Best vampire song ever recorded, this post just made me think of it.

Since Im back in school it's kinda hard for me to stay awake during the day but after 1 or 2 Im okay just as long as I get hands on lab work. My class is from 9 am to 4 30pm. It's my third week of school and gotta adjust with time and I only work 3 nites a week. Hope u'll adjust to time and be okay!

Hershey,
Me too with the school. I have 8am classes and I usually don't get home from work till 5am. So I'm only working on days where I don't have school the next morning, but it's still hard to get to sleep early on school nights.
Brendalee, how bout doing some volunteer work to get you out in the world and back in society? You could watch children at the womens shelter, help out at a soup kitchen or food bank, even do office work for a charity that you admire.

Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
Well Brenda,
I've worked the 7:00 p. m.- 3:00 a.m., and midnights for years. Here is my advice on how to deal with it.
1. If working midnights try going home before the sun comes up, and light proof your room. This will help you sleep and function better. [The airforce found this out the hardway, the first Stealth fighters were flown only a night. After a few crashes due to pilot error, the Airforce figured out why and came up with this remedy]
2. Do not eat just before going to bed. It only causes indigestion and screws up your sleep cycle.
3. Do not eat after 2 a.m. Your body produces certain hormones that aid digestion. Your body does not do this after 2a.m.
4. Phone off, and pagers off. 9 to 5 er's don't understand that calling early in the morning or scheduleing meetings in the a.m. is the equivlent of us calling them at 3 a.m for a simple errand.
5. If working midnights try to take a nap a couple of hours before having to get ready for work, this recharges the batterys.
6. Adjust your daily schedule around your need to sleep. If your getting off work at 2:00 a.m. don't schedule your first class at 8:30 a.m. this unrealistic and will leave you tired all day. Try taking later classes or shopping around for the classes you need at the times you need at other colleges. I have to do this it's hard but you get used to it and you meet new people.
7. Start going to the gym an hour after you wake up and eat a light breakfast. You'll be suprised to meet so many people who have your schedule.
8. Take a class or two at the local Junior College, even if your not interested in earning a degree, there are plenty of classes to take that could be interesting for you, photography, Art, Fine Arts, music etc. This will also keep you social, and active.
9. Do not drink caffiene at least 7 hours before going to bed, this for some reason can disturb peoples sleep cycle.
10. Tivo!!! You'll love the power of fast fowarding through your favorite TV show's long commericals.
11. If your going through long periods of Insomnia followed by long periods of sleep. You might be suffering from depression, as this is a symptom of it. You'd be suprised what the right combo of Med's do to restore your sleep cycle.
12. Martial arts, shop around find someplace that has hours suited to accomadate your schedule, and suits your interest. You'd again be suprised how many people are around during these off hours.
I hope this helps, and good luck.

Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
I worked the night shift at my job for almost a year, (7pm-7am) and I actually slept better than I do on the dayshift.
the best advice I can give to to get some VERY dark curtains for your room. minimise the lights coming in though the window if you have a master bedroom do the same to your bathroom window. if you get it dark enough to need nightlights all the better, and just Don't turn on any lights, use the nightlights to guide you. basicly your are tricking yourself into thinking it is night..... 8)
Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
Dark out the windows in your bedroom is how I got by on the grave yard shift. I found when I took naps it made things worse. If you get up early stay awake. Be warn out when you go to bed no matter what time it is. If you only sleep for 5 or so hours stay up. Your body will get use to it and you will sleep your required time. It may take a week or two but you will sleep. Also make your bed room cooler than it is outside. It's cooler at night that will help. :)
Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
Many a time I have rolled straight from the club right to a 9am class! You can imagine the looks I got from some of my co-students when it was obvious I had been out all night. Whatever works, I say, just sleep in a very dark room and try to get up earlier on the days you don't have to work so you feel like you're getting some sunlight and joining the rest of society.
Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
Lately, I have been satying up also.
After the club closes and I get changed its 2:30 or so. And 2 of my close friends from the club have been staying out till 5ish. That means sleeping all day till 2pm.
It feels wierd because my boyfriend and my daughter are coming home 2 hours after I get up. They have both had full days.
So my new plan is to go straight home after work. Or at least try!
Re: Feeling Like a Vampire!
All you girls sound like troopers to me. I'm soo lazy compared to you all :P!! lol I feel like I'm working alot when I specifically work Friday and Saturday shifts. I think it's because I feel like I'm missing out on stuff! I'd love to get off work at 2 or 3 am! I get off at 4:30 sometimes 5 am!!! Then I have my hour drive to look forward too. I'm usually hitting the morning traffic when I get off. Crazy huh?
