Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
Here's a random question, and quite a ballsy one for my first post, no doubt. Regardless, I went to school for TV/Film etc, and I live in Los Angeles now, and a group alumni and I are working on doing a documentary about strippers, and the stories behind them (basically everything talked about on this board) But we need actual subjects to interview.
You all seem really intelligent and focused, and pretty much what we're looking for. Are any of you in the Los Angeles area willing to partake in this? We can't offer any pay, since we're looking for funding as is.
Any thoughts or feelings on this? I can supply our tentative proposal of the project to give you an idea what we're looking for if needed as well.
Keep up the good work, this place is great! :)
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
The problem you're going to run into in LA is that there are sooo many people hitting strippers up to make films. When I worked in LA there were at least two customers a night that wanted me to be in videos for them. I would just say "how much?" and it was never enough.
The other problem is the lack of control a girl would have of "her story."
You might have an easier time doing a documentary of the hostesses at the hostess clubs in City of Industry...

Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
:)Have you (or anyone else for that matter) seen Dancing at the Blue Iguana? That movie has a documentary(featuring LA girls--from 'Crazy Girls' club--) done by Darryl Hanna...quite well i might add. So, maybe if you are planning on doing one, pick somewhere else...another city or such. ::) Michael Radcliff was the director, perhaps you could track him down, and see if he wants more...be creative in finding funding, or pick another town! --personally, being a midwest gal, we do not get any coverage! Why not try Chicago, or Cleveland or Indy! LOL!
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
About a documentary, why don't you come over to the UK? I'm sure the Americans would love to see how their neighbours overseas are getting on.
And Winter2003 - Dancing at the Blue Iguana...is it a good movie? Was thinking of buying that and/or Striptease to learn some moves as well as get some ideal entertainment. Let me know if it's worth it.
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
;DPersonally I LOVED Dancing at the Blue Iguana...thought it was pretty factual...and i studied some of the pole tricks to learn even more!!! Three thumbs up!!! lol! --but seriously, great film and you must get the DVD, for x-tra footage/documentary...terrific! ;D
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
Personally, I like Malibu's suggestion. I would be very curious to see how it differs or even how similiar it is for the ladies dancing overseas!
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
I'll have to check that movie out. The only movies/docs I've heard about are the HBO special and another about the unionization in San Francisco. Do you guys know how legit or honest those depictions are?
As for interviewing people elsewhere, I would, really, to get a "natiowide" comparison, but seeing as how we're all pretty broke and trying to put this together on our own, we can't travel too much.
Would any of you be willing to answer the questions in survey form for general facts for the documentary if needed? :)
Thanks for all your help this far, and Sapphire I sent you come information. :)
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
Ok I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dancing at the Blue Iguana. I bought it because I rented like 12 times and the documentary I actually thought was better than the movie. I loved Jezebel, she had gorgeous hair!

Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
Just recently a documentary was made about me and my boss and the other girls that work for him here in New Zealand, and when we went to New Caledonia (where we opened a club), it was a huge hit over here and in Australia. I don't think it was played in any other countries, but the name of it was 'The Real Strip'. Good luck with your documentary.
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
and I will have a look at Dancing at the Blue Iguana it sounds interesting.
Re: Willing to Contribute to Documentary?
So I rented "Dancing at the Blue Iguana" It's pretty intense. I'll have to check out the New Zealand one, but I don't know how readily available it will be over here. Same with "lLve Nude Girls Unite" i can't find that anywhere.
Any other ideas on things to rent/read that would be helpful? Or anyone else in So. Cal interested? :)
Thanks again.
