Curious new dancer. A few questions.
I've been considering becoming a dancer for a while, so I thought I'd find a place to ask a few questions. Hope you can help!
What type of clubs are favored by dancers. Pasties, Topless, or Nude?
How much can I realistically expect to make as, say... a topless dancer?
What are the customers usually like? Are they rude? Do they often try to pull something?
Someone asked about perfume, but there were only a few responses, so I thought I'd revisit that. What are your favorites?
What are some good clothing shops to check out, online of off (I'm in Los Angeles, but I visit Vegas every now and again).
I like all types of music. Is there a particular type thats preferred to dance to at clubs by club owners/clientele?
How do you walk/dance in those shoes!? Seriously!
I hear the majority of dancers are immature/catty. Is this true?
Do your clubs feel like a comfortable/safe environment? Have you worked at any that didnt? What made them feel that way?
I freak out when there are lots of people starting at me, so I'm a nervous wreck about getting on stage. Any advice for my first time?
Is there anything I should lookout for?
I dont expect answers to all of my questions rom each person. Anything you share will be appreciated.
Also, if there is anything you wish you had known before you became a dancer, feel free to throw that in. Thanks! :-*
Re: Curious new dancer. A few questions.
Where are you going to be dancing? I just read a post that talks about banning lap dances in LA.
I dance in Vegas at Crazy Horse Too and feel very comfy here. If you come to Vegas, a good place to shop is Showgirl Supplies on Industrial, close to Sapphire.
Customers come in all flavors. Different clubs attract different types. In the club I'm at now, more guys are nice and respectful than not. Know your limits before you start and how you are going to handle these guys (or girls) who try to push them.
Don't expect to make any certain amount. Some nights you can make $50 while others you can make $500 and up depending on where you are.
Shoes: Practice!
Dancers are girls, and yes some girls can be immature and catty, just like in high school. Some girls have the need to compete with others. I think its best to compete with yourself.
My favorite perfume is Pleasures by Estee Lauder. Some guys don't like perfume because their wives can smell it on them. Being in Vegas I really don't have to worry about that. Its mostly tourists.
For your first time on stage:
You are going to be nervous and that is normal. Take it easy and slow and don't try some complicated move that you haven't mastered yet. My first time on stage I did some silly things. It always makes me laugh when I think about it. Customers like new girls and love first timers for some reason.
It is a good idea to go to clubs to see what other girls are doing and wearing. Good luck! :D
Re: Curious new dancer. A few questions.
Lot's of good answers from Kobi.
There's lots of things to lookout for. Your stuff, girls will steal from you. Drinking, don't overdo it. Your money, it's really easy to let it slip thgough your fingers if you're not careful. Your attitude, treat it as a job, not a party.
Re: Curious new dancer. A few questions.
I work in a pasties club. I'd rather be in a topless one so I don't have to keep explaining why I'm wearing them, but it's the way it is around here. The alternative is place that can't sell alcohol (you obviously make more money off drunk guys).
The money does vary, but it seems like the typical average on this board is around $300-400 a night. Some make less, some make more. My personal feeling is that if there aren't girls at the club you want to work in making at least this kind of money, it's not a good club. My personal opinion is that nobody should be doing this for less than $200/night. You can make that waitressing.
Customers vary. Undoubtedly you will meet these guys just about every night( sometimes more than once): The guy with his friends that wants to show off; the out-of-towner trying to get you to go back to his hotel room; the cheap asshole that will relentless try to feel you up but never has any intnetion of buying a dance; the really cute guy who is fun to hang out with. These are not necessarily guys you need to avoid, but you need to know how to handle them. there are also good guys in the mix....decent guys that are great conversationalists, treat you with respect, and buy dances. Big tip offs to the guys you want to avoid are the ones that won't make eye contact with you or stare at the floor when you are talking to them, guys who pull out a big wad of big bills every time they tip a girl a $1, guys who insist on seeing something under your dress when you come by for tips. Move on graciously.
The majority of dancers are young. they are going to be very annoying for that reason alone. Plus it's a competition. We're all working the same jobs, but we're not all making the same money. it can be really frustrating to be working just as hard as another girl who is pulling in great money when you are not.
The shoes get easy after awhile. You will build up the muscles in your legs so you will rely less on your foot and more on the calf and thigh muscles. it's basically like walking on your tippy-toes all night. I think nothing of it now. You need to use the pole for balance, so dancing isn't that hard.
As for perfumes, guys seem to like stuff that smells edible...like fruity, sweet, vanilla, but also grown up....I think Burberry Brit (just got it) fits that.
