Security?
Oh my god, i'm so freaken out! one man followed me from the bus to my appt block, and tryed to come inside, banging on the door... Hopefully he doesn't know in which appt (out of 45) i live but still... im scared to death right now.... [cry] i just called the police,, can't do anyting, they're all busy (eating donuts, yeah...)
A question for you, girls... Do you have any weapon, trick,... to prevent those things from happening, or to help if it happens? right now, he only one i'm thinking about is staying inside, lock up 10 times each door and window, and never go out again... but i'm sure any of you have better trick?
thanks!
Kateryn

Re: Security?
Wow is that scary as hell! I really feel for you. I don't know about you but I live alone (except for two dogs who could be very ferocious if necessary). If I were you I'd get some mase or pepper spray and keep it on your keychain. Keep your keys in your hand so you can attack if necessary. Kind of like stabbing them with your keys. Also, if you get home around the same time every day you work, maybe you could work something out with a friend that if they don't get a phone call from you by a certain time they should be concerned. I've never had this happen. Maybe someone else could offer better advice. Good luck and keep on alert!

Re: Security?
I keep pepper spray.. I've also hear of portable alarms that make the most annoying, yet life saving at times, noise. Also, if ever in trouble... never shout 'help'. Always yell 'FIRE'

Re: Security?
Another thing is, instead of taking the bus home maybe you could think about taking a cab? I know it is more expensive, but I don't think you can put a price on your security...also, maybe you could share a cab with another girl who lives kind of in the same neighborhood as you. I would be scared as hell to use public transportation to get home at 3 or 4 in the morning because it IS easy for someone to follow you.

Re: Security?
I thought i read where you said you called the police and they can't do anything right now ? WTF. Not in my neighbour hood.
1) Getting a permit to have a gun is good, here in Fl. you have to take a concealed weapons course, a few hours, fingerprints, picture (passport works). May want to look into that. (I know some don't like guns).
2) Gosh you live in an apt. DOGS are a womans best friend! I have 2 pitbulls and 3 Shepherds.
3) carry pepper spray, not too effective is one is strung out big time.
4) have a cell phone for going home use.
5) Next time you are inside the apt, talk loudly....Say "hunny someone followed me home and is outside now"! Loud were the person outside the door can hear this, thinking you have a man in there is always good.
6) IF you can PLEASE have some one drive you to and from work, walk you inside your apt.
7) everytime you leave for work, leave you TV on, loud. Not too loud as the neighbours complain, but loud enough when someone say he walks up to your door, he hears it, and thinks someone is home!
Good luck, Pamela
I have more tips....if these don't work for you!!!!!
Sorry bad spelling day AGAIN....

Re: Security?
Read Gavin de Becker's book, The Gift of Fear. Pepper spray is a good idea. Can you take a cab home and use a different entrance?

Re: Security?
I thought too yes cabs are a great idea but if too expensive (dont know how far you are going or what the details are but...) take the bus and get off at the largest populated stop on the way home the closer to home the better, and take the cab home from that point?
Ask the cabbie to not pull away until you are safely within the locked foyer of the apartment!

Re: Security?
How do you get from the club to the bus stop? This is sooo dangerous. NEVER. I REPEAT NEVER take public transportation home from work. There have been way too many girls that have been raped or killed from this business. (one girl even worked at a club ive worked at) Dont be the one to put yourself at risk. Can you afford a car? If not, the money is simply not worth the risk..Look what already happened to you. This time you were "lucky" next time could be worse. A young pretty girl plus a bus plus late hours is just not a good combination. I know you dont know me, but I sincerely hope you listen to what im saying. Be careful.XOXOX
