Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
I'm sure there have already been some topics posted on this but I am starting a new one. To the vet strippers: what is the best way to get started? I am 18 and in college and hope to start dancing in August after summer break. I'm going to spend the summer working out and polishing some skills so when I come back to school, I will be ready to job hunt. Any tips to start off on the right foot?
To any black strippers: How did you start off? Any tips for me to try to override some of this racism? I've been reading a lot of the messages on club racism and I am starting to feel like there isn't a place for me out there anymore! :-[ As far as hair and body type, what have you found that works for you as a black stripper? What really attracts the customers to you? Thanks! ;)

what city are you planning to dance in?that is a big issue to consider
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
I am planning to look around the Atlanta area.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
The city plays a big part in the attitudes of the customers and management.
As far as body type, the black girls that I've seen really bank have had kind of exotic looks. Lighter cocoa skin and high cheekbones, or built tall and thin. Not the average body type, unfortunately. Of coure, there are always exceptions. I knew one little black girl that was short and round and dark dark blue black that always did really well.
Tina will probably have better answers for you... all I can offer is my perceptions, since I'm not black.

Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Well, I'm definitely not tall. I'm only 5'3" and 128 but I am light with shoulder length hair. I definitely have an hourglass shape, that's for sure.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Well I can only assume that you will do fairly well in Atlanta. There is a much higher percentage of black people there than other cities. I have changed my look 4 times and have found that the more exotic you look the better you'll do(I wear grey contacts, if you decide to wear em dont get the blue or the green they look too fake do either the amber or grey, you can get disposables for aroung $25 per box with a $70 or $80 eye exam and they are a good investment!! a couple of girls at my club have the grey ones). I started with my own shoulder length brown hair, then changed to a longer red wig, then changed to long extensions in my own dark brown color, then changed to a lighter brown wig with blonde streaks, it looks kind of honey blondish brownish, and Ill tell you my $ doubled when I went blonde! guys that I had seen at the club forever and never danced with all of a sudden came looking for me so they could get a dance. Depending on your hair type I would reccomend getting a wig or wearing braids, because the amount of styling I did on my own hair ruined it! I ended up havig to cut about three inches of gross damaged dead hair off!!! I have a pretty soft grade of hair and it grows fast, but I ruined it with all the hot curling!
Well send me a personal message if you have any more questions Id be happy to share any tips I can think of.
Ps Im 5'4 and 120lb so if youre working out and things are toned, not jiggly your body should be fine!!!
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
because you're in Atlanta you'll have way fewer difficulties to deal with than other cities. But there are a couple of issues that can't be avoided - #1 getting your dancer's license, and #2 getting some costumes.
Also, I would highly recommend that you check out a couple of clubs over the summer simply as a customer to see how they work, how the girls dress etc. My favorite Atlanta club is Cheetahs. Some of the upscale clubs may be reluctant to hire a brand new inexperienced dancer, but then again some may not.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
I would suggest sending Tina a private message.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Also check out clubs that have black dancers. Good indication you have a fine chance of getting in!
Best way to learn about strip clubs is ..Visit first!
Good luck! Pamela
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
in Atlanta ALL clubs have a significant percentage of black dancers! Atlanta clubs also have a significant percentage of upscale black businessmen customers who have 'class' and who spend similar amounts to white customers. If every city was like Atlanta, black dancers would never have to worry again!
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Hello the_new_girl. As a fellow black dancer I want to welcome you to this board.
Well I started at an urban club but just didn't fit in there. I thought by working at a club like that I would'nt encounter racism. Well I didn't but I had to bend over backwards for $1. Since then I have moved to a mixed blue and white color club in the suburbs. And I do very well at this particular club. And also the majority of customers that spend money on me are white men who totally love black women. You will be suprised how many of them do and I cash in on it!
As for looks the money you make and who spends money on you definitly depends on the type of club. At your typical urban club they want girls with fat asses who can shake it. That was definitly not me. So even though I looked better in apperance than 75% of the girls I worked with, the girls who could make her ass clap made all the money. On the flip side the club I work at now I fit in nicely. The customers pay for beauty, sexiness, and good conversation rather than raunchy stage moves. A few girls from Newark come in every now and then an my manager is really nice he'll let them work. They will go on stage for one set and leave because they find the customers "corney" and they don't shower them with money when the clap their booties.
The look that works best for me is a long (at least 18 inches) streaked weave and hazel contacts. And since I am of Caribbean decent I look very exotic. I'm also 5ft 8in so my best features are my legs. I always play them up by wearing shork dresses and skirts.
My advise to you is visit the clubs you want to work at so you can view the atmosphere, girls, and customers first before you audition. You have to know that you may be pretty enough to work at a club but you may not make any money due to the customer tastes (my example above). Also don't get discouraged about the racism. You can't let anything mess with you mind in this business because it will eventually mess with your money. Also when you go in to talk to a manager and even when you get hired and start working in a club don't act ghetto. I was rasied in Brooklyn NYC so I can get ghetto with the rest but I turn that off when I'm working. Alot of people will automatically judge you as a trouble maker and want nothing to do with you. So you will either not get hired or not get that dance.
Ok I hope all of this helped.. And good luck.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Melonie is right Altanta is easier to get a job than NYC. So just go and audition see what the clubs is like there.
Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
uh oh. I guess Im kinda late to post here bu hopefully not lol. Yeah, Im a black dancer and I would suggest u go in those clubs u may want to work as a customer to check it out and feel if it's the club u want to work there. It will also give u a chance to see other dancers, their stage work and etc. U can also try to talk to dancers if possible.
U'd be surprised how many white men would be attract to black dancers and u probably can bank well! Some good nites and bad nites with assholes who wouldn't give u a time of the day to get dances from u would be pain in the ass and we all dancers have to deal with it.
Anyway good luck and keep us post whenever u take a step farther.

Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
Hola,
As a fellow black dancer, I concur with the other ladies on their advice. I am 1 of 5 black ladies at my club and we ALL bank. Here's the deal though - not every black dancer is the same, nor will we attract the same type of customers. One dancer and I tend to attract white business professionals, pro-sports guys, college frat guys, and older gentlemen. The other black dancers attract pro-sports guys, hip-hop guys, and most other black/hispanic gentlemen. Of course, all these guys have money and are buying dances, so we are all winners!! [dazzled]
Just find your customer base (one that you are comfortable with)and adjust your look accordingly. My look is exotic, but very natural looking. I have long braids and use my dark brown eyes to flirt with the crowd ;)
Good luck to you!! I'm sure you'll do well.

Re: Attn: Vet Strippers/Black Strippers
I just stumbled on your post and will give you my vibe.
To me starting out in any business one needs to experience all types of environments.
I have never danced in Atlanta but have visited several clubs there. Just like any major city you have your ghetto blacks as well as midstream and a few upper end ones.
The black clubs are kind of hard core a jivey and are slow until about midnight as blacks tend to hit the clubs late. those clubs are more for the "urban girl" who is more afrocentric looking and who has not grown up in an integrated environment.
I find that lighter color hair such as silky straight #30 or 33 maybe 27 dependent on your skin tone worn long such as 18 inch or more will draw some of the white men to you and some will think it is your real hair. Hee Hee.
Being soft spoken and articulate and not loud and argumentative is key also. being comfortable talking to all races and ages of people is key. some new black dancers flock to the black customers or younger black guys where your money is made off the older white men especially since white people outnumber us even in Atlanta. I am not saying to ignore our race but realize tha the customer at least in his 30's to retirement age is more apt to pay for a dancers time.
Don't look to start dancing at the high end clubs right off and in Fulton County you have to pay a licensing fee per club which if you don't like a club will be expensive. Try the outlying county clubs 1st and just get in a middle of the road club first who will hire just about anyone to get some experience.
The higher the volume and more upscale the club the more choosey the club owners and managers will be about hiring, especially if you are black. So many black girls go in a club with attitude or lacking the social skills to interface well with white customers that you will have to occasionally push the club to hire you or tell them to give you a few days and if they don't like you you will leave.
You need some experience before you tackle those places so just start out on a mediocre level. You'll be ok. If you are a good worker and are likeable at the club you might make a few white friends who can help you get in better places.
Right now just get your fewet wet and make sure you ask everyone for dances and learn to talk to the customers no matter what they look like, but don't get caught up sitting with a bunch of college aged guys. They are not going to pay a girl their age for company.
Any more direct questions feel free to PM me.
