I want to start stripping....
I live in Houston and I want to start stripping...not really that I WANT to, but I am pretty sure Icould handle it, and I have been out of a job since september and can't seem to find work anywhere. The idea of setting my own hours is attractive, and I do like to dance. I'm not sure what clubs would hire me...I am 5'5 cute face, chin length brown hair, about 140 lbs, kinda white and pasty, I am curvy, I don't really know what to think about my body....I don't know if places would hire me or not...I'm not FAT, but I'm not like a supermodel body...I have plenty of pics. I would like to chat with some people who know what they are talking about...if u have AIM please IM me at Clal2ity (thats an L then a 2) I'd appreciate any advice!!!!

Re: I want to start stripping....
One thing that surprised me when I first started dancing is how heavy some of the girls were. My impression of dancers was from TV shows and movies, and they all looked like Barbie dolls.
The question you should be asking yourself is not whether or not a place will hire you (some clubs will hire just about anyone), but whether you can handle the cattiness of other dancers and the unsolicited opinions of customers. They can be brutal.
There are some guys that prefer bigger girls and seem to be largely black and hispanic, so I would hedge my bets in a club that attracts a lot of those kinds of men.

Re: I want to start stripping....
i feel like i need a mentor...someone to tell me the ins and outs of what to expect...as i have never even been in a strip club...i almost wish i had a friend go with me if i go apply someplace because id be so incredibly lost and shy about it until i really knew what its all about....also, i dont know if this is true or not, but i hear a LOT about drugs being involved in strip clubs...is this true? Do the girls really go coke up before they get up on stage? How common is this? Also what do I need to expect if I go to a strip club to be hired? Thanks Emily for your input! Anyone else is welcome to respond I want as many opinions as I can get!

Re: I want to start stripping....
Don't worry about your weight. You're about the same as me and I've never had any trouble being hired anywhere. Plus take into account that we wear 6 in heels, so suddenly your almost 6 ft tall, 140--which is one curvy amazon!! As long as you are in shape i.e., minimal cellulite, no particular bulges anywhere, you are fine. I find I always make more than the twigs anyway.
I live in TExas too, but I dance in Austin. From what I read on these boards there's some stuff you may want to take into account before you try working in Houston. Read all about it, then make your decision.

Re: I want to start stripping....
yeah, i refuse to do the "other things" that a lot of the girls in houston are doing now...id rather work at 2 or 3 places and work more to make my money than doing 15 minutes in the back with a sleazeball to make the same amount...also i dont know the first thing about dancing...i go to raves a lot so i can do liquid and stuff, but i dont really know how strippers dance other than what ive seen in movies....do they teach you at the clubs?

Re: I want to start stripping....
On the drugs question... That's more of a stereotype. Sure there are a few girls like that. I see it every once in a while, but very rarely in my club now. I'm sure there are some who do drugs at work but they are discreet about it. The best/ most money making girls are the ones who keep a clear head; no drugs, little to no drinking. If you are new and nervous, a drink or two may help but never over do it.
On dancing...They don't teach you anything at the club. They may show you a list of 'rules' on table dances, but no one actually abides by those. The only way to get it is to watch and learn. My first day I spent chatting with girls and just sitting there watching before I had the nerve to go up to a customer. Then you just do what the other girls do(not the nasty ones). If you don't want to go on stage while you are new you can pay the DJ 20 bucks to not call you. I wish I knew that way back then!
I've never had to audition in Austin or San Antonio. They kinda just eyeballed me, and showed me a locker. I don't know if you will have to audition in Houston, you may want visit the club ahead of time to find that out.

Re: I want to start stripping....
Claire --
First things first, good luck!
Second, post a new message in the main board with a title like "Houston Club scene?" and see if you get any dancers from there.
Next, as for your weight, I wouldn't sweat it. My weight bounces around a LOT (I have a real prob with that). There are lots of different clubs and what you have to do is shop around for one that's fairly relaxed. "Show-clubs" often are looking for model types or girls with huge implants. However, there are plenty of what I like to call "neighborhood" clubs that deal with traveling businessguys or frat boys and are much more relaxed. I think a great smile and a great personality is what wins, particularly in more relaxed clubs.

Re: I want to start stripping....
Good luck Clarity...Your picture sure is very pretty. I think you would do fine. Read around here, learn some tips and tricks. I think you may like the world of stripping.
Clubs have all kinds of girls, tall, short, skinny, heavier, busty and flat pretty much. Your attitude will have alot to do with your earnings, i can tell you that for a fact!
Lotsa luck!!!! You'll be fine. Pamela :D

I've seen plenty to veteran dancers who are in the 170-200# range.

Re: I want to start stripping....
Clarity,
First, don't listen to Lover. He's a troll that likes to annoy dancers.
Secondly, there ARE girls doing extras and there ARE girls doing drugs, but you do not have to do any of this. You will still make plenty of money if you are good at your job. Stick to your guns.

Re: I want to start stripping....
I don't know the Houston scene at ALL, but I can tell you that on both sides of the country (Phoenix, where I danced, and the southeast, where I've visited clubs), there are plenty of clubs where you can make great money and NOT give handjobs.
As for the drugs, yes, I've known a few girls who have a prob. These girls, in my humble opinion, would have a prob with drugs even if they were working at Wal Mart. Dancing doesn't lead to drugs. Dancing is the only thing they can do to AFFORD the drug habits. However -- and this is VERY important, MOST of the girls I've known who dance are pretty well clean and sober, PARTICULARLY while dancing. Remember that it's a business, and one that's fairly physical (try WALKING in stripper shoes for 4 - 6 hours, much less climbing up and down on a stage!!!) Girls who are zoned out, for WHATEVER reason, simply don't last long. Physically, emotionally, and mentally they can't keep going.

Also go to
www.aspd.net go to "forums" go to "Houston" go to "strip clubs" and you can read about what goes on there. If you don't know the abbreviations, I can post them later.
I went to that site and saw what all those pervs have posted about girls in my area and Houston. Lover can you pm me and tell me what the initials to all the services those guys claim to have received stand for.
ps I think those guys exaggerate or completely make up much of what they say on there. I've danced 5 years and have never seen a single hand job take place.

Re: I want to start stripping....
Good luck, Clarity.
Remember the locker room rule when guys talk about their "experiences": "The ones that talk about it the most get it the least."

Re: I want to start stripping....
where Houston clubs are concerned, three things are happening which make earning decent money very difficult for dancers who choose not to offer HJ's BJ's FS to compete with the girls that do. #1 is that the clubs charge stage fees and tipouts, which means that the first $50-$100 of a girl's earnings are not hers to keep. The second is that Houston clubs are allowing way more dancers than are really needed to book shifts (in order to charge more stage fees), meaning that the customer per dancer ratio has never been lower than it presently is. The third is of course that if there are several dancers available for each customer, that customer can select which dancer he'd like to pay to take in the back based on many factors - but a major factor is whether or not he's going to be offered a HJ, BJ etc.
If a girl is required to pay out the first $100 of her earnings toward stage fee and tipouts, only earns $50 in tips all night, and sells maybe a handful of trips to the back room because customers discover she's not providing anywhere near the mileage other dancers are, you've got a formula for big financial trouble!

That must be because your club does not tolerate extras. There are clubs where extras are prevalent and management condones or supports it.

Re: I want to start stripping....
I worked in Houston for 13 months at St. James and Ritz and years ago in Gigi's and Mirage.
Disregard all the extra talk on this board for a second.
On the positive, the tip outs in Houston are very low. There are no schedules in the top clubs ie: Treasures, St. James, Gold Cup, Centerfolds, Michaels, and also none in Houston Dolls, Heartbreakers Splendor, and Cover Girls and Glamour Girls.
St. James and Houston Dolls only require a Texas ID and go T-Th between 7-9 to get hired. Heartbreakers needs no license.
Houston clubs are time and company clubs where you have to sit and talk to a customer vs. the typical strip club in other cities where you go table to table and get stage tips also. stage tips are rare in H-town and your money is typically made off of several customers vs. several dances off of multiple guys.
You should get a license to work in the better clubs which is done M-W-F from 8-12 requires a $29 money order and 2 passport photos from Walgreens which cost $7.99. You go to the Vice Dept, Downtown, dancer division which is a separate building. call for the exact address. they will do a warrant check in Texas which is basically it and fingerprint you. Without a license if the club will take you you dance in full bottoms.
House fees are around $5 at lunch (11AM on floor) and go up throughout the day. Max is about 450 if you go in after 8-9 in most clubs.
keep in mind that daytime in clubs like St. James and Michaels is a better clientele. i used to go in at 1:30 on Fridays at an $18 payout and 4:30 other weekdays at a $28 payout. Dj tip outs are about $5. That's it. Cheap to work here.
Extras do go on in the major clubs but every girl does n't give them but all girls do a full contact dance. girls don't work the floor there but just find one or 2 customers to sit with. i like a table to table hustle with lots of stage tipping but in the upscale environment Houston clubs try to operate that doesn't happen and guys expect you to sit with them. just approach lots of guys as that will be your niche there. many girls don't.
Just get hired don't be nervous, and see for yourself how you do. Don't waste time listening to all the bullshit. Get your feet wet and if you don't like it, consider moving to a new city to dance.

Re: I want to start stripping....
My maximum nightly tipout figure is $50, not 450.

Re: I want to start stripping....
Mariah,
If you've read through the ASPD Austin boards then for sure you've seen my screen name. I assure you that most of what you read (especially in Houston) is not exaggerated. In Austin it's a bit tougher to get extras (especially at night when you primarily work), but it DOES happen....
...but talking about extras, etc. in this particular thread is definitely off-topic, and I have a feeling most of the posts in this thread dealing with that will most likely be deleted.
Clarity,
Tina is one of your best sources of information on Houston, and of course she's posted her info. You don't necessarily have to work IN Houston. Maybe you could visit Heartbreakers which is just outside Houston on I-45 heading out to Galveston. That was the first strip club I'd ever been into, and it's a really nice place...a sports mans' club! Definitely one of my favorites. I don't think you need a license to work there, but one of the dancers here would know for sure.
As far as your body type, etc., I wouldn't worry about it. Curvy women rule! ;D

Re: I want to start stripping....
Good luck! I just startd not to long ago too. Just be aware of the snooty and b****y females. They are everywhere. Second, dancing is not as easy as every one thinks. You will ocme home and your feet will hurt, your knees will feel like a nancy kerrigan case, and you will be in general beat! Butif i could do it you can too. Ummm, just look out for yourself. You will hear alot of things about you dancing ranging from good to just pure hellish! But keep your head held high, stay away from the extras and drugs and you will do great. Good luck!!! ;) ;)

Re: I want to start stripping....
Hi Clarity,
I'm starting off as well (in San Antonio) and I wish you the best of luck! As a customer of two popular SA clubs, I've seen a nice mix of women in regard to size and like Pamela said, the ladies with the friendlier, go-get-em attitudes are the ones making mucho dinero - regardless of body type!

Re: I want to start stripping....
Actually, Lover brought up some of the concerns that cam eot my mind when she mentioned Houston. And although he has shown himself as a troll in the past, he brought those issues up in a calm and respectful manner, and did not mention his own perosnal views regarding prices and extras. Unpopular though it may be, a little credit for personal restraint should be given when it's due.
Clarity would perhaps do well to email or private message some of the members on here that are from that general area and it's surrounding towns. I'm sure they could give her better insight into what to expect and what to avoid and how to work the system while staying within her comfort zone.

Hey Tini,
I have a club in mind, and I am working hard on it. I'll PM ya, thank you so much for the info, it helped motivate me to look around, be a little braver!
I am really excited!!!
