In NYC people are afraid of using the subways. Like my mom. How is the talk of war in your city. Here it seems to be getting worst. And do you think its going to affect the strip clubs big time. ???
And may I add Bush is crazy.

Hi Tini,
I'm in San Antonio - home of 3 air force bases and 1 army base - and things are really heating up around here. Just yesterday, while I was at one of the base hospital with my mother, we had a bomb scare. They actually found evidence of one. We've also had our schools threatened (I currently work at a private school). It's pretty scary living in "Bush" country (Texas), but we try to carry on with our everyday lives with fighter jets roaring over our heads every hour or so. Having close relatives in the military( in particular a sister who is in the Airforce and could be called to go on stand-by at any moment and my Navy-enlisted sis-in-law who is currently on a boat in an undisclosed location) I just hope that Warmonger Bush Jr (as I so lovingly call him - heavy sarcasm) considers all alternatives before declaring war on Iraq; not all nations are friends of the U.S. and though we may have one of the largest military forces in the world, small fingers working together can make a mighty fist. I'm not looking forward to the loss of lives - American, allies, or Iraqi.

Im right down the road from the Space Center, and work at a hospital too. We as hospital workers are at the top 5 to get a Small Pox vac. It all sucks. I have a few friends who work on the "black program" they can't say a word about it, so i know nothing, just the looks on peoples faces. Pamela
This whole thing seems to be based on a whole lotta perceptions and conceptions and not too many hard facts. U don't always have to have proof to know something, but I think Bush is acting like a child in many ways. I understand his desire to keep certain countries from having nuclear weapons b/c of indiscreetly blatant expressions of hate and desire to bring harm to the United States, but I don't see anybody threatening to wage war on us because we have them. It is besides the point we are supposed to be a "civilized" nation. We are as much of a threat to any other country as any other country to us, so who are we to demand they give up something that we have ourselves because we are worried about our safety.
I also heard this morning that North Korea has promised to began firing upon America if Bush continues to levy threats at them. They stated in the simplest of terms that if Bush continues to threaten that they will be forced to strike first, and not wait on him to follow through with his threats. If there is gonna be a war,so be it. I just hope that our president has thought this through. This is a now thing that is gonna affect America for years to come.
I totally agree with you. The selfish reason why he's lashing out on Saddam is to finish what is father started. Not a brainer.
I love living in the United States, but it ludicious how they throw around the word TERRORIST. Which scares alot of people. And also the USA goverern have killed many people in other countries and I'm not talking about war. :-/
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto
the leader and gladly so.
How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
-- Julius Caesar
"People can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism. "

While one of my number one rules is not to discuss religion or politics with friends or family, I must clarify and say that the quote below is fallacious and isn't from Julius Caesar. It was quoted to be, by Barbara Streisand during the 2002 Dem National Convention, but it was found out to be an internet hoax that was being sent around via email. I do love the calvin & hobbes quote, though!!! :)

Hey, I've got an idea!
Maybe we could all band together an offer him a free lap dance a month if he calls off the whole Iraqi/N. Korea assault? It's not quite the same as a blow job, but considering what happened to Clinton, it might be enough...who says strippers can't be politicians? ;D
On a more serious note, I like that Goering quote. I was reading through one of my history texts today on the origins of WWI and it struck me what a similar state we're in now -- countries racing to build up armaments to "discourage" each other from attacking, marked distrust between powers, and mostly an incompetent leader making a lot of idle threats and bluster with no clear intention of following through (though in this case I'm afraid it's us, rather than Germany). If this keeps up we may well end up in the same boat as Germany post-WWI...
In any case, I don't usually try to discuss politics online (it tends to create more rifts than it's worth), but I found that pretty striking. Out of curiousity, has anyone else noticed it?

I'd just like to add that I am in terrible fear of the impending war. My significant other is a recent honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy. At anytime he could be activated and deployed. If I lose my man to this stupid, unnecessary war, President Bush better just run for his life because I'll be coming to get him. ??? :'(
Politics and religion are my VERY weak points. I may know enough if i get a book out or watch the news for 3 hours before talking about them. But for the most part. I respect what anyone believes.
Heather_Young, My prayers and love are with you.

Oh, well, good to know. At any rate, I still like the words themselves, made up or otherwise.Quote:

Calvin and Hobbes rock. Plain and simple. I tell you though, Dr Seuss is still my president! =)
Just makes me sick that now that someone is threatening to wage war on our turf, that war suddenly becomes, "bad."
Bah, this is why I hide from the world and hang out with my horse!!!

Yeah, I don't really care to discuss the political nature of our situation but I will admit this:
I bought into the hype yesterday and purchased a bunch of bottled water, heavy plastic garbage bags, tape, you know...all that shit they're spouting for us to be "prepared"
I think the plastic and duct tape is a crock of shit. You can't fully seal off a house. Can someone explain exactly how will sealing off our windows and doors will protect us from some bio attack?
I felt like such an asshole in the store asking where the duct tape was. I don't believe it will help, but I have 2 kids who count on me and I'd feel even more like an ass if I actually did NEED this shit and didn't have it. I'm more worried about riots and people attacking other people if essentials like food and water become scarce. I mentioned to my friend that I don't even have a weapon in the house, not even a bat. My friend said jokingly to use my 3 foot glass bong. Hahaha. But hey, I guess it WOULD work (even if only once or twice hehehe)
Having read Caesar's Commentaries, AKA The Gallic Wars, I am not surprised to hear that quote is a hoax, it doesn't jive with Caesar's writing style. And Goering was the head of the Luftwaffe (air force), Goebbels being propaganda minister (Djoser being the pedantic ass again--the guy just can't shut up, can he).
However...
Smurfalicious, Breaker of Stallions, I love ya' anyway (even more than before), because that is in fact what Caesar did achieve.
Hoax or not, its eloquence is undeniable, its timing perfect as yours will no doubt be when you take the stage. And the arrogance tempered with ironic wisdom does jive perfectly with his relentless, irresistable personality. "Vene, vidi, vici", indeed.
He was a rather self-serving son of a bitch, but even he would think twice before engaging our nation on this perilous course. Bush needs to quit playing with his daddy's guns and worry about the skyrocketing defecit, and our rapidly deteriorating image in the eyes of this world.
There is too, a similarity between now and a century ago. Although our situation lacks the precariously balanced, inevitably confrontational rivalry displayed between England and Germany just before WW I. Thank God we have had no Mahan to egg us on as they did. A century of relative peace for Europe was too long to last. Boys just have to fight with their toys.
The long years of relative peace we have enjoyed, at risk of forgetting the horrors of war, have lulled the population of this country to the extent of being all too willing to believe Bush is correct--in throwing away the respect of the world. Channeling our desire for revenge for the heinous 9/11 attack to his own ends...
To beat up a much smaller boy, and take away the toys only Bush boys are allowed.
Republicans, I am sorry, Democrats suck too. But can't we do better in our choice of leaders?

There was an Italian porn star, Ciccolina (spelling?), who was elected to that nation's Parliament. She offered to have sex with one of those Arab fanatics, Khomeini, I believe, to get him to calm down. My memory is shot from too many bong hits (not now! Holly, please don't spank me again, I'll be good).
Sapphire, you can at least use the duct tape to fix your bong.
Djoser
Yeah, I hear ya. My employer actually told our staff that we were entitled to two free "nuke pills" (potassium iodide) in case of a nuclear attack or accident. These pills allegedly saturate and protect your thyroid gland from radiation.Quote:

There's an Air Force Base about an hour from where I live. Call me crazy, but if it were to be hit by an ICBM, I can't imagine myself walking around the rubble of my neighborhood telling everyone that despite the fact that my apartment is gone, my skin is every color of the rainbow, and my hair is falling out in clumps, that AT LEAST my damned thyroid is safe!
Well, excuse me for voicing a different opinion, but then again I lost two people I knew in the WTC attack and am reminded of that every time I see the great gaping hole where the WTC used to be. I am also against war in principle, but I have no problem balancing 100,000 battlefield casualties removing a tyrant from power against the 1,000,000 lives that tyrant may take through unchecked actions (historians read up on Saddam and the Kurds, Little Joe Stalin and the Gulags, 50% of African nations ...). But ultimately I realize that as long as there are criminals civilized society can't survive without policemen who are willing to actively exercise their power to stop criminals. In a similar vein as long as there are tyrants civilized countries can't survive without armies who are willing to actively exercise their power to stop tyrants.
If nothing else I have a vested interest in seeing my way of life continue, and the Islamic "opposition" now has the means to severely impact my life. How ? Well #1 there is the whole scenario of repeated terrorist attacks on the USA, with my home town being the preferred target.
#2 there is the potential for the Islamic "opposition" to totally change our way of life economically. How can this happen ? - simple through shutting off the oil spiggot as was done in the 1970's and also through trashing the US dollar by insisting that oil be paid for in gold (the Islamic Gold Dinar, to be precise). The net result of these two things could easily, EASILY lead to $ 5.00 / gallon gasoline prices in the USA, with heating oil and natural gas and electricity taking a similar jump. Also every product made in the USA from food to cars will see major price increases because of the energy cost component (yes, chemical fertilizer is very energy intensive to make, so is steel). Every product made overseas would be more expensive in US dollar terms because the exchange rate would be forced down by the Islamic Dinar. Gold has gone up 25% in the past year, and the US$ has gone down accordingly in relation to all other major currencies. If the value of the dollar becomes directly tied to gold through oil, the dollar will drop even farther. This will raise prices of everything imported, from WalMart's Chinese made products to Toyotas to Sonys.
Yeah well, so what does that have to do with me personally ? Think about this. If your average dance club customer sees the dollar value of his weekly gas purchases double or triple, plus sees his home heating and electricity bills double, plus sees his food bill go up by 50%, but does NOT see a pay raise because the company he works for also has to pay huge energy bills and pay more for raw materials, how is he going to cover those cost increases ? Well, many probably won't be able to no matter what they do. But the first thing that will happen is that your average dance club customer is going to start cutting out all "non-essential" expenditures. Ladies, we are "non-essential" !
Update: We are now at dark orange flag which means preparing for war. Next it's red flag that mean Wartime. Pray for the country. :-[
Melonie my mom was in the WTC that day. She use the PATH train to go to the Exchange Place. Thankfully she got out safely. That was a terrible for everyone. That last time I went to WTC was when the put up the last. I pass by after that but I cant take it. :(
Melonie, the power of your mind is impossible to deny. Thank you for making your most valid and frightening points. I'm still not sure about war or the true motivation of Bush, but I love that you make me think.
No one could deny that Saddam is evil, and he's gotta go. But the situation is so delicate, I don't trust Bush to do it w/out screwing it up.

This is one of the reasons I have hesitated to buy a new car recently. I've really been thinking about buying one of those new electric golf carts. They're street legal and I live at the beach so......am I just a weirdo?
No, except if you get hit by one of those gas-guzzling bohemoths its gonna hurt. I found that out when a drunk hit me on my bike, so now I enclose myself with a nice big box of steel, LOL
I live in Daytona, what beach are you on? Answer optional, of course. The cops might track you down for that bong...

Yeah yeah... I never claimed to be a history buff. More a fan of anthropology, sociology, etc.Quote:

My um, former intimate friend was all obsessed with Ceasar, the Roman Empire, etc. In fact he fancied himself the utmost authority on it. Ugh. For what it was worth he wasn't that stellar in bed. :P
The details of how the whole thing got started are on snopes, and apparently a few people used it for their own purposes.

I still don't understand pissing off people who have big guns/nukes/etc. My buddy had a philosophy on gun control. He said they should be mandatory, if you're caught without a gun it's jail/fines/etc. Then he figured everyone should get one tag to kill one person per year. Now before you go nuts here, think about it. You'd probably be awful to nice to me, because you'd never know if I had used my tag or not. Wouldn't you? =)

don't put your fingers there unless I tell you to!
simply eliminating the leader of another country does not solve the problem.it will only spread the hate of america to other middel east countrys and that could create the third world war
JohnK, you said it all, with a lot less words than I did.
Thank you.
Smurf, sweetheart, I am so sorry if I came off all pedantic again. I'm just a history buff, so I can't help telling what I know. If it's any consolation, the Hoax quote was so close to Caesar's mentality I thought sure it WAS real, different as it may be from his style. 'Til NYCjacqueline straightened us both out. Which she, superb woman that she is, is welcome to do to me anytime. As are you, if you feel I have been wrong.
Those words are very important, whether they came from an ancient egomaniac, an activist actress, or whoever.
I for one, am glad to have read them, and gladder still that you joined this board.

PS I used to call one of my very favoite dancers who rode, The Stallion Breaker. I pay tribute, with this epithet, to your spirit, your style, and your awesome sexuality, which though I have not witnessed it's effect, I have no doubts about.
Thank you johnk. You feel alot like how I feel on this subject. I myself don't see how so many people can sit back and support something as evil as war. I'm sorry, but Bush is just trying to finish something that his father couldn't finish a long time ago. In my opinion, this war that we may be going to is all about the economy and oil.
what dark orange flag???
where can you see th flags or is it a figure of speech
