I'm getting an apartment. What do you guys put under the employment question? I'm hesitant to write 'stripper'. Can I write 'independant contracter'? What do I say if they ask what that means? Any help is appreciated.

Either "self-employed" and you sell things on ebay, or you're a cocktail waitress (which explains your schedule).

I've always said I'm a dancer, honestly. But if you don't want them knowing that then waitress has worked for plenty of my friends. Just be sure to tell your manager, in case the leasing agent wants to call the club to confirm your employment.
if your landlord is just interested in knowing that his rent money will be reliable, by all means go ahead and tell him that you're an exotic dancer! On the other hand, if your apartment is in a snobby building you're better off just telling him that you're "self employed", or that you run an "internet business", which won't have the same negative stigma to other tenants as having a Stripper living next door.
i agree w/melonie...you should be able to feel out the landlord.....believe it or not, some guys i've talked to in real estate prefer renting to dancers because they always get their rent and their never late with the money ;)
I agree with all posts, but some people, landlords are good for this, may not want to rent an apartment to you if you tell them you are an exotic dancer because most think we are party animals, or will be bringing home alot of different guys.
Just shows how some people can be so ignorant about our jobs.

At one time I worked for an apartment complex and we would call the prospects employer to verify employment. If he/she said they were self employed we would ask for some kind of proof of income such as copy of tax forms or letters of reference from customers or venders.
