How much does it cost to get a license for Seattle? How do I get one? What else do I need before I start?
God, this is expensive starting out, I just keep telling myself I'll make it back soon. You ladies are so great.

I agree with the fact that when you need a license to start dancing it is expensive!! Sorry I don't know anything about how to go about getting licensing in Seattle sorry hun...
The best place to look for that information is on the web. Try searching the web sight of the county police department where the club is located. You should be able to get a number to call that should provide all of the information for you.
I can't speak about Seattle but, in Atlanta you are required to buy a license for each club you dance at and the county the club is in determines the price.
The fee for the club I dance at right now was $200.00 and I am going to have to get one for another county that is $300.00.
Yes it is expensive but, you have to spend money to make money!!
Best of luck and let us know how it goes!!
Actually, all of the dancer's licensing requirements in every city I've ever been to which enacted them are based on local ordinances not state law. This means that with a few exceptions like Vegas which has its own city website that you're not likely to find much info on the web.
I have never danced in the NorthWest so I can't help you with Seattle particulars. But in general, the ordinance directs some government or police agency to be in charge of the licenses - usually either the local city cops or the county mounties. The licensing procedure usually goes like this ...
1 - you fill out the license application with your real name, address, age and social security number
2 - you give the cops the application along with some form of photo ID and your money ($25 to $350)
3 - the cops run a background and criminal record check on you
4 - if there are no outstanding warrants, and if they didn't find a record that you have been involved in drugs, theft, prostitution, or a violent crime, or of having violated a similar ordinance in another location (some places only count convictions, others count charges whether true or not), you'll get your license
5 - that license becomes part of the city/county public record of official documents which may be available to anyone for viewing (or in some locations may only be available to law enforcement/private investigators/potential future employers)
Personally, I am totally against dancer's licensing. While the licensing is supposedly intended to weed out girls who would potentially introduce drugs, sex and other crime to the local club scene, in reality it seems to be mostly a scam which A. takes money from dancers to add to the city coffers, B. makes local dancers much greater targets for local police surveillance/questioning/charges since the cops know who you are, where you work, and what you do for a living, C. makes local dancers much more "controllable" by clubowners and undercover cops since often even the threat of a bogus prostitution/ordinance violation charge will result in a girl's license being revoked such that she can't ever dance again in her home town, D. opens the door to problems with future potential employers when the girl applies for a "straight job" and the corporation's applicant screening investigator turns up the fact that she is/was an exotic dancer, and my personal favorite E. it's highly likely that the IRS and your State Tax Dep't will also be informed that you are working as an exotic dancer (complete with your real name and SS#) so they can do an easy computer cross-check of your tax return to see if you reported dancing income!
Can be quite expensive for some. I have a license for 2 clubs i now work at. One i don't. I really don't mind being licensed, it's like any other job, fill out an application.....the government knows where to find you. I have never had a problem. Even with a simple application form, it can be submitted to the authorities. Your social security number is on there. any information you give out with your SS# on it, you are public record. I had a friend who worked telemarketing, she was found by her SS# and taken to jail on the spot for an outstanding warrant. When asked, they told her your SS# is just like your tag license.
I just belive it's all the same. Pamela ;)
Hi Suzie
It's roughly $200. Also, they are raising the fees for next year so it will be more!!
You just have to go downtown, and it's pretty easy. Be prepared to pay for parking. I also work downtown so it wasn't a problem for me.
Go on the city of Seattle website...sorry, I don't have it handy. Then, check into licensing and there will be an address there.
Now, if you decided to go ahead and work at Ricks'..or Sugars (Sugars is a small club, good for starting out, but you won't make too much), they are owned by the same people, and they will give you a loan. If you have the money, I say just pay for it yourself.
I think the licensing building is on James or Cherry downtown, 4th or 3rd. Where abouts are you coming from?
good luck!
Bella
I'm coming from wallingford/greenlake. What is the license called, is it just a business license?
I have no idea what I would have done without your help! ;)
Hi SUzie...
How funny...I live in the Udistrict, right near Wallingford!
It is called an entertainers license. I'll do some searching.....It's just been a while since I've gotten one.
If I can find info online, ill post it!
Bella
Hi again,
If you go to www.cityofseattle.net, there is all of the licensing information there.
You'll have to look around a bit, there is a licensing homepage. It will tell you where to go and all that. You are wanting an entertainers license. I am leaving shortly, or I'd find the exact page...but it's all there...just click around!
