Re: More questions. . .
Candi-
I'm sure that all the girls have different advice regarding these issues, and it's all contigent on a few important factors such as : what kind of club you plan to dance in? where you're located? how many days you plan to work? are you a hustler/non-hustler - type?....
but...
from my experience:
My club is 3 blocks from ground zero. we re-opened Nov of 2001, and it's never been the same, of course. 2 years ago, you could *sit on your ass* doing nothing, and still make $500 /night from tips on stage and being asked for dancing. No hustling , or very little hustling. Those days are over. Clubs are indeed slower, and customers are tightening their purse strings. In comparison to a normal 9to5 job, you're still making more money, though. I work 3 nights/week, am not much of a hustler ( i'm more of the social animal), and still make more than what I made in 2 weeks at a 9-5 job. But it's not steady and that's something that you need to face...that your paycheck is not guaranteed.
As far as making things over, my first few weeks of dancing i just borrowed three of a friend/dancer's dresses and bought shoes, which were like $50. Tini mentioned in another posting a great website where you can buy some dresses for some cheap-ass prices. A few of the girls at our club wear very well-made wigs. You can't even tell - and it looks great - My one friend has a short jada pinkett-smith cut, but wears a wig - it looks great on her and totally changes the mood of her face. Check online for some prices, and then go out for a fitting. I'm sure this can get costly, but it could be paid off with a few dances :)
I've never auditioned with a club where they wanted pictures. Most of the time they hire on the spot - if need be, buy a good polaroid -
If you want to do an online application (some clubs in NY do a prescreening online), then you can just go to a Kinkos and get a current picture scanned and save it to disk - a few bucks at most.
There you have it - hope this helps a bit. All the girls here have great ideas and opinions and are sweet as hell, so you'll probably get a lot of good feedback.
Good luck ;)

Re: More questions. . .
I dance in Florida, and have not noticed a drop in visitors to the clubs, but then again i work at a few different ones and try to pick what one is doing a promo that night, (for the larger crowd,) So i can't say if any of the few clubs i work have been hit by 911 with a decrease in visitors. Seems now we are booming with the 'snowbirds' down!

Re: More questions. . .
Candigirl,
Check out a copy of the Atlanta Adult X-citement (I think that is the right name). It's an adult oriented alterna-newpaper, and can usually be found at strip clubs and head shops. They usually do a photo spread of a club in each issue, and many times have candid photos from ther clubs around town. These photos could give you some idea of what the actual club interiors / atmospheres are like without visiting every single club in town - god knows, Atlanta has more than it's share of strip joints.
Do you mind if I ask where you are located? I'm originally from Birmingham, and it is where I started out stripping - it's about 2.5 hrs from Atlanta also.

Re: More questions. . .
Our business has definitely suffered along with the rest of the economy. That being said, in order to make $600 a week working 5 days, you would need to earn $120 a night dancing - that's pretty low. Atlanta is supposed to have some very nice clubs with good money, and I would imagine that you could make your weekly salary in a Friday night there once you know how to work the room. Even without $600 nights, if you work the weekend, and only make $200 a night, you will have made your salary in 3 days instead of 5.
A lot depends on the club you work in and your experience; it will take a little while to learn how to work, so you can certainly expect your money to increase once you've danced for a while.
As far as appearance, look as polished as you can but don't break the bank on dancer clothing just yet. I bet that ATL is full of dancer clothing stores (probably under lingerie in the Yellow Pages) and you can probably outfit yourself inexpensively.
I think that if you look good in braids, you look good in braids - if you don't, you don't. So if you do, go nuts. As long as they're done well I think they're sexy (hate them on white girls though - I think it looks very "look what I did on spring break!"). I have no idea what a club would think - though I suspect other factors in appearance would be more important. A strict gown club may not like them. But hey, there are always wigs.
Hope this helps; I will be waiting to hear about your first night!

Re: More questions. . .
Good idea why not start slow.....wear a great looking wig you like. Much less than investing in extensions right now, until you start making money to invest in extensions, and higher quality clothing. Borrow clothing from friends! Websites mentioned on this board for discounts on clothing you like..shoes ect. And attitude is FREE!!!! Your more than halfway there.
Lotsa luck, Pamela

Re: More questions. . .
Well, the money in Chattanooga can be good, actually. And there are quite a few clubs in that area (I used to spend quite a bit of time in Ringold, Ft. Oglethorpe and Chat.). Some of them are very lucrative, and - if I recall correctly - even bring in XXX features. There isn't the same convention / tourist economy that Atlanta has, but it is still pretty respectable in terms of potential customes. Chattanooga might actually be a better choice - your earnings might be nominally lower, but so will your transportation expenses, which means it should even out. Another positive note is that Chattanooga is not entirely nude, versus Atlanta which pretty much is.
If you want to check into what is available in the Chattanooga area, here's one link with information:

I've heard good things about Diamonds and Lace, but it's been a few years since I had any reason to venture to that area, so it could have changed...
One other thing that may sway you one way or the other:
Chattanooga has only a small handful of clubs, which means every dancer in town is packed into them. What that means is all the customer money is split between very few clubs, but you are probably going to have to hustle like crazy because you'll likely be working with a large number of other girls. Atlanta has so many clubs you can hardly drive ten miles without encountering one. This means there is a larger number of clubs to split the customer money, but they are also splitting the number of available dancers. So the dancer toclub ratio should be a little lower. However, you are probably still going to have to bust your ass hustling to make money with there being a wider spread on customer money due to a high number of clubs. Which factor is more imporant to you, when you consider the outcome is about the same?
