I'm working in Brisbane, Australia right now in a peep show. Compared with America, Australians don't tip. Its not a culture here as it is over there, so when you work in the clubs here theyre generally Commission and Tip based (tips arent much, but commission is about half of the cost of dances). I dont know any places that charge their girls to work there, and you are an employee not an independant contractor. Dances are sold in 15, 30, 45 and 60minute sets, and where I live its $180+ for the 60minutes. Some places will also pay you commission on drinks you sell to the guys... then theres hostesses who set up your dances for you, things like that. No hourly rates, just commission of dances and tips on stage.
The peep show deal is a little different - we get a retainer of $100 per 6.5hrs, plus all tips we make in that time (tips for tricks behind the glass - strictly no inserting *anything* in *anywhere* though) and if we can sell one-on-one booth dances, we get extra for that. Much much MUCH better than dancing in a lapdance club, let me tell you that! No touching, no talking (other than in a private booth, where theres phone communication).
Um.. what else?
Email me if you think of anything else you'd like to know :)
Thanks fellow Claire! I've got an interview on Tues for a gentlemen's club in Melb, so its definately good to hear some info about the culture here.
I figured the tipping side of things would be a little different.
Thank you!
how much money do u make on average dancing in australia? where is the best city to dance in?
Hi ive danced in melbourne at mens gallery which was good and had a go on the cross but that was a little nasty at times only good to go during events in sydney but had a ball on the gold coast qld especially at players, bad girls and crazyhorse were so so and only full of young guys with young wages where players was a higher class deal, i made a killing. Hope this helps Lee
I'm located (and dance) on the Gold Coast. I've been dancing her for over a year now however only at one club mainly. I'm about to try another club next month.
As for Melbourne, I've been told (second hand info) that Showgirls Bar 20 as well as Mens Gallery is the way to go. We also have a Spearmint Rhino here in Melbourne as well. I'm going down to Melb. this month (to play not to work) and will be visiting the clubs for the first time as a customer. I will also be finding out more info. as when the F1 hits Melbourne in very early March... that's the place to be.
Indy is supposed to be the $$ time of year for the Gold Coast however since C.A.R.T is loosing teams each year (and hence Indy is getting smaller)... it is turning into a V8 Supercars race which means less international tourists and more Australians.
Later this year the Rugby Union World Cup will happen so that is also the time to be in Sydney.
The $$ of year is Summer.
As for the other cities... I havn't heard much.
PS Depends on the club if you are an employee, independant contractor or just a person (cash in hand so you don't have to give them any details other than your name and phone number).
Wouldn't it be great to dance in Australia? Live there for a month or so....
It really REALLY depends on where in Australia you are planning to "live" for a month or so.
If you are planning on a capital city.. do some research on the Internet to find out which suburbs of that city are no go places, which ones have high rent, etc.
Gold Coast has 5 strip clubs (rumour of a 6th) currently... in that month you can try all of them and find the one you feel is comfy for you.
You'd need to tell us where in this great wide land of Australia you plan to "live" for a month.
Well, I have never been to Australia. Sydney and Melbourne look the most tempting - but I am open to suggestions. My thought is to work to support myself while living there, hopefully make a bit of extra money, and get a chance to travel. Would I even be able to find an apt to live for one month, or would I be better off in a hotel? Girls, if any of you would seriously consider doing this together let me know. Thanks Aussie:)
FYI- So A PASSPORT IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!
I was in Australia in 1996, and I had to apply for a Visa to enter the country. They don't let you past customs without this Visa and a passport.
It took 30-60 days for the application to be processed and the Visa was good for 90 days. I applied for a student visa because I was on a study abroad trip. There is also a work visa, which I assume the classier better-run clubs would probably require (like here in the States they want to see your SS Card or Green Card)
Check the Dept of State website or contact the Australian Embassy to see what you need to apply for.
Sure would suck if you went all that way and couldn't get out of the airport.

B- What is your nationality? From your name, i have been assuming that you are from Europe. What school did you study at in Australia? did you dance while you were abroad? I know some people on a program now. I knew that students needed visas to get into Australia because they will be living there for a few months, but I didnt know that you need a visa to visit. Ill have to look into this. Thx
:) It really depends on the club that you want to work at whether you will need a VISA to work there or if you can just turn up.
There are plenty of clubs in Australia which are "cash in hand" based hence all they need is your stage name and a contact phone number (usually a mobile). As there are dancers who dance whilst still being on unemployment benefits (the Dole) here.
As for accomodation.... it is best to try and find a place you can share with someone (pay board which covers rent, electricity, phone and/or basic food) instead of a hotel.
I've been told good things about Pure Platinum (and its associated clubs) in Sydney. Melbourne has Spearmint Rhino, Showgirls Bar20 and Mens Gallery. Goldfingers doesn't have a great reputation.
As for $$$$.... watch out for sporting events that bring in International Tourists in Sydney and Melbourne. The Indy on the Gold Coast is okay.
Good Friday is good anywhere... so is Summer/Christmas usually. Winter can be slow all over Australia. Being a good hustler/salesperson is a big plus and will help you anywhere you go.
:D
It might be rather difficult to find somewhere to rent for one month, though, so perhaps a hotel (expensive) or youth hostel (cheaper but less privacy) may be the way to go.
