Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I am always on the lookout for products that work well. I have tried so many different kinds but I have found only handful that work really well for me. Wanted to see if anyone had favs too. Here are mine.
Translucent Powder-Magic by Prescriptives: it is light diffusing powder that feels wet when you put it on. Its very fine powder but you can feel water in it. Kinda cool
Mascara-Kiss Me Mascara: It is made of plant cellulose and it does not smear at all and it lenghtens lashes to a degree. Its not waterproof so its easy to get off. The worse that can happen is that it falls off. I mean since it doesn't smudge, if you get it wet, the fibre will get detached from your lashes and you can just pick it up or brush it off very easily.
Lipstick-Naked Kiss-it has this ingredient that plumps up your lips a little. I get it from the dermatologist's office. Its kind of hard to get but if you see it, its great. It has an ingredient that makes the lips look look more juicy. It makes the tiny lines on the lips not visible and it does increase the volume slightly (temporarily) It feels tingly on sensitive skin.
Lash Wand-a small curler that doesn't pinch. It looks like half a mascara brush. It heats up and works like a hair curler but its just warm enough to do the job. I like it because it does the job very well; more precise.
Kiehls lip balm-I've tried all sorts of lip balm and this is the most effective for me.
Benetint-a red liquid tint from Benefit. It looks very natural and versatile. you can use it on your cheecks or lips. (good for the natural, no makeup look outside the club)
Benefit Highlighter-I've found this product really brings out the facial features well. I put it on the bridge of my nose , cheeks, and chin. They make a white pencil for the eye and I've found that it helps make the eyes appear bigger and brighter.
Perfume-Bobbi Brown's Beach. It smells like the beach and unlike other scents, this one is good for neutralizing odours.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now about my favourite skin care stuff
Cellex-C. A vitamin C serum I use on my face for preventative measures (especially for a smoky or polluted environment). May creams claim to have vitamins but it comes in a form that is not easily absorbed by the skin.
If you ever go to Sephora, check out the products by N.V Perricone. Its interesting to look at even if you don't buy it. He is a dermatologist who has a line of creams and vitamins for the skin. He wrote the book The Wrinkle Cure. I first heard about him on PBS. I've tried these products and I've been happy with them.
Creme de la Mer (the cream celebrities talk about) gave me zits so I got it in lotion form. I was curious about this cream since they market it as some miracle cream invented by some NASA scientist. Its too expensive but I've found it works really well for plane flights. I wouldn't use it everyday because of the cost. I would agree its a good cream but I don't know if many would want to pay the price for it.
If you have skin discoloration from zits or anything, try Obagi from the dermatologist. I had a few zits in high school and had dark spots and discoloration from that. This product line really did a good job in getting rid of all that and evened out my skin tone.
I exfoliate once in awhile and when my skin doesn't feel as fresh I get a skin peel.

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
Cleanser: Cetaphil- makes my skin feel really clean without stripping it of moisture.
-
Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I'm more on the kitchen cabinet/fridge, kinda person. I steam my face at times, then wash off with Cetaphil, like Megan i love it.
When my face is very wet before bed i smear on vaseline, hair is tied back, and i do my best to sleep on my back, i do end up on my side, big deal. I wash the pillow case. Gotta have satin pillow cases, as they are better for the hair, allow for movement, and less breakage.
Daytime, use alpha hydoxy scub to remove any vaseline. (i only smear a very light coat on over my face at night, but it's the best damn stuff you can use to hold in moisture). I scrub lightly, cold water rinse, or rub an ice cube all over my face until it has melted.
While face is still wet i rub on a very light coat of Olive oil. It dries. (not too much, can be oily). Then powder my face with Almay to keep a shine down.
That is my face ritual pretty much, sometimes i use Retin A. But i have cut way back on that. really don't need it.
OH yea Black tea backs over the eyes straight out of cold water. 10 minutes each eye, combats puffiness!!!
Hair, i already wrote about that in the other thread that was started here.
My face feels fantastic! I also play around with cold milk soaked in cotton balls! Under eyes, and a minimal face bleach. I love it. Honey is good too!

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
You mentioned OBAGI products - I cant give that product any due...bought it from the dermatologists office for a hefty price and used it quite a few months prior to the "OBAGI Peel" ($$$$$).
It made my face red and peeled *constantly* - the dr. assured me this was "normal" its "skin renewal" - blah blah blah then said it would calm down and my skin would be fresh and new - it never did, neither did my boyfriends face!!! We did the peel over xmas it takes about 3 to 6 days to completely peel off and we looked like smurfs with severe dermatitus!!!! (product is a bright blue that they paint on your face it burns like NOTHING I have ever experienced and will never again!)
There was little to zero results (I get a better result PAIN FREE and considerably more cost effective from one crystal micro dermabrasion session) and was sincerely pissed at how much money I spent on that product.
Maybe we BOTH (?) werent ideal clients for this product although we were assured we were PRIME clients for it (eyeroll) I think they push that crap cuzza the markup or commissions from selling it. Regardless of who they push it on.
Bah on OBAGI!! :p

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I agree, the Obagi really peeled my face, made it pink and kinda crusty. I was very concerned as I make money by how I looked. When it got really bad, I stopped it and when it got better, I used the Exfoliator more sparringly. I found my face built up a tolerance for it and I got really good results. The good results did not happen overnight but one day I realized all my discolored skin disappeared. I really wanted the blue peel you had but my doctor discouraged it and said I should wait and that was good advice. Staying out of the sun or tanning salon is very important while using these products. Once inawhile, I use the products and I have found they were good. I am no longer sensitive to them. My doctor also gave me some vitamin C serum to use with these products as he says this helps the process.
For anyone who use Rentin A, you can get your doctor to write a prescription for the more potent version. My favorite is called TAZARAC.

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I found a simple lightening cream can help those age spots or sun spots ie. esoterica for example.
No sun - EVER. I use high number block everyday.
And crystal dermabrasion.
Tons o money saved, and better results. But again, everybody is individual what worx for some wont work for others, buyer beware and hit and miss till u find what works for your individual skin req'mts.
I was told that vitamin C loses its potency as soon as you break the seal or open the product? Someone told me the only way to rest assured you arent losing potency is the vit C - is in those little capsules that you break open one application at a time?
Any one have word on that?

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I love the new Physicians Formula brand. I haven't bought any of their funky color combination things, but their eye shadows are good, and their mascara (Lash In A Tube) is incredible. Oh, also their cover up stick.
Vaseline Intensive Care lotion.
Infusium 23 leave in conditioner.
Occasionally Olive Oil for hair or face.
Lavender scented oatmeal soap.

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
LEIGH very true about the Vitamin C products. C is the best thing going for skin right now over the counter. When i went for my Retin A, my doc. said any product that contains C in it (a lotion for example) is a crock of shit. Sure it's there if you read the ingredients, but does nothing. The capsules that are soft and you break are the only ones that have "some" potency. Vit. C is great for the skin! But i have used them, and broke out, i can't handle the capsules.
I have a friend who still buys them, and her skin has turned around for the best! Clear, bright and flawless. Swears by it, and uses no other products. I now am trying Cellux c in the bottle, it's a liquid. But it makes my skin itch some.
Also store the C in the fridge, most products keep longer shelf lives in the cold. Heat will break down any products potency fast.

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
Does anyone know where I can purchase Retin-A online without a prescription. I am running low.
I also used Obagi for years and had the blue peel. The pain was not worth the gain!

I love the physician's formula conceler & the crest white strips!!
Oh and the physician's formula, Sun Kissed Bronzer, I don't tan my face so it even's my body and face out!

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I use a lot of stuff form Sensations (www.swisabeauty.com). My favs:
The nail buffer: I swear I have never gotten a professional manicure since using it.
The Dead Sea Facial Peel: It's a non-abrasive exfoliant. You rub it on, and within a few seconds your dead skin just kinda comes off (ick).
For acne I swear by Pantothenic Acid, which is just a vitamin B5 complex I get from GNC. My boyfriend and I both had cystic acne, and now it's completely gone.

For the scarring? Not sure if you were answering my question.

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
Someone mentioned Witch Hazel astrigent. I got me a bottle yesterday, & yes it does shrink pores well. Good stuff. ;)
That is actually the same stuff they used on my face when I got a gentle chemical peel. And the money that i've spend on that peel was mostly *sigh* WH. ::)

I use the vinegar as an astringent for when I have a pimple and it will make it not leave a scar.:)

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
I use ProActive Solution...it's expensive...but it lasts a long time, so it evens out in cost. It works better than anything I have found so far. The toner it comes with is awesome....and the sulphiric mask is a lifesaver for big monster zits that pop up when you DON'T want them there. LOL
Bright Blessings!

Re: Favorite beauty products and favorite tips???
Just to disguise them (I guess depending on the color, mine are kinda reddish), I use Benefit's Lemon-Aide. It's just a yellowish conceler that I pat on under my foundation.
