Does anyone else dance with traditional heels rather than platforms?
While I occassionally see other dancers wearing traditional heels, I think the majority of dancers prefer platforms. I think platforms are more comfortable, and they make you taller, spreading your weight over a larger height, so you also look leaner.
Platforms are more comfortable since they make the heel more stable, but I feel that I'm too tall (5'9") for platforms so I go with 4" heels. It freaks guys out if I'm too tall.
Yes I agree platforms are more comfortable for the same heel height. I just prefer being able to feel the floor when I am dancing. I guess its just what i am used to. What I like as well is there is so much more choice of styles in the non platforms. I wear 5 inch+ ones so I am not losing much height.
Personally, I find platforms a little easier for me to work in; I feel like my feet look too little in comparison to the rest of my body without platforms, and I feel a lot sexier in them than in non-platform shoes. Luckily, Pleaser (dah-dah-DAH!) saves the day again, as they have a great selection of non-platform heels as well as standard plat shoes.
Have to agree with AndriconGirl - the appearance that your feet arent in porportion to your body when in stilletos not platties. They seem squat and archaic as well.
I know a few dancers though that will not give them up for anything! Thats their choice, I suppose...and the transition from stilettos to platforms is a daunting one but can be done, and eventually you can dance just as well if not better in the platforms.
Plus platties are soooooooooooo much more comfortable.
I for one LOVE them and hope stilletos DONT come back in style. :)
One of the thinks i like about not wearing platforms is that my feet look so tiny. Maybe I am just getting distracted by what my boyfriend likes.

I love platform shoes!!! I don't think I'd be able to dance in anything else.
I usually wear platforms and agree that they are more comfortable - but it is true that a stiletto allows you to feel the floor better. Every once in a while I'll bust them out for a particular oufit, and I use them a lot when I do bachelor parties or private shows (especially the private shows I give my boyfriend ;) ). I would tell you to wear what makes you the most comfortable.
Also, I've known a couple of tall dancers that preferred the Frederick's 4" lucite mules to any other shoe - they are still sexy but don't add as much height. I think that as long as you look good in the shoes, you'll do fine.
I have danced in combat boots, 5' dress stilettos, 6'' plats and now have sevens. Lemme tell you, for a girl that's 5'3'', those babies save the day! Also, I want to bring up that BRANDS of shoes mean more than height to a lot of girls. My feet are happy in Tony (I will NEVER go back to the Highest Heel!). My friend owns a dance clothing company so I have tried most of the top-end shoe brands.
I agree about the brands i tried the Highest Heel and i got my most uncomfortable shoes ever there. I wear almost totally now shoes from leatherworks they cost a fortune but are comfortable and i like the 5.5" heel they do. 6 inch ones without a platform kill my feet and are hard to wear and 5 inch seem a bit low - i am only 5'3 as well.
Oh no! You just *had* to introduce me to leatherworks! I am in trouble! My Fluevog pony boots have met their match! ;)
To be on topic, I love platforms. I am tall, too (5'10") and after a certain point it is a blessing. But I work in a club with a ton of tall girls so it is "the taller, the better".
Speaking of brands....
I love Pleaser, but I've found that their linings tend to be vinyl, and are pretty slippery after about a half an hour. I don't wear leather, so that cuts down on my choices a lot, but Jante makes some killer shoes as well. I'll buy any and every pair of Demonia heels I can find....even if I don't really like 'em that much, I always figure "I can find something to wear with them...." and then end up building an outfit around them so I have a chance to wear the damn shoes.
