HAir tools and tips of the trade.

I use Aveda sap moss shampoo and conditioner, it's ungodly expensive, but worth every penny, I think. You can check out www.makeupalley.com and get some pretty god tips, and deals on products.

Shampoo-wise, I am fond of L'Oreal Colorvive, since I color my hair often. In terms of styling products, I use Physique defrizzer, contouring creme, pomade, and extra-hold hairspray - depending on what I am doing with my hair on a given day. Usually I just try to blow-dry my curls out using a large paddle brush (round brushes tend to break my hair). Mine is only shoulder length, so it's about the only real option I have. Now, if your hair is longer, you can try using a set of hot rollers (I prefer the steam kind, such as Caruso; easier on the hair!), and roll your hair in the jumbo-sized ones. If you do it proper, let it cool and set, hairspray, and then comb with your fingers or a pick, you should have some nice and smooth controlled waves. Sometimes you can even get it mostly straight with this technique. But I would stay faraway from chemical relaxersor straightening irons.
I would also recommend going to see your regular hair stylist and asking if they can teach you any techniques for doing this with less stress on your tresses. Most are willing to do so.

Curly hair....wow! What i would give, my first suggestion is go with what you got, don't fight you natural hair texture, in the long run you don't want to damage it, todays products are much more hair friendly, but still damaging when ever you are constantly trying to change natural hair texture.. But you want advice from us, so....while your hair is still damp run a de frizzing or relaxing cream through roots to ends. Light on the roots however. I would not blow dry, only makes for more body which = more curl. Or if you do blow dry get a flat blow dry paddle (any walgreens eckerds ect,) and blow dry with hair serum in the hair with down ward motion.
Ther are alot of over the counter products for relaxing wavey or curly hair too down right frizzy hair. I would not recommend any long term use of heat, as heat is very damaging to hair.

I have curly curly hair and have finally given up on trying to wear it straight - it would never stay that way more then a couple hours anyways. My hair is naturally very curly in the back (falls in ringlets, all on it's own) and wavy to straight in the front, so this is what I do:
I rotate shampoos and conditioners constantly, but mostly stay with Physique curl something, Tresemme volumnizing, and Pantene. When I get out of the shower I use a little anti frizz stuff (John Freida is the only stuff that works for me - the stuff with more shine makes my hair look greasy and frizzy). Then I use the green stuff from Bedhead (curlmaker?) and scrunch while blowdrying. Then I give it a couple spritzes of extra hold hair spray and scruch it a couple more times while that dries, and it stays like that for eight hours. To "refresh" it I just go in the dressing room, spray a little hairspray on my hands, turn my head upside down and rub my scalp.

My hair is naturally wavy but I use the "Saphire Iron" Flat iron. Great Flat iron. Puts a lot of stress on your hair but what dosn't. It works wonders. You can only buy it in professional beauty supply stores. I also use Frizz ease when my hair is wet befor I blow dry. I hate hair spray and so Frizz Ease is a great help. Most everyone will tell you not to use Flat Irons because it can be too much for most hair and they are probably right. But for myself I love straight smooth hair and this iron has been my God Sent. I also process my hair quite often because I Love being a blonde and my hair goes threw a lot. Hair extenstions have also been great for me. Long hair at last! Yea! It's great to be in this business because we as dancers can afford to go to the salon every 3 weeks and look into all sorts of beauty alternatives that most people can not afford or just don't wish to because they think it's too much of a fuss. But hey, if being a high maintenance girl is a illegal then lock me up. ;) Good luck!
Hugs,
Candice

L'Anza's Urban Elements Leave in Conditioner and Biosilk or that Aveda serum for shine.

Also, if you want to try your hair naturally curly, Aveda's Be Curly is an AWESOME styling product. When used with a little serum and a diffuser on your blowdryer, you might be very suprised with how beautiful you curls can be.
