Massages
Hi Ladies,
I'm thinking about getting a massage before returning back to work after Thanksgiving and I have no idea which one is best for a dancer that works pretty much 5-6 days a week.
I know that there are many different types, Shiatsu, Swedish and Hot Stone to name a few. Which do you recommend, how often and how much should I expect to pay for say 30 minutes.
Thanks Alot,
Tori
Happy Thanksgiving :)

Re: Massages
Hmm.. I recommend just calling up a male escort and asking for a massage. Hehe, those always sound like fun! :o ;)

Re: Massages
Tori-
I'm a lucky girl in that I have a boyfriend who is profesionally a massage therapist of 8 years. He and I actually both go at least once a week for massages (30 min foot / 30 min back ), and I only work 3 nights/ week. So I'm thinking that 2x's /week is a good amount for someone working 5-6nights per week. My feet & calves are priority, because they affect the back directly (and indirectly)-
I'm not sure where you live, but in Chinatown there are excellent foot /shiatsu massage places that are extremely affordable. ( we took a friend of our this past tuesday and she cried it was so good :-/ ) I wind up only paying $45 for 30min foot/ 30min back, and tip $20. Every place is different, though. but don't pay more than say $60 for 30 min....unless someone's referred you to the therapist and they're tried & true.
Deep tissue Swedish is great. The hot stone thing does nothing for me, personally - i like pressure to loosen the muscles.
Also, if you like, bring your own oils - arnica&lavender works wonders.
bisou,
J :)

Re: Massages
Being a bit of a roughened soul, I usually dig on a good Rolfing experience. Might hurt like hell initially, but by the end I'm ready to bliss out into a coma. Not for the feint of heart, though, as it *can* be rough!

Those foot massages are a great idea as well - you're feet need all the TLC in the world int his line of work.

Re: Massages
As a Licensed Massage Practitioner, I would advise that you start out with a regular Swedish Massage. Try it, you will be back. Shop around, just as you would for a good pair of shoes. Find a therapist you feel comfortable with. Then you can begin going on a regular basis, once a week, maybe even twice. Then I would get into Deep Tissue. You should also try some Thai Massage......sort of a lazy person's yoga, but wow! what a stretch!!!

Re: Massages
Me, a massage sounds great! had only one years ago, felt weak and tired. She said it was due to moving fluid that layed stagnant for along time. And i may have a few bowel movements that day, and to go home and drink lots of water, tak a nice nap.
So the next time i went to a pro health fitness center and had reflexology done. My feet felt tingly and fantastic! also i bought a book about reflexology and they say all pressure points in your feet go directly to a certain part of your body. Heart, lungs ect. Pamela
