I gained weight
I gained weight. I was told by a friend that I am "thick" in a good way...I think the reason that I gained weight is because I took a break from dancing, eat out alot, and dont exercise. Now that I want to go back, I think I am too overweight to even consider it. I realize that I do not have a clear perspective of what I actually look like. Im still a size 5, so I cant be that fat...Im short and I now weigh about 125. Weight is so hard to lose, and eating is a hobby of mine. I love food! If I went back to work I knpow the weight would come right off, because Id be working again...Its just that I'm afraid to go back like this. Should I exercise until the weight comes off and then go back to work? (but then I wont be making any money) How do you know what you really look like? When I look in the mirror, Im not sure if I am distorting my own image. I know I gained weight, but i cant tell if i still look good.... I wouldnt wanna get onstage and have the guys laugh at me and call me fat. One day my boyfriend says I look good and the next day he calls me a fatty. He loves me and sees me every day so his opinion is probably jaded. URGH!!!!!! :-/

Re: I gained weight
I gained the Freshman 20 my first year of college, and still haven't lost it (3 1/2 yrs. ago). (I am 5'5" and about 145 lbs.) However, I still make really good money dancing. The 6" heels and dark environment really help you look thinner. I don't like to exercise very much and I LOVE food, so even though I am trying to lose it isn't easy. At my old club a lot of the guys said I was "thick" and even though they meant it as a compliment I didnt see it that way. Just a few weeks ago, this one guy said I would be hot IF i weighed 120. Gee, thanks. But like I said, I can still make good money. In fact, I have seen girls a lot bigger than me dancing and they made money as well. This one girl in particular was VERY heavy, but she had a great personality and did surprisingly well. Sure, customers would make snide comments here and there, but there were just as many guys, if not more, who tipped her and got dances from her. I say, go back to dancing as soon as possible, why wait until you have lost the weight to make money...do both at the same time!! :)

Re: I gained weight
I say go for it. Take a deep breath, tell yourself you're beautiful, and present yourself with an air of confidence. Fake it if you have to! Then you'll tone up while making money - you won't even need to force yourself to exercise! ;)
As to your confusion, I completely understand it. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that perhaps you have lost muscle and gained some fat. That would account for still fitting into a size 5, but not feeling as good as you used to.
Screw anyone who laughs or calls you fatty. Every woman is beautiful in her own right, and deserves to be reminded of that every day.

Re: I gained weight
My weight has fluctuated alot since I started dancing. When I first started I was significantly underweight but I have also worked even when 30 pounds overweight. My money didn't change at all. The only downside is that it's more difficult to get hired at a club if you have extra weight. Making money is more about attitude than appearance.
There will always be guys who are unhappy with your body. When I was a size 1, I actually had a few guys tell me I was too fat! :-[ As a size 8 I had tons of guys tell me that it was nice to see a "real woman" for a change. Now I'm back to a size 5 and feel better about myself. But the money has remained constant no matter what dress size I wearing.
If you are truly uncomfortable with your weight there are two choices: (1) wait until you do feel comfortable, or (2) start dancing now and with all the compliments you receive you'll learn that you do look better than you think. :)

Re: I gained weight
Hmmm... you're 125 lbs, and wear a size 5??? And you're worried???
I do well at work, and I wouldn't mind trading for a body like that.
I would just go and audition, because a lot of dancers I know are not even that small. Unless you are 125 and 4'6", you should be fine.
And any guy who calls you fat is lying when he says he loves you. Kick him to the curb, and you'll have lost all the weight you probably need to lose.

Re: I gained weight
Controlling BF maybe? Please your self hun. And if he is looking at mens mags. Tell him the models are not really built like that, it's all airbrushing. Be yourself, you will be be a much happier person. We women can't go around trying to please men all the time with weight issues. If you like the way you look, stay that way, if you don't like the way you look change your eating habits, and exersice ! Pamela

Re: I gained weight
Heard a WONDERFUL interview with Elizabeth Hurley on the radio this morning. She said that when she was prggars with her son, she gained 53 pounds!!! That would put her at what.... about 175-ish???? WOW!!! Anyone who's seen her lately knows she's TERRIFIC looking. She said she lost it all with exercize and just careful but healthy eating. No fad diets, just good, solid food and no junk.
I was a chubby teen. Frankly, it was looking at men's magazines that got me realizing that I WANTED to lose weight. Stripping was something of a goal for me -- if I could get my bod to where I was willing to dance naked in front of strangers, then I would be OK with myself, ya know?
I got down to a size for (5'4", 117"). I got my boobs done and now I have to wear somewhat larger dresses (it varies) and have them altered a LOT. But, still, you can do it with healty eating and some vigorous daily exercize.
A size 5 and 125 pounds (how tall are you?) is NOT bad, sis. If you want to dance, you need to get toned up -- not so much for the customers, but more so that you can deal with the rigors of dancing. It is NOT a "sit on your ass" job!!! (In fact, if you DO sit on your ass, then no one gets to see it... and that's the whole idea!!!). Also, you need to focus on cardio fitness stuff (so that you can keep up with the rigor of dancing for 4 - 6 hours) and focus a LOT of attention on legs, ankles, and feet. (Seriously.) If you spend the time doing that, and watch what you eat (not diet....just be careful) then everything will come naturally.
As for your guy... he sounds a bit of a jerk. Not supportive at ALL and somewhat on the manipulative side. I'd tell his ass that if he doesn't start being nicer to you, he might need to find some other place to stick Mr. Lucky, if you know what I mean.

Re: I gained weight
I'm 4'11" and 98 lbs. During college my weight jumped up to 125 lb for a few months. I still made damn good money though.
Just dress to play up the boobs. They always look great if you gain a few, and smile, smile, smile. Attitude is everything.

Re:I gained weight
Hmmm, I have mixed feelings about this. I definitely don't think that at 125lbs you're too fat. I'm 5'5" and I've NEVER gotten below 125. Hell, I have a hard time keeping myself at 125. I was thinking about it though, and maybe it has more to do with a distribution of weight thing. I don't think I look fat because I carry most of my weight in my ass. Guys love my ass. It works out great. But if I carried most of it in my belly area, then maybe I would feel fat.

Re:I gained weight
Hey, I know how you feel.I just started dancing again, after losing muscle mass and gaining a little weight...and apparently Ive still got it!! Im sure you do too:-)

Re:I gained weight
I think it all depends on the shape of your body. Remember that muscel weighs more than fat. I am 5'6 and I am 135 lbs. I would like to lose 5 pounds but I used to think my optimal weight was 120 which is insane! I could never reach 120... 125 yes but 120 is toooo thin. I think if you start dancing again your body will be active and you will shed a few pounds anyway so just start dancing now. Im sure you will make just as much money.

Re:I gained weight
If you did it before you can do it again, remeber that every guy likes something different in a woman just because you aren't rail skinny like you used to be doesn't mean guys won't like you! I am a bit bigger than the average dancer 5"11 165 pounds and I always get guys saying it is sooo wonderful that I am not tiny like most dancers and they could see themselves wrapping their arms around me and not being afraid to break me. Besides club lights make you look a little more toned anyways! Good luck and just go for it!
