Healthcare solution
Hey guys!! I know that a major problem in this industry is getting health insurance. Very few clubs offer any kind of real benefit, but getting insurance on your own is costly too. I have something for you. I can get you discount services on dental, pharmacy, vision, and physician care for 14.95/mo. The discounts available range from 30-70% depending on provider network and service you are seeking. If you are interested, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will give you any information you need about the program. I used to be a dancer myself, so now I am making it my mission to provide needed services to other dancers. Thanks and take care!!

Re: Healthcare solution
I am really interested in finding out what other people are doing for health insurance; this is a topic that I think about all the time, and so far I haven't been able to come up with a good solution. Taking my vitamins, exercising, and eating right just isn't providing the peace of mind that I'm after.
If anyone would be willing to share what works for them and what they feel has been a rip-off, I would really greatly appreciate it. There are so many possible premiums, plans, deductibles, etc. and finding out what others have experienced or been happy/upset with would be most helpful.
Thanks for your post, pixiepower; I will be in touch to get more info.
I live in Oregon, so if anybody is from the Northwest and has a plan that they're happy with, I would love to know about it.
I am so jealous of you Canada gals; the U.S. healthcare situation is a racket and a headache to no end. >:(

Re: Healthcare solution
This is one of the few reasons I have a full-time job.
Not just health insurance, but disability insurance, gym menbership, 401(k), peace of mind of a steady income and just a general balance which keeps me relatively sane. I would make a lot more money if I stripped full-time, but I think the pros of having a job like that outweigh the benefits of extra money. And that would be even moreso if I had children (which I don't).
And from what I heard about canadian healthcare, it may by covered by the goverment, but it's better in the states. I've heard that a lot of Canadians end up coming down here for the specialists and use the doctors up there for routine care.
Another option is to get married to a guy who has it through his work!

Re: Healthcare solution
I don't mean to be negative and maybe pixiepower will enlighten all of us but I almost purchased a similar "plan" through someone at work. In theory, it sounds good and there are probably people out there who would benefit but it really seems that you'd be better off just paying that 100-200 per month for a ppo or hmo. She says that you save 30%-70% but just make sure you understand what their cap is. In other words, if you're having some $10,000 procedure done and they pay 50% for that procedure but they won't pay more than $2,500...you are still responsible for $7,500. Again, I don't have any experience with this sort of plan...I'm only passing along what I've overheard in the dressing room.
On the brighter side, you supposedly get these discounts for cosmetic surgery! That alone might be worth checking into!

Re: Healthcare solution
The National Association for the Self Employed has inexpensive health insurance. nase.com or nase.org or something.

Re: Healthcare solution
In response to Superstripper---I don't consider you as being negative at all. Any time you invest in something it is important to have all the necessary informationt in order to make an informed decision. My plan has no cap, however, let it be said that the plan also only covers physician and lab fees and the like right now. Unfortunately, hospitalization is capped right now and not accepting new members. To be as candid as possible, the absolute best deals with this plan are in dental (including cosmetic) and in the pharmacy benefits. The physicians benefits are decent, but still relatively new, so there aren't as many specialists. But if you live in a relatively large city, there really is no diference. The physician benefits are still growing in smaller towns and rural communities. Oh, and to ease other concerns about the low cost (ie: "is this a scam?" The reason I charge so little is simple. I make a good deal of commisions off people who are in other professions. I don't make commisions off of people in the adult industry, as I feel a sort of affinity for ladies in the business. So I offer it at my cost.....it can be hard for a dancer, or escort, or adult model to get a break. So I try to do what I can. If anyone needs to know anything else, my door is always open! Thanks.

Re: Healthcare solution
my question is also how long do you have to be a member before coverage starts...some plans I've looked into lately it takes a year or two before the coverage is even worth while.

Re: Healthcare solution
On average, it takes 15-20 days to get your cards, and once you have your cards you are covered.

Re: Healthcare solution
Pixiepower, I'm interested in finding out more about this plan. Also, what does it say about cosmetic surgery? (I'm thinkin' boobs) ;)

Re: Healthcare solution
No health care providers cover elective surgery. That's all you!
-
Re: Healthcare solution
There is absolutely not one plan out there that covers cosmetic surgery,h.m.o.are the only plans and it has to be for health reasons, like reduction or stomache stappeling for the extremley overweight,I think the best plan is an h.m.o for self employed individuals you will pay around 200 a month but everything is covered, you only pay a co pay for services and if you get cancer or something you are covered, there are no out of pockets besides the premium, and copays, and I believe the coverage is 1 million.

Re: Healthcare solution
The NASE plan offers a *discount* on elective cosmetic surgery through participating providers who have agreed to honor the discounts the plan offers. World of difference from being covered by insurance but still worth looking into if, say, the surgeon you are already considering is one of the providers. I seem to recall that adult orthodontics, teeth whitening and veneers, sight correction surgery and other strange elective things had discounts available as well. It seemed like the AAA of professional services discounts:) I'm really not saying that in a bad way, heh. Your basically just joining a club with enough numbers/members to leverage the discounts (again, the AAA analogy).
I personally would still rather have an HMO or PPO for my health care but, well, some of these discounts do have their uses. In the instance of NASE, I seem to remember that there were extended plans wherein legal, accounting and other services (travel agencies I think?) were available with discounted providers. I'm going to have to look it up again.

Re: Healthcare solution
I researched nase and alot of people had bad things to say about it.Type in insurance forums nase.It appears to be a scam company with multiple names with alot of pissed off x customers. They talked about other companies but i am skeptical. If anyone knows of a good one first-hand please post it here.

Re: Healthcare solution
I think that the reason so many people have problems with NASE and similar discount programs is that they are in fact *discount* programs as opposed to actual insurance. It can be very misleading. Especially because they phrase things as if they were traditional insurance. That is why I'm still in the research phase with these sort of things (professional services AND insurance). I noticed that when I was given the booklets, it was a lot of sub companies under the umbrella of NASE which would explain why it seems like multiple names. The rep who contacted me was very forthright with NASE not being true *insurance*. When I looked online it seemed like a lot of people weren't that lucky.
I guess it is just one of those cases of, if you know what you are getting and it is something that works for you it can be good.
I'll be getting a consult with a broker for straight forward PPO/HMOs targeted at the independent contractor (referred by a hair stylist friend) soon. Hopefully I'll find something available nationally that I can pass on to you girls since it sounds like a good lead.
