Tax ppl in NY?
Hey all-
My tax guy for the past 5 years has moved, and I'm in search of a new one! For all you girls in NYC - if you know of a good one, let me know.
My previous accountant was great in that he pushed things to the limit and I always got the most money legally possible , back from the government.
Also, I need an opinion from everyone - have you found it better to have your taxes prepped by a individual accountant, or to go through a company like H&R Block? Last year, I did my taxes myself (online), and I was as conservative as possible, and I probably could have gotten a lot more money back from the govt. :-/

Re: Tax ppl in NY?
Jacqueline, H&R Block will be totally worthless in regard to dancers' tax returns because they will not be "up" on the specific letter rulings which affect dancers' tax deductions. Also, after the big Enron accounting scandal, big tax services like H&R Block also now have national corporate standards set as to how "liberal" they're allowed to be in allowing deductions and showing cash income.
Actually, a couple of years ago I quit using accountants and bought a copy of TurboTax for business, as well as the New York State tax disc. It actually takes me less time to do my own taxes using this program than to explain every detail to an accountant and then fight with him over whether particular deductions are actually allowed or not.

Re: Tax ppl in NY?
hmm, Melonie - maybe I should hire YOU to do my taxes! ::) haha.
I admit, I broke down and went to H&R block and got 2k back, so I'm not complaining...however next year, I'll have a lot more deductions, since I'll be saving receipts for everything!
Thanks again,
Jax
