Sometimes the club needs a pick-me-up from the slower, more sensual stuff. Any suggestions on songs that would blow the roof off and get the crowd a bit livelier?

I always love Joan Jett when I'm feeling rambunctious. Or Outkast, "BOB" especially.
And some good, cheesy Van Halen never fails to pick up the pace.
Right now one of my favorite songs to dance to is Ted Leo, "The Ballad of a Sin Eater" which is a bit esoteric for a titty bar, but a really energetic song (ah, getting naked to anti-imperialist lyrics, what fun).
I find that any current pop-dance hit works. If it's got a jammin beat and it's popular, you can groove to it and the crowd will be into it.
i danced to pink floyd "money" last week and the dj even tried to talk me out of it... but everyone in the club started yelling "pink floyd"... and "dude that's awesome"... i was surprised myself...
for my 2nd song i danced to "la woman" by the doors... and my 3rd i danced to "you shook me all night long" by ac/dc... i made the most tips that set than all night!!!

Magic Carpet Ride remix-it's actually on a video game(just don't know which)
Betty Blowtorch-Shut up and F*ck
Lamb of God-Ruin
Drowning Pool- Bodies
Yin-Yang Twins- Get Low (but you actually have to possess the ability to bounce your ass; they love this)
Anything by AC/DC (preferred favorites are TNT and Thunderstruck)
Gauge your crowd carefully. If the crowd is composed of mostly older men, try something from Lynyrd Skynyrd or Styx. Thirty-somethings flip over songs from their high school days, like Twisted Sister or Beastie Boys. A few black customers under 35 years of age can get the crowd pumped when you play something appropriately hip-hop. Younger patrons (early to late twenties) can be counted upon to go nuts for just the right contemporary rock song (Rob Zombie) if it's been a good stretch of slow songs or techno. On those nights (all slow or techno) any classic rock song can ensure good tips, especially when accompanied by a well-performed and athletic stage dance.
Regardless of the song selection, a themed dance is almost always a good money-maker. Try a red cape and skirt coupled with "Little Red Riding Hood". Furry ears and stockings with "Three Little Pigs" (by Green Jelly) to signify that you are the Big Bad Wolf; guys love this. Black wig and a Goth costume when playing Type O Negative's "Black Number One" can do well for the right crowd. Play around with it a bit; themed dances are half the fun of a stage performance.
Since we are near a naval base, Bombs over Baghdad is a definite no no. The service guys are sensitive about songs titles and words pertaining to war and the like. New linkin park, White Stripes - especially 7 rhythm nation, the Drugs songs, and Red Hot CHilli Peppers. Also, local music get ems excited like saliva and 3-6 mafia, tela and what not. Just something upbeat and 2 songs that people can't sit down to for some reason me included is Hood Rich by Big Tymers and Break Ya Neck by Busta Rhymes.
Since as long as I can remember, there are 2 songs I would play to get the crowd going. If the majority are middle aged white men, Sweet Home Alabama, and if they are more younger mix crowd, Nothing but a g thing, has always worked for me. On Dre's song, I just speed up the BPM a little to speed the song up. Just my 2 cents.
