Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
"Fantasy" has to be one of the greatest rock hits of all time--I play it whenever and wherever possible, and it automatically lends itself to all kinds of talking up of the dancer in question, particularly if she is, as is perhaps the case, a fantasy come to living, breathing, glorious life...
I would have to agree with your estimation of "Cherry Pie"---just a bit too cliche, and not all that catchy of a song, lame lyrics aside, but I have played it many a time for many a dancer, because hey, it ain't me up there dancing.
Great White's "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" is also a great 80's number, especially if the lady in question happens to be that penultimate fantasy come to life, The Girl Next Door Gettin' Naughty.
And what a beautiful girl she is...
I think we are on some kind of psychic connection here, as I was just talking about that song, and other 80's rock, to a dancer friend of mine last night. Amazing how these things can work sometimes...
Firehouse has some good tracks, I am especially fond of "Rock on the Radio".
Def Leppard, of course, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" I am a bit tired of, having played it on a near nightly basis for Destiny, and Faith after her--but will still play on a regular basis for the right woman. "Rock of Ages" is my favorite by them.
And of course, Van Halen...
In spite of the grotesque stage persona of David Lee Roth (who actually is tame compared to Kid Rock, whom I also detest for his personality but nonetheless play as frequently as possible), better 80's rock for strippers is hard to come by.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
I came of age in the 80's and grew up on stuff like Slaughter, Dokken, Motley Crue and Twisted Sister. (Don't even get me started on Winger, for crying out loud WHAT was I thinking?). Even got a closet full of old black concert T-shirts rotting away somewhere around here.
Yeah, a lot of that music was crap (some of it basically N-Sync lyrics with guitar riffs played over them), but it was MY generations' crap, and I wish more of it were played at the clubs I go to. Cliched or not, a lot of it is perfect for watching a gal take her clothes off.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
I use an old old Canadian musician's song (I think it's 80's?) that is a lead up or presentation song if you will to my theme show --because of the costume...a deejay played it for me and I thought hell that could work, burn it on baby!
It was Lee Aaron's METAL QUEEN, has the sounds of chains draggin in it and its heavy and strong female rock sound to it...that and I am all in metalic gear Chrome viking helmet & to the floor liquid silver cape and my corset is actually made of metal with bullets for nipples and so is the whole front of the G-string or T back what ever ya wanna call it!
Its cool to watch guys in the crowd shock for a second then you see the recognition of the tune come over their faces then they all start head banging - its cool fun!!!
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
I have a favorite saying; " some people grew up in the 60's, 70's, 80's ...... and some people stayed there" . I personally winced through the whole hairband, disco error ( oop's I ment era ) hoping for something better down the road, thank gawd it's behind us now. Although there are a few memorable and note worthy addition's to musical history. We do play alot of stuff from that era basically because some people won't let it die :-/ . Yet it is hard to find stuff to dance to but for people who grew up during that time, old song's bring back memory's of there younger more carefree day's and enhance the general mood of a crowd.
Men playing music during that time where much to pretty, all I can think of is
fat hair, makeup and "yuck" way too much spandex ::)
Don't take any of that too seriously, it's a fun opinion and all mine 8)
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Djoser - I have always though that Def Leppard's "Pyromania" has a few songs that still are alive and kicking today (and it holds a soft spot in my heart, for it was the very first album I ever bought). The songs from further albums by them are more popular (RE: "Sugar"), but that in itself is a hazard due to them being overplayed. "Photograph" and "Foolin" surely will work with the right gal. As for DLR - "Yankee Rose" still lives today as being a great SC song (it didn’t hurt that Diamond Dave had Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan in the band).
Leigh - My God, I hadn’t though about Lee Aaron in years.. and I used to drool over her whilst a pip of a lad in High School. She DOES hold up well over the years. I seem to recall that she posed topless in a magazine in the 80s.
Dr. Fish - I too briefly fell into the Winger trap. Fortunately Anthrax and Slayer rescued me. Now Dokken, that’s a band that probably still sounds great in a SC, but possibly no where else. Hmm.... I'll have to see if "Its Not Love" is part of the repertoire of the DJ in one of my fav haunts.
Crazybob - Its funny, I made fun of a lot of the Hair Band stuff when I was growing up in the 80s, because I quickly was into the harder stuff (and punk too). Yet I never allowed myself to be pigeon holed, and I took a lot of flak if a non-Punk song was around that I liked. I never denied myself the pleasure of a song merely because it was a hair band. Case in point - I was a big Extreme fan. I saw them one night with a certain crowd, then I saw Slayer the next night with another crowd. I didn't hide the fact that I saw either one of them from the particular crowd I was with. Too Much Tight Spandex often meant crappy music, but not always.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
There's a couple newer girls at work who loves dancing to GnR and Aerosmith songs. It's really funny to me because these girls are 20 and 21 years old, dancing to stuff I listened to in high school when they would have been in elementary! LOL! They dance to Aerosmith's 'Angel' alot, and this one girl always uses GnR's 'Paradise City' or 'Welcome to the Jungle'. LOL
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
While there were a lot of cheesy '80s Metal Music I've heard in SCs during the past 20 years, I'd love to hear Lita Ford's "Kiss Me Deadly", Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend", and the Vapors "Turning Japanese" again. DJ Sammy & Yanou's remake of Bryan Adam's "Heaven" is not metal, but a pretty cheesy song to listen to.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
All right, fine. I admit it. I love 80's hard rock. There, I said it y'hear!? G'nR, VanHalen, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Poison, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake...you name it, it's great, I love it! ;D
...and any dancer on stage to Paradise City gets a big 'ol stage tip from me, if not a lap dance!

My regular club plays "Paradise City" to annouce the 2 for 1s, its burned into my brain- for some reason, I have an amazing Pavlovian reaction to hearing that song ;)
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Haha! Lee Aaron, Metal Queen ;D
Leigh, did you know that she was doing the jazz singer thing these days? One night I stopped in the pub next door with a friend for a drink, and there she was, singing jazz and old show tunes to the 20 odd people in this little bar. Three piece gig - her, a keyboardist, and a drummer. She made a comment to the "crowd" about me being a hottie...LOL! She looked fantastic, still as sexy as ever, but much more classy than back in the 80's.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
OMG Ara!!! You're kidding? Kind of like the Holly Cole Trio kinda thing? She probably did it up quite well!!
I would have loved to walk in on that, but I love that sorta thing.
And Ara? YOU *ARE* A HOTTIE!! :)
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
I though Lita Ford and Ozzy did a song that was pretty darn good in it's day.
Can't remember the name, but it was ok. The video was nice too.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
"If I close my eye's forever" , good tune although I don't consider band's like Ozzy , Aerosmith, Rolling Stone's and such as band's of the 80's , rather band's that survived the 80's and therefore showing an impeccable ability to evolve with the industry.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Talk about a way late posting, but I just joined the board and have been catching up on past posts.
I too went through a hair-band phase in the 80's.
You guys got your BIC lighters ready?....
and of course that band we all have to hide our BIC lighters from...
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go rat my hair and put on my leather jacket. Now where did I put my boom-box?...are the batteries still good?....Let's Roll!...oops, what I meant to say was, "Let's Book"

Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Ok this is 70's i think, but i danced to it once and it flew over fine on stage! The crowd (most) knew it, and i would around the pole, did stage crawling and anything else i could to make it seem like i wanted sex....Lol.
Song: "One night in Bangkok", kinda cheesy, but it worked at the time. My hair was dark then too, so i tried to fit the image.

Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
I was thinking you know the SARS fest we had here in Toronto with the Stones headlining? Now that was some flashback - we called it the mulletfest when we left that night LMAO!

I've been guilty of it.
And Pantera.....I think the song was called "Low"
Also Quiet Riot.
C'mon feel the noise :D
See Beavis and Butthead for reference.
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Cheesy 80s Metal was the best, I played some of my best air guitars to these bands. Big Runaways fan from the 70s and when one our Canadian house girls started using Lita Ford i turned up the monitor speakers in my DJ box as loud as they could go.
When she started using tracks from the Rock Star soundtrack I told her she had to use Stand Up Ad Shout by Steel Dragon, which was ok cos she was going to use it anyway.
And then there was the dancer who used Headpins, god I remember playing the vinyl version of that.
Some background on me from this is that I spend 15 yrs on community radio hosting a heavy metal programme and I started back in 82'

Sorry 'bout my response Prester John, once again it appears I didn't follow directions. :-[ You were referring to heavy metal music, what the fuck was I thinking when listing Loverboy, Bob Seger... as favorite metal songs ??? Time for another defragment, piece together what little brain cells I've got left. :P

I will forgive you, and since you are penitant, the only recompence I ask of you is refrain from playing any Loverboy without first issuing a Government Warning, as they tend to be unhealthy for unborn children.

Hey! I like Loverboy! [tounge] I don't deny listening to something I like just because it's now considered dorky. I'm not scared, see I'll even prove it...
Hi, my name is Naomi_Tx, and I still listen to my Color Me Bad CD!

Oh I don't know, Jethro Tull DID beat out Metallica for a heavy metal Grammy once.
And who wouldn't want to hear a metal cover of "Betty's Lou's Gettin' Out Tonight?" Seriously! ;D
Re: Cheesy '80s Metal Music
Zepplin had alot of good sex/dance beats. It's just everyone of their songs had to be cut.
