DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
As a DJ, even if I'm crazy about a song, I hesitate to play it more than once (twice if it is slammin') a night.
What do you DJ's do when you just played a song and within 1/2 hour or an hour somebody comes up and asks for it again?
I think that we all agree that if a dancer asks for it she'll probably be declined because we want her to broaden her dancing skills and pick something else that she either hasn't danced to before, or something that she has that hasn't been played yet that evening.
Also, so the guests don't hear the same song so many times in one night that they think the DJ only has 1 K-Tel compilation and has run out of songs.
Back to my question, most DJ's are hesitant to play the song again (if they are truly into their trade), but....what if there is money involved?,...or, What if you've seen the patrons come and go and nobody who heard the song played the first time is still in the club? Does that change things?

Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
I dj in a portland club and this happens to me every night somtimes twice.
so i tell the dancer that i already played it and to pick something else out. but be nice about it (remember she is the one giving you money).
and the do the same thing with customers or tell them to hang on for like three or four songs. or if the custie is going to tip more the a buck ($5 min)then i will do it. there lots of varibles ot this question just use some commen sence and have fun.;D
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
i work at a club in denver, and have had this happen a lot, i would say it totally depends on the situation, if i played it way early in the shift, thats fine and i'll probably play it again if its requested and theres at least 20 bucks in it. depends on the song too i guess.
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
just signed up but i already feel at home.
i dj out of san antonio texas.
Usually if the song was played already within the hour i tell em to pick another one unless money is involved. you ever get those drunk/wired customers that want to hear the same song over and over in a row. but if they willing to pay eh what can i say im working to make money. this one dude payed me 60 to play im so hood 3 times.
Heres one, do u ever have the girls that go up to the same 2 or 3 song sets every time and i mean every time they go on stage, for months. that shit drives me crazy, cuz it gets so played out easy.

Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
i like to dance to certain songs, and if it's 5 hours later, i tip well and i can dance to that set again! that's they way i see it.
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
i see where ur coming from on that front. but im talking about when u may only have 5 or 6 girls so everyhour the same shit. kills me
by the way jus wondering what songs do you like during your set
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
I had a customer I had been sitting with and making alot of money off of walk out one night because "Soldier Boy" or "Superman" (whatever the FUCK the name of that godforsaken song is) was played three times in one hour. He apologized to me and said that a part of what makes him stay and spend money at a club is good variety in music. I know it sounds crazy, but hey, they want what they want.
I have also had alot of other good (spending) customers complain about repetitive songs.... at my club it's pretty bad.
I know you guys need to make your money, and a crisp 20$ bill (or three) is hard for anyone to resist, but......From a dancer's point of view, I would say use your own judgement, read the crowd (like say your playing Lil Jon over and over for one person and the crowd is mostly older men)
If you think it's getting ridiculous, it probaly is. It's great you are getting tipped, but if you are pissing off customers then that might mean we aren't making as much, which in turn can sometimes mean less tipout for you from us. I always tip the DJ, but I'll be honest, I base it on how much I make.
Then again this is just me, this is just my club. Like I said, just use your best judgement........
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
I don't like dancing to stuff that's JUST been played. And if there's been a lot of .. say, Hinder or Nickelback.. played in a night, I'll go for something completely different instead. I don't even like to dance to the same artists as other girls the same night over and over, even if there are songs that haven't been played.
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
at the club i dj at its mostly rap and RnB oriented which is what we our known for. But dont get me wrong i carry everything and if i dont got it, i pay $60 a month for a wireless usb modem. so i will have it in 5 mins or less (gives me an edge over most DJ's) But down her at this particular club i dont get paid per girl like other clubs i get an hourly and im not even allowed to ask for tips. Now there are some dj's that get 5 a girl everytime they work but they have been there for over 5 years. so they were getting tip out before the owner changed the pay for DJ's to hourly which really sucks. These dudes work like 1 friday and make what i make for working all week :(
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
The club I'm at has a "same artist" never in less than 30 mins policy.... but if the crowd has changed I have no problem playing a song again....I do 12 hour shifts so alot of room for new crowds.... but as a rule I try to NEVER play a song again unless the crowd has completely changed!
UNLESS there is substancial cash involved.... I am money motivated...but will not do anything to hurt my girls or the clubs image in regards to music.... don't want the word out that I play music like the radio!
but even if I'm gonna repeat a song for a custie paying well I will give the standard DJ response I'll get it on as soon as I can and I will wait til an appropriate amount of time as elapsed!
but if I take the cash, you can bet the song will be played
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
I've always been known to let the customers know I accept bribes. If I just played a song and "John" wants to hear it again, throw me a 20, and I'll get it on with in the next half hour. "John" also get told that he needs to tip the girls on stage EXTREMELY well or the song changes, since it was already played.
I've had a few customers bitch about my policy thru the years, but it keeps the crap songs from being replayed too often.
I also like to let the customer know I'm a stripclub dj not a radio dj, I DON'T do requests, so if you wanna hear "your favorite song in the world" it's gonna cost ya
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
i'm not a dj, but i think there are times it's okay and times it's not. if a song is getting a lot of radio play, it can be pretty annoying to hear it too often in a club.
if a song isn't even a little sexy (um, like that soulja boy crap, for example, or anything by pearl jam), i don't see why it really needs to be played in a strip club at all, unless it involves a nice financial thankyou.
if a song isn't something you hear much, especially if it's never been particularly mainstream, but it's sexy and gets guys feeling spendy, as long as a decent chunk of time has passed between plays, it can be played every hour on the hour for all i care.
any guy who's spending money won't be bothered by that kind of song if he hears it again, cos he barely heard it the first time. it's the song he probably didn't care for in the first place that'll annoy him. i'm guessing the guy calendar girl was talking about, who wanted a good variety of music was more concerned with the funness and sexiness of the music than the variety...these days "variety" probably means "something besides shitty mainstream rap or depressing mainstream rock".
we need more fun, sexy music in our stripclubs!!!!
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
I have turned down pretty big tips so I wouldn't be playing the same song in a half hour, no way. I won't subject the crowd to that, just because someone gave me 20$ A hundred, maybe, but even then I'd be telling the guy to pick another song by the same artist if possible, and also he would have to be taking really good care of the dancers.
If a guy is taking really good care of the dancers, I will tell the crowd that's why I am playing the song he likes, so they will inspired to imitate him. But I've never played the same song in a half hour, so I haven't tried that approach in that case.

Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
^^^ ditto. I wait 3 hours if a dancer or a small to non tipping custie wants a song again, or if the song is a banger the regs want to hear. If someone were to give me a $5 I usually bump it up a little bit, $20 will get it up soon, in an hour or so, and $50 plus on a slow night will get it back up pretty much immediately and I'll act obliviously like I'm using the head phones or go to the bathroom. I think you have to take advantage of those big money opportunities when they're there. By the way, If I'm managing and my DJ does something like that I eat his lunch.
Re: DJ's - Song just played but rqstd. again?
Where I currently dance, each girl has her own 3-song set that she dances to each time she is on stage but usually each girl is on stage every 4 hours or so, so it's not a big deal if songs are repeated.
