Get Em Up--Paul Oakenfold and Ice Cube
In spite of my seemingly well-founded complaint that there ain't no 'rhythm' in Rhythm and Blues anymore, this new collaboration between the techno wizard Paul Oakenfold, and the well-established rapper Ice Cube (who has been unfortunately somewhat obscured, by newer and much less worthy stars), might just have proved me wrong. It can be found on The CD called "Bunnka', recently released by Oakenfold
There's no tiresome and pointless bragging about sexual conquest and physical invincibility here, just a downright irresistable beat, and some outstanding singing by a guy who has the in-your-face audacity that rap is so well known for, but won't grate on your nerves with the arrogance that so many other rappers cannot seem to avoid.
And rhythm it's got! If more new rap sounded this good, I'd put 102.JAMZ back on my car radio memory, and keep it there. The old white guys with lots of money (Do I sound racist? I've heard endlessly how I'm supposed to take care of them, maybe that's why) will find it much less offensive than JaRule, or any number of other R & B bands we hear entirely too much of, especially if Rita is onstage dancing to it.
I can thank this extraordinarily alluring dancer, for doing me the favor of letting me know that I already had this superb track. Rita is a force to be reckoned with, and her sensual aura, not to mention a magical way with words, will no doubt continue to bring her the success she deserves.
PS Sorry, all you JaRule fans--to me he just sounds monumentally stupid. To each their own.
Re: Get Em Up--Paul Oakenfold and Ice Cube
I have heard this song and everything else Paul Oakenfold has done in his life and all in one semester b/c my suitemate is a techno head. BUT, this song is pretty unique and really nice to groove to. I also noticed the Blade II soundtrack had a lot of techno/rap compilations and even some jungle on it. Ice Cube also has a comp on here with techno. Refreshingly different.

Well damn, I thought I had struck out with this one--"0" replies...
Not anymore.
And thanks for the tip!
I already have the Blade I soundtrack, now I'll get the second one for sure, and if it's as good as I suspect, Rita will love it too. That girl deserves nothing but the best, which from the sounds of it, you are also inclined to appreciate.
Most of Oakenfold's better known stuff loses me, I'm not fond of that many BPM, except some of those Aphrodite tracks, perhaps. But Bunnka is a different story. He has also put out a CD for DJ's to mix with, which has some of the funkiest jams you can imagine--I forget the name as I haven't picked it up yet, but I will be sure to post it here.
Some of my favorite techno songs have a strong hip-hop or R & B influence, and I'll be posting a number of them shortly, but right now I'm supposed to be finishing some drawings...
