Kitty
I have always loved all-girl bands.
Rock is great, but has to be one of the most sexist forms of expression in history.
Here's a quote from the intro to a song by one of my favorite bands (even if they are a bunch of commies), Consolidated . This woman, in a tone dripping with sarcasm, but funny as hell, goes...
"Rock music...is about putting women in passive positions...
On MTV (hyped up cheesy salesman voice)
Having all these guys, these four guys in groups... hundreds, thousands of them...
On MTV, On MTV
And then getting the chick, you know, in the passive position, to either fuck her...
OnMTV, On MTV, On MTV..."
Then they cut right into a very heavy song I would have gotten fired for playing at more than one club.
Rock has its shortcomings, not the least of which that women are generally relegated to the role of being fawning, servile groupies. They ideally will do anything it takes to win the privilege of being treated like dirt, and loving it, by guys who are often no more than clones, devoid of any real talent or imagination.
Even the groups who may really possess some genuine originality are encouraged to use women merely to pump up their colossal egos, and we are bombarded with videos which glorify this to no end.
Well, many forms of artistic expression are sexist, that's just the way it is, but it is nice to see a group of women come along, now and then, with the spirit and determination to take a stand and prove they can do as well as the guys, and I believe we have ourselves a new one.
Kitty.
I had heard about them a while back, and have been meaning to check them out, but only tonight, when I was searching for Miss Kitten and the Hacker's "Stripper", did I remember, so I did a search and came up with this outrageous song called "You Can't Eat a Dick".
It's pretty heavy stuff, with some controversial lyrics, but these girls can tear it up as well as any four guys out there. They have a raw, driving sound that would be great to dance to, if your club has the balls to play it (pun intended). I haven't heard anything else yet, but this was so good I'm posting anyway.
Anyone else heard their other stuff?

Re: Kittie
Hailing from London, Ontario (Canada), only an hour and a half drive from here,Kittie has proven that the girls can play it just as heavy and raunchy as the big boys can.
Touring with the likes of Pantera, Slipknot, and Fear Factory.
There was a good article/interview with the band in the December 2001 issue of Guitar World, following the release of their second album 'Oracle'.
Their debut album being 'Spit', and two (official) EP's that I know of: 'Safe', and 'Paperdoll'.
"What I always wanted" had somewhat regular rotation on most hard-rock radio stations up here.

Re: Kitty
Why am I not surprised that Tre has the lowdown on Kittie (and the correct spelling)?
Thanks, now I will go get those CDs!
That name--however it is spelled, you gotta love it-- grabbed me right away, and I instinctively knew they would be a hot band. Nice to know my instinct didn't lie...

Re: Kitty
Be sure to check out "Brakish", another awesome Kittie track. Only works on a very heavy crowd but it works very well when it does.

Re: Kitty
Interesting enough, most of the songs on the band's debut album 'Spit', released in 2000, were written by a 14 year old.

Re: Kitty
Yea when they first came out i was watching them on video. They just are so damn young. And don't seem to be doing much now.
Yea Tre i read that! Hmmm.

Re: Kitty
They've pretty much broken up now...I doubt they'll come out with many more albums. Only two of the original members are still with the band. I really liked them a few years ago...I wouldn't go and see them live again, but I still listen to their stuff now and then and have both the albums. "Brackish" is probably my favorite Kittie song, although I'm also a fan of "Do You Think I'm a Whore?"
Incidentally, one of the chicks that left the band is now in Pigface.
