Accoustic Songs
Has anyone every heard an all-acoustic song that would be great to hear in a club, or has anyone every danced to one? (DJ - ever play one?)
The impetus for this question is from Matthew Sweet. I was listening to his "Girlfriend" cd, and it has this killer acoustic song called "Thought I Knew You". It struck me as being a great song to hear at a SC, but its non-electric nature would deter anyone from playing it.
I have always thought the right acoustic song for the right dancer would work well.

Re: Accoustic Songs
I use to use Eric Claptons unplugged....... I love blues though, so that's why I loved that CD......
Prester_John, this off what oyur asking, but you might know who this is....
I use to use Leon Redbone all the time....... Some guys got the biggest kick out of it !!!

Re: Accoustic Songs
Leon Redbone is great.. especially his "Red to Blue" cd. That really would be interesting to hear some of his stuff at a SC.
Clapton's acoustic "Layla" seems perfect for SC's. I think wistful, playful blues is just as cool for a SC as the metal/punk stuff I like as well.
Hell, its all damn cool. ;D

Damn PJ.
I did a table dance to laylas' acoustic version. Clapton. They had to cut it in a hurray!!! Long.... I do like The older version better though, Derrek and the Dominos (did i spell that right)? More of a *twang* with the quitar i think.

Re: Accoustic Songs
yeah Pamela.. thats the downfall of that song.. its long.
The Derek and the Dominos version gets its twang from the sublime slide geeeetar by the late great Duane Allman, who I incidentally share a birthday with. I've never heard the original version in a SC - which is too bad.

Re: Accoustic Songs
There is a version of "Sweet Jane", from the movie "Prelude to a Kiss", which is by the Cowboy Junkies. I have never seen the movie, but by God, that is one of the sexiest songs I have ever heard. I did actually get to play it at one club, with success, just before the club instituted it's "NO slow songs, EVER" (meaning not even Enigma, etc.) rule. It is slow, but extremely hot.
I doubt very much if this would work in a stripclub but some of the finest acoustic music I have heard is the soundtrack to the movie "Dead Man", starring Johnny Depp, which is also a fantastic movie, a Western on acid, with mythological/mystical journey influence, and is funny as hell to boot, in an very offbeat manner.
I have never been a Neil Young fan, I just can't get into his voice, sorry, with certain exceptions (and it is mostly too old & slow for stripclub use); but this is all acoustic guitar, no singing, and it is hauntingly beautiful.
The right dancer could pull it off, but it would require a very special audience, and very tolerant management--I like to push the rules but I never tried THIS one, haha--though I might have if I actually had it (haven't found it yet-but I have the video). It might be good to play at the very beginning of the night, like before you open the doors, and the girls are still getting ready...
I heard something about Neil Young, back in the days of dinosaur rock (or even before) having been not only roommates with, but in a BAND with Rick James, of all people, in Montreal--anyone know anything about that bit of ancient history??!! Trying to imagine "Superfreak" meets "Southern Man", LOL. Southern Man, the 12" mix?---OK, it's time to go...
