I was just wondering if most clubs want you to use a stage name or can you use your own name? I really can't think of a name and I'm happy with my own name.

Don't EVER use your real name when dancing. Period. For one thing, while 99.9% of the customers are GREAT, you WILL meet that 0.1% who will scare the s--t out of you. The first time you meet ONE of those guys, you'll be glad he doesn't know your name, EVEN just your first name.
Second, regardless of how much you enjoy dancing (and let's face it, most of us love dancing), it's great to be able to leave it behind -- to take off the g-string and the makeup and the heels and go home to a different world. (It's PARTICULARLY acute if you go to college, like so many of us do. The chances of running into a customer on campus are VERY good. You really do want to be able to put on a different persona when you're not on stage. Using a "stage" name is an important part of that. Believe me, you will quickly understand.
Sonia, Please don't use your real name. Me and I'm sure many dancers on this board have had our experiences with over zealous customers who become attached too easily. Having these types of customers know your real name can be disasterous. The more you can seperate yourself from your at work persona from your real life persona the better.

Sonia, if you do want to use your real name, perhaps try using your middle name (if you have one). I have a friend who works and she couldn't think of a decent name she liked. So she started using her middle name. That way you can still have your name if you want to, but you're not giving the psychos an easy way to find you.
Thank you all for your responce.I haven't started dancing yet I'm waiting for my BA to get done. but I will use a different name . I got chills after reading your posts.
What about Tonya? That sounds sort of like Sonia...

These ladies are probably right, it's safer to use a stage name. I used my real first name with a last name change for 14 years though and haven't had problems.
Sooo..... "torchthewitch" is your REAL first name????
LOL... I'm sorry, I HAD to say that!!!!
I thought I'd answer you from another perspective. Although my lady and I are looking to open a club, my regular job is that of radio dj. I've been in radio for 29 years, and you rarely if ever use your own name for the same reason. The people who listen to you on the radio, want to find you in real life. Give yourself a break. Use your own name for those who really matter in your life. Find another for all the rest!

As the others have said; I'd also strongly recommend NOT using your real name.
For the same reason why many (most) people use a screen name on these boards.
Think about it.
I won't go into the events happening elsewhere.....;)
(*cough* EDP *ahem*)
A few girls at my club dance under their real names but most do not. The fringe benefit of this is that if you do use your real name, most guys will assume it's a stage name anyway! :) I always tell guys my stage name is my real name if they ask. That way they won't go looking to try to get my real name. But I wouldn't dance under my real name, for all the reasons people have listed.
Several dancers I've talked with about the name issue have both a stage name and a 'fake' real name for pestering customers. The trouble is responding to both, but you can make them similar, customers will better believe it then too ;)
Stage Name: Elizabeth
"Real"Name: Bethany
I use my real name...and no one ever believes it's my real name anyway!
Despite a few weirdos here and there, I've found that the majority of people I meet in strip clubs are "normal" people. What is "normal" these days anyway??
No really, if you go to school in a college town and you don't want people to recognize you...do you really think using a fake name is going to conceal your identity?
Think about it this way...if someone is crazy enough to stalk you, then it doesn't matter what he calls you!
Morever, if someone IS determined enough, it's not that hard to find out someone's real name. How do you think Private Investigators make a living?
Don't
It's safer to use a stage name, that's true. But it's also true that there is a veritable plethora of ways to determine your identity. That isn't really all. It's important, no matter how much you like dancing, to maintain a separate life, and that is not as easy as it seems. When you start working you will see girls that live at the club - perhaps actually sleeping there, but if not they come in to socialize, they only know other club people etc. Keeping a separate identity is important. You don't have to name yourself "Fire Goddess" or "Foxy Bubbles", you can choose a normal sounding name (that's how I came up with Jenny. It was the normalest name I could think of). If you have problems thinking of a name you like, try thinking of what you would name your daughter. If her name is already used at the club, just pretend it's your second daughter. If you already have a daughter or a second daughter, that might freak you out, so move on to the third.
Good Luck
Jenny
Sonia,
Hey lady! I used and still use my real name. One thing that I totally agree with is saftey issues. Please do not use your real name. When I did dance I got STALKED and harrased because of it. To my defence I used to work in a club very close to where I went to H.S. and so there was no use in using a "stage" name because if I tried I almost always had someone "busting" me plus I was addament about saying " I am CRAZY MEAN and if anyone follows me home I feel sorry for them" (Yeah Right) but it worked for the most part, but please if you, can come up with a "STAGE" name for your own safety! See not everyone can be like GLO! (HA HA) Take Care! Glo
Sorry all i am quilty. ;D I do use my real name. Or Pamela Pauline. Real first and middle name. Pamela
My real name is what you may call a famous name in the sex industry. Most that I got to some one is using my name (which is Tiffany) So I took the first two letters ans last two which creates tiny. Bingo my stage name....lol. Which I spell TiNi ;)
funny part
celebs that you see there faces the ,most tv movies etc etc use real names
radio newspaper use the artificial names
now a radio personality has less chance of beeing reconized by sight then a tv reporter lol
and i sometimes also use a fake name in a club when i get an outragesly fake name or i dont feel comfy with her i make a name up
, usually someone i dont like lOL
I have an odd sounding name so I just make something up like Joe or Bob. 99% of the time, the dancers or the customers aren't going to remember each others name anyway, so you just end up calling each other sweetheart or cutie.Quote:

It all depends on your circumstances I say. I use my real name and havn't had any troubles with it... besides it has the whole "Vanessa the Undresser" thing going with it.
If a customer does ask if it is my real name.. I will say NO it is my stage name of course! If they ask what is my real name... I just choose any old name that comes in my head or even get them to guess it. I like it when they try and guess my name as it is interesting to see which name they choose for me! :-)
I used my real name because, at the time, when I started dancing it was more convienent for me to use Vanessa.... had alot of people who knew me already come to the club and if I chose a different name.. it would mean I would have to go to the hassle of making sure they all called me by my "stage" name.
It is safe for me to use my real name. If I find that my name is already taken I do have a back-up: Trinity.
I have used my real nmae for a couple of years. I have been off work for a couple of months, going back tomorrow. I am considering beginning to use a stage name, mostly for the seperate life/identity reasons mentiioned before. I like Anais (after Anais Nin), but I worry it would be too hard to pronounce. Mary
I've always used my real name. When I try to use a stage name, I get that tingly, red-faced, "I-know-I'm-lying" thing going on. I think that most guys think my name's a stage name because it's so "stripperish." Usually, when I tell a customer my name is Heather, they'll ask, "what's you're real name?" I always say that Heather is my all-purpose name.
Heather Young is a great name, be it for real or for the stage. One of my favorite dancers is named Heather and we got to be great friends, she's like my sister now. I actually like that better than her real name, Emily--I hope she doesn't see this, uh oh. And I was so used to calling her Heather I still get mixed up. One time we got into a huge fight (never mind why, LOL) and she got SO pissed off when I kept calling her Heather, which only made it worse, then I got really mixed up.
When I was still a customer, but starting to hang out after work, etc., I knew I was really the dancers' friend if I found out their real names. But now, I tell them right up front when I meet them the first night they work, DON"T even tell me your real name, because I get spacey when I work, and I'll mix it up--as you know that can be very bad!
I've been meaning to ask you Anais, if that was after Anais Nin. I think that would be very cool, especially considering the nature of her writing--all I have read is a collection of short stories, but they were great (can you recommend one of her better books? cuz I would like some more). But I guarantee your average DJ has never heard of her, and unless you spell it phonetically you'll be "Anaays" all night. Who cares how he writes it on his list! Jesus, I have seen some strange spellings on other DJs lists anyways, LOL.
Didn't she hook up with Henry Miller? And wasn't there a movie about it? I think I saw part of that. Is it a French name, wasn't she French?--I read a little French but never saw it other than hers--did she make it up? Whatever, it's cool.
A dancer stayed at my house for a while whose REAL name was Kandy Kane, she showed me on her licence when I doubted her. But she didn't use it on stage, LOL, it was Star or something, I forget (see what I mean?).

PS by the way, thanks Heather, for the compliment on the dinner thread
You're welcome, but I'm quite sure that my opinion is that of majority. The girls that work at your club are very lucky. :)
Yes, there was a wonderful movie out called "Henry and June" about Anais Nin and her husband, Hugo and her lover, Henry Miller and her other lover, Henry Miller's wife, June. The movie had Uma Thurman playing June and is one of my favorite movies. Pronunciation; in the movie, Henry Miller continually calls her annis.
