They can be great. The best hype men are those customers who do not get dances, but maybe u'll be the girl who will speak to them when noone else has or whatever. U really don't see them that much and suddenly when u r onstage they come up and tip like crazy. Many times the customer thats sitting at the bar is waiting on a girl to simply come up and speak so they can give her all their money. These customers sometimes go unnoticed b/c they sit at the bar instead of at a table or couch.
One nite at work going through the slow hours, between 12 and 1, I spoke to this guy, he was up there waiting for friends. Told me off top he doesn't buy dances I responded that I didn't ask him that but I was speaking to be nice. The club was dead so we chatted for like 10 minutes while I was waiting for my set. I gave him some relationship advice about his gf b/c he mentioned a little issue they were having. I told him bye and that was that. Club got packed and i didn't see him again, but I got onstage and he gave me like 50 singles. This has happened several times by just speaking to a customer or carrying on a quick conversation when its slow even when a customer starts a convo with that "I don't buy dances" shit. I guess it just never hurts to speak.
