Modeling Job
I'm currently looking for a modeling job. I dont know where to start ??? I've called around agencies about the modeling, obviously it's the wrong agencies because they're looking for someone who's 5'8 or taller. some agencies have asked me to send them pictures when I thought I could come by and show them some pictures and perhaps set up an interviews. They told me to send pictures only and they like it they'll call me. I was told to have a professional photographer to help me make a portfoilo but I dont know anyone. I'm looking for something like fashion or swimsuit modeling. If anyone who lives in Tx or houston could help me would surely be appericated.
I've considered modeling because everyone thinks I should model and could use extra money. Things at work has been real slow lately due to bad economy. :(

Re: Modeling Job
Try going to and try setting up an account. Accept only TFP work at first to build your portfolio. If people like you they will mail you. Be warned that they will ALWAYS want you to do more than what you're comfortable with. And obviously the more you are willing to do, the more job offers you will get. Good luck to you. :)

Re: Modeling Job
Yes, yes, that is right www.onemodelplace.com is a good site to start out. I have an acount on it, so many people wrote to me and one photographer made CD of pictures for me for free, just to make a professional portfolio. That was nice ::)

Re: Modeling Job
Two summers ago, when I was still in skule, I spent the summer doing "straight" modeling. It's not that hard to crack into, but you're going to give away TONS of free work before you get any sort of paying assignments.
You're right about the 5'8" part IF what you're looking for is runway. I'm 5'4", and this was before my Breast Implants, so I looked the "young" part enough to do teen fashion (teen lingerie, swimsuits, etc.) for a couple of straight ads. (They HATE hiring actual kids to do that, if they can avoid it). I ended up doing one actual TV commercial for State Farm Insurance ("soaking wet blond in the background" is now on my resume). Bottom line, though, if you want to do straigh modeling, you're gonna be LUCKY to earn minimum wage, and you're gonna have to invest about a grand in head shots and driving around to auditions before you get your first gig.
On the OTHER hand, if you're at all willing to do ANYTHING risque, from bikini models at biker shows to lingerie or biker magazines, etc., then there is a TON of work out there. Most of it is actually less revealing than you will do stripping. Onemodelplace.com or adultstaffing.com are considered pretty good sites, but if you ask around locally among the professional photographers, you should be able to hit on something pretty quickly.

Re: Modeling Job
Susan knows!
I model for a local Harley shop, well known. And have been in an add for American Iron. I had a Harley dealer send in the shot just to show the bikle he built. Gosh they put it in, of course with his permission. Ok it was a hybrid as you call it. Harley parts, but not made at an actual bike shop for Harleys. (if you know what i mean).
Anyway, i pose for alot of bikers who run their local adds in "promotional mag". They do not want you nude, bathing suits are not big with harleys at this point either, they want some leathers, or sexy jeans, little tops mainly now. (some diehards prefer swimsuits).
I have a picture i would love to put up, but can't get anything in the gallery at this point.
Point is i am not a biker babe. They just want to pay a few $$ for a girl to look sexy and attract buyers to their bikes.
I on the other hand LOVE bikes! And i was spotted at a hooters outing. That got me started with the bikes. And i still do the "biker shows". They are fun and a guy will give you a $20 just to lay across his bike in a sexy provacative pose, for himself or whatever. It's not nude.

Re: Modeling Job
Hershey, have you thought about import modeling? I'm trying to break into the scene too and just did a shoot last Sun. In fact, I'll be getting a cd this evening with my prints. That's the way to build up a portfolio. Trade time for prints.
There were 2 photographers at this shoot and ironically I was the only model who showed up. I posed with 4 different cars and the photographer coached me on my poses since all the import model is doing is accenting the car. Supposedly Pepsi was one of the sponsors so I have my fingers and toes crossed.
I think I'll go check out onemodelplace.com.

Re: Modeling Job
::)
Hi,
I am not from TX but I can give you some advice. Modeling is a bit of a strange business, I model myself here in Canada and agencies are not always what they are cracked up to be. A friend of mine helped me out here by looking into some Photo clubs at community centers, and at art schools. They don't pay a model's pay but, you usually get free prints, which will help you get your portfolio started, and sometimes these people have businesses and need models to model for them. Worst case scenario, is that you get some pictures and a few extra dollars in your pockets to model for students or amateurs. (the only difference b/w an amateur and professional photographer is that pros get paid).
Hope that helps.

Lir

Re: Modeling Job
True i waited for someone to approach me. (like with the bikes). First i was having fun, then i would no longer lay on them for free, since we have bikers from all across country coming and going all year long.
I have also had a portfolio made, but it was bathing suit shots, with face shots, because i posed for a very huge pool company.
I just wait untill i get approached, but put myself in the places talent scouts or other photographers go.
For a woman it's usually (believe it or not), not a strip club. But a local library, womans clothing centers. Like Victrias Secret, Fredericks Local gyms. ect.
And functions, like the free modeling "runway" shows lots of cities have where anyone male/female can walk the floor and show off some local designer clothes in the area.
I see them advertise in local papers. (never done it), Been to watch and loads of photographers go.
Swapping out with a photographer is fine, but i would never pay to have one made up of me. I would then show my pics. to alot of agencies.

Re: Modeling Job
I'm on One Model Place also, as a photographer, and it's a good place generally. Several models I know who are also on the site tell me of the PL's who email them wanting to be their boyfriend, looking for sex and even dirty guys looking for a thrill. That's the negative part but there are a lot of professional's on the site, photographers, models, makeup artists, agencies, etc and it's a good place to find work or someone to help with your portfolio. A good sign that the person you're working with is legit is if they supply a hair and/or makeup person. The thing is to be cautious when dealing with anyone. Remember Linda Sobek several years ago and the other model who was abducted recently. You need to show a little caution every time you work with someone. Linda Sobek lost her life to a sadistic photographer shooting for respected magazines, someone she'd worked with several times before so she didn't bother telling people who she was with, where she was going and when she should return. You don't have to be paranoid but just remember basic safety precautions.
You don't have to be 5'8" and rail thin to be a model. Depending on your look there's swimsuit modeling, shows, plus size, petite, teen, Goth, etc. Even girls who specialize in hand or foot modeling.
Good luck!

Re: Modeling Job
From the point of view of someone who is in the business...the market is saturated, both with models and agents. I have worked around the world and can tell you, its not easy. I feel fortunate to have gotten this far. I do commercials as well, because the money is good. One thing I can tell you, wherever you go, make sure the agency is licensed and bonded and they should only make a percentage when you work. Good Luck.
