Change for a $20 from my singles
I was walking around getting tips after my dance on stage and a customer asked me to give him 20 $1 for a $20. I was fine with this, but it took a bit of time and he only tipped me $1 after. Most other customers will then turn around and give back most of the $1 in tips along with the $20. I'm wasn't upset, but was wondering if there is a way to handle this were you aren't just an ATM change machine.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
you can never know how much they will tip you, so it's kind of like you have to take your chances there or have $20 in ones readily available!

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
I would have maybe taken a chance on the guy or maybe had the waittress get him change. It depends on my mood. I will always get change for someone who has bought a dance or someone that I know is good for tips, but some of the cheapos irk me. Its not like what he is asking is so bad, its just that it takes up a lot of time and the time isn't really worth the money in some cases when all is said and done.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
I never ever give change unless the guy just got a dance and the correct change is on top of my purse. I usually point them towards the bartender. I have more important things to do and they never give me a bigger tip. Sounds bitchy I know, I'm really good about helping people out when I'm outside the club but...

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
Say--" I only have 16$,17$ of the 20"...this way if they want those ones they will sacrifice the 3 or 4 dollars...besides i trade in my ones continuosly so it is usually true!

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
I once had a guy put a five on stage and take up four ones! I preceded to tell him in a loud voice that this is not how we make chaange and that once it hits the stage it's mine!

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
He helped you get rid of a chunk of ones. I would have been glad to get a $20 bill instead of going home with all those ones because the bar won't always take all of our ones.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
this is what I hate...
when they count them again
I just counted them! He could have watched. I even count out loud. I was in a pissy mood last night and some guy recounted them and then after that, said "what are you going to do for this dollar?" I snapped..."Jesus Fucking Christ, just give me the dollar!"...and he did. Actually, I think he gave me two.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
I always thought along the lines of Tina, that it was such a small exchange of mutual conveniences that it was no big deal. Akin to me loaning a few quarters or a stamp to a coworker.
And here I had been thinking Emily was a nice, sweet, ferret-loving kind of person. I will now go skulk over to the corner before she smites me with her mighty wrath. Please don't hit me with the coat-hanger again!!

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
What about when they ask you to fetch the waitress for them or get them a drink? Yuck, I just say sure, and disappear... jerks

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
I have no problem exchanging ones for tens or twenties, unless I am in the middle of something. I'll sometimes use the, "oh I only have $18 in ones, do you mind?" and I make an etxra $2 when I don't sense a tip. It doesn't matter to me though, I'd rather be rid of the ones than make a fuss over using 1 minute of my time to count out 20 in exhange for a larger bill.

Sorry, I know it's just dancers posting in this forum, but I have to chime in. wtf? :highfive: to you, girl! I hope the tacky *sshole was embarrassed enough to put the money back. In my evil mind, there is a vision of homey's fingers being "accidently" crushed under a clear-acrylic heel! :rotfl:
Okay, going back to my corner. ;)

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
Since I am a bartender, I have always had the luxury of going to a SC with upwards of 150 dollars in ones (plus a sufficient amount of bigger bills). I am well prepared to tip everyone (and more then a measily dollar as well). However, there have been the odd time where I had less ones then I thought, or went through them faster then I expected. When that happens, I will either first get change from a bartender or second I will get a dancer who knows me to break a 20 ("Can I take some of those singles off your hands?"). Never never never have the dancer on stage break it. That is the height of tacky, plus it wastes the dancers time while in her "tipping mode".
My personal "exchange rate" for breaking a 20 is 2 bucks. You break my 20, thats what I give you in appreciation. Its just a nice little gesture. This doesnt count in any tips for dancing - its just for getting me singles.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
along the linees of the taking change off stage...this happened to me Saturday night. The guy pulled two singles out of his wallet and stuck them in my cleavage, and then realizing his error, pulled the extra one out. I was so amazed that all I could do is laugh at him for being such a loser.

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
Ya I hate when guys act like I'm the waitress or something! lol I'm like YOU should be fetching ME the drink. :P I totally call the cheap guys on it when their right in the middle of being cheap. It usually embarrases them if I say it loud enough and they stop. I love the clubs where they have the bouncer at the door explain how the club works and how to tip us dancers and especially where the bar is, along with the waitresses. It made my job a whole lot easier!! ;)

OMG that "what r u gonna do for this dollar" thing seriously pisses me off, especially if I've just finished dancing my heart out. It's like - Hello, its ONE dollar. i work on tips alone.

"I totally call the cheap guys on it when their right in the middle of being cheap."
Me too! Once I had a guy say, "I can't get a couch dance but I'll take a dollar dance!" I replied, "Sweetheart, you may be cheap, but I'm not," and walked away.
And what's more, a new girl that was sitting on his friend's lap (and has a habit of sitting with people too long for no money) left shortly thereafter to work a different guy! I hope she got some money out of him. :)

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
Yes.....cheapos deserve to be humiliated...especially the ones wagging that big fat $1 and telling you onstage..."you really need to work for this". Usually they are so full of hot air that you can pretty much grab the buck out of their grubby hand, give em the bird and walk away laughing!
The tip for change thing is a good idea...I've used it getting tips for bellydancing and band appreciation, which usually pays quite poorly..it helps...

Re:Change for a $20 from my singles
When a customer asks me for change, I ALWAYS keep at least $1 for myself. Playfuly say "I kept one (or 2 or whatever) for myself" and smile. A kiss on the cheek doesn't hurt. I've never had any bad results.
