Re:How to make $ at amateur night
I didn't see anyone being offended by your desire to make money at amateur night. But here is a theory: We all are used to 'civilians' acting as if we're somehow lower than them because we strip for money. (Lots and lots and lots of those same civilians who put us down will dry hump just about any dude at a regular nightclub for nothing and fuck just about whoever happens along when they get drunk, but that is beside the point.) And we often get girls in our clubs who would never 'stoop' to stripping, but they'll sure as HELL put on a big show in front of everyone when they get a little drunk. Or they'll do amateur contests for extra cash but adamantly deny that they're strippers because "it's not the same". I'm not saying you are one of those, but perhaps that is the way your post came across to some. Think about it. "I want tips on how to make more money stripping in contests, but I'm not REALLY a stripper." Sounds a little contradictory doesn't it?
Anyway I don't have any beef. I really hope you work things out.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
There are many body types. I'm sure you are familiar with ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph.
http://bodybuildingpro.com/bodytypeinformation.html
I think you are an endomorph based on your info. Most ballet dancers, runwymodel, and showgirl types are ectomorphs. Strippers can be ecto and meso, with meso being the curvier, bustier type. I am meso, but both types appeal to different tastes... :yummy:
These distinctions are kind of outdated, but I find them to be an accurate benchmark to start with....Basically, there is only so much you can do with the body, metabolism, and health that was given to you. It sounds as if you have a poor genetic predisposition due to what you have said about yourself and your family. This is unfortunate, but that is life..
Stripping is really HARD on the body, it is very high impact on the joints. Wearing heels and having to hold certain "sexy" postures requires low body weight and high muscle strength. You can do ok for a little while crawling around on the floor, but no skilled stripper does that for long: it bores the audience AND it is really bad on the knees. I've had surgery on my knee from sports, and crawling around it something I keep at a MINIMUM unless I want to spend another 20K on ACL surgery......
I am sorry about your financial situation, but I think you can prove that you are emancipated from your family, and that they do not offer you financial assistance..many people have done it.....
Ultimately, I just don't think you are built for stripping. Even my 5'7" 100 lb cousin training at the Stuttgart ballet was put on a diet...and she is SKINNY...it will never be good enough.....I wish you luck. One of my best friends is a big girl, 6ft, over 200lb, and she feels and acts sexier than most thin girls I know....she has confidence...but she knows that she could never be a stripper...and I think that's the conclusion you should come to as well.....
Of course, there are girls @ the clubs I've worked in with your proportions, they make some money. Houston is pretty liberal about that kind of thing. BUT, we are all concerned about your health doing this...heart condition in a smokey environment,etc.... :hot:
Incidentally, I have seen bigger girls with high body weight excel at stripping....but they are very HEALTHLY in their lifestyle and proportions........so I am not dissing anyone here.... ;)
Good luck mami, you'll suceed at whatever you put your heart and energy into. Stripping is not worth it for your needs and goals... :goodvibes:

Re:How to make $ at amateur night
Totallyamateur, lot's of us could post sob stories about our lifes. Most of us have them, and a lot of them would sound a lot worse that yours. Most of us could have said "I can't" and we would still be where you are - helpless and frustrated. But we didn't, we looked at what we could do and we did it, even when it was hard, and we moved on.
So this is my constructive criticism - look at what you can do, and do it. Stop focusing on what you can't do.
So, some things you can do...
On the FASFA box, just check the box saying you were a foster child. I do (cause I was) and nobody has ever asked me for proof. If you have to use credit, do a student loan instead of a credit card. It's a lower rate of interest, the interest is tax deductable, you don't have to pay it back for a while but you can pay it back before you graduate if you want.
Make money, dammit! - http://www.keen.com - http://www.ifreinds.com - http://www.sexyjobs.com - etc.
Yes, I know you're already working and going to school, but ya know what? You can do more. You can do whatever it takes. If I can work a regular full time job, and dance three nights a week, and go to high school, and take care of my lil sis (and I did, and was valedictorian of my class) then I know you can go to school and work enough to support yourself and your education.
Just do it!
Lena
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
Thanks girls, I really honestly appreciated your posts. And you know what (not that I really need to tell you this cuz you already know but...), you're right! I've decided to give up on the contest--cuz, of course, I didn't win again. I got lucky once, that's all. There are other things I need to be focused on.
Lena--I would LOVE to get a loan but I can't--I don't have any credit. I was finally given a credit card last August through Capital One but I don't have any "credit"--as in, something to prove I'm a worthy borrower--for at least another 2 months. :-\ And I did talk to a financial aid counselor--the only way around the law is to get "documented proof" that I was abused by my father--which is somewhat true, but I'd never go that low just to pay for college--I may hate my dad sometimes but under it all, I still love him, and I'd never do that to him.
But again, thanks girls...especially for understanding. :)
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
we had an amateur night at a club i used to work at, and it was awful. there was one girl who was actually an amateur who was actually pretty good, and the prize went to a waitress who worked at the club instead. it was a dead night, so all the girls cheered for her & got the 10 guys in the club to as well. it was whack.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
technicly i think 'amature night is just a way to hire more girls. its just an open audition night. at my club they actually call it amature/audition night and say that you dont have to be an amature right in the ad. between that and the $200 prize is why i went to that club instead of the other one i was consitering. I liked it here and just havent found a reason to leave yet.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
I agree, if you participate always in the same club you will be known to the crowd, and you won't be an amateur any longer for them. Usually small clubs clubs would welcome skilled dancers with fresh faces.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
WOW! let me just say I am soooooo impressed with everybody's patience with totallyamateur. I don't see why she took offense to anybody's comments, everybody was only trying to help.
I recall a post by TA saying she was happy to make an extra $5. That is the wrong attitude for this business, amatuer or pro.
Totallyamateur, regarding student loans: anybody with the most fucked up credit can get a student loan. Maybe if you're currently in a Chapter 13 you can't but I bet you still could.
A $50 prize for an amateur contest? I've never heard of such a thing. Not even in the most podunk town. You CAN win at amateur contests. You need to be willing to travel at least just a bit, to the next town or two because yes you gotta remain "fresh meat". Take as many friends with you as possible. Amateur contests are almost always won by audience applause. They're either rigged or they're won by audience applause. There ARE pro's who travel a circuit and do contest after amateur contest so your desire to only do contests is not unreasonable. When doing contests, your goal should not be for stage tips; you are trying to place for one of the cash prizes. Don't give up. You just might walk away with the $800 prize one night from a nearby town.
Good luck and apply for a student loan. You might be amazed. I sure as hell was.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
um....hate to tell ya, but I DID apply for loans....what am I? A fucking moron?! Uh no.
And you can stop being condescending, I don't appreciate it. Last time I checked, I'm smarter than 95% of the population in America--I just got stuck living in a crap-ass rural village with poor education, a non-existent local economy--no jobs, no money, no nothing--a hard-luck family, and all that other crap. Yeah, I could have gone to med school, law school, or engineering (all of which I happen to excel in--I scored in the 99th percentile in all areas in aptitude tests)....but you need money to make money. I have the brains....just no money. I'm sorry if you find my post tedious or absurd--but that's your problem--if you don't like it don't read it, and for god's sake stop replying to it--it only makes the damn thing pop up again.
So for my own piece of mind, let's let it stop here. I'm fat, lazy and penniless...I will never do an amateur night again....I got it, thanks...let's move on.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
You don't need money to make money. That is bullshit. If you're that smart, you can get scholarships for college. That's what I did, got half my tuition paid with scholarship. Btw, those aptitude tests don't measure whether you're 'smarter' than anyone else, they only measure 'potential'. I also scored in the upper 90 percentiles in all sections of those tests. Heck, I even got the highest score for my grade level in the WHOLE STATE one year. I also came from a hard luck family and had no money and little opportunity. But a bit of work, gumption and just plain old persistence can get you alot in this world. I don't make excuses, I make things happen. If all you ever do is complain about all the problems and why it's so difficult, you'll never accomplish anything. Most people don't have it easy. Maybe you don't like what we have to say - the truth often isn't pleasant. So I'll just leave it at this: Put up or shut up.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
You mistook my direct and to the point attitude for condescension. You're very smart for recognizing that you're not strip club material be it amateur or pro; Your give up mentality and poor attitude will ensure you're a low earner at the club.
Buh-bye.
Re:How to make $ at amateur night
look, I'm not trying to be rude, I just want this thread to be over--we don't need to beat it over the head anymore--it's been dead for a long time.
I do appreciate everyone trying their best to respond as they see fit. I guess intentions are what's important. Thank you all very much for trying to help me even if I misunderstood.
But again, let's just leave this post be. Thanks girls. :)
