What to eat?? Why is it so confusing!!!
This is going to sound kind of strange but sometimes I just don't know what to eat. I like to thing of myself as healthy and in pretty good shape, but sometimes I just don't know. There is so much shit out there these days and so much conflicting research about whats good and whats not that I kinda get lost.
I am a vegan and have been for several years, I eat mostly organic, and recently have been leaning towards a more raw food diet. I try and listen to my body which is sometimes easier said than done. My biggest weakness would have to be bread which I do indulge in from time to time.....
I don't know where exactly I am going with this but anything you ladies (and lads) have to add would be great :)

Sorry I can't help much. I'm not a vegan ( I love my steaks to damn much) I woudl just suggest eating what you feel is good. Dont hold so many restrictions.

Consult a nutritionist and make sure you get enough carbs, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats, water, that you need for your size ,age, and lifestyle. Avoid junk foods and you're pretty much set.

Hun it can be conflicting. Just eat what feels good to you, and don't buy too much into the hype. I eat what i like, which at this point is not meat, or milk, but thats me. Mix up meals, and have fun, enjoy what you truly want, that way you will stick with your diet and be happy.
We all eat many different items on this board, and that is great. Some love meat, some don't.
Be you, eat what tastes good, and enjoy!
Only you can decide whats good for you in the long run. Read up on foods.

I tried to go vegan. I just can't. Too much discipline and such a variety of food out there! If you're completely vegan, indulging in bread is perfectly ok. I eat Natural Ovens brand, they have great tasting whole wheat/ multi grain breads with so much fiber! You should invest in some vegan cook books. There's probably so much more variety you could have in your diet but just don't know it!
Re:What to eat?? Why is it so confusing!!!
It's confusing because nutritional science is complex, and it's easy for even the experts to frequently get the wrong answers.
As this excellent NYT article by Gary Taubes put it:
Quote:
Scientists are still arguing about fat, despite a century of research, because the regulation of appetite and weight in the human body happens to be almost inconceivably complex, and the experimental tools we have to study it are still remarkably inadequate. This combination leaves researchers in an awkward position. To study the entire physiological system involves feeding real food to real human subjects for months or years on end, which is prohibitively expensive, ethically questionable (if you're trying to measure the effects of foods that might cause heart disease) and virtually impossible to do in any kind of rigorously controlled scientific manner. But if researchers seek to study something less costly and more controllable, they end up studying experimental situations so oversimplified that their results may have nothing to do with reality. This then leads to a research literature so vast that it's possible to find at least some published research to support virtually any theory. The result is a balkanized community -- ''splintered, very opinionated and in many instances, intransigent,'' says Kurt Isselbacher, a former chairman of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Science -- in which researchers seem easily convinced that their preconceived notions are correct and thoroughly uninterested in testing any other hypotheses but their own.
