How much money is typical?
I am wondering how much money is typical (I know it is going to vary a lot!) to make in a night? I live in the Portland Oregon area and am thinking about starting dancing. If anyone can give me a ballpark idea of what I would make to start out. Thank you!

Re:How much money is typical?
anywhere from $0 to $1000

Re:How much money is typical?
I dance at a small (non-Detroit) low-milage club in Michigan. I make on average* $100-250 weeknights, $250-500 weekends. Girls at the higher milage clubs will make about $100 more on a good night. A 10 girl can make over a Grand a night at a prime city club.
The money you make will depend on; location, clientele, and hustle. The economy and holidays will accordingly affect your income (good or bad) too.
Check out the local clubs in your area, amature nights are great for this! But never work anywhere that asks you to do more than you're comfortable with, or treats you badly. It's not worth it.

Re:How much money is typical?
From what I've heard about the situation in Oregon, money there won't ever be $1000 in a night. I've never been there, but I'd guess $500 in a night would be just about tops. I think we have some girls here from Oregon, so they could tell you better.

Re:How much money is typical?
I found earnings across the US typicaly ran as follows:
small club/town 100-300
med club/town 200-500
Big showclubs 500- 1000

Re:How much money is typical?
In Vegas (or big clubs in any major city) it varies. Assuming you have 100 girls working on a Saturday night and the club is big and busy, here is a typical breakdown:
70 dancers making $150 - $300
20 dancers making $300 - $700
10 dancers making $1000+
Usually you won't hear about the top 10% as they aren't very vocal about making that much (one of the reasons they consistently make $1000 each night). I can tell you however, I know a LOT of dancers in Vegas making well in excess of $1000 each night they work. Amber Smith, my business partner, retired last year from dancing. She usually worked 3 or sometimes 4 nights a week. There wasn't one night in the last year she danced where she made less than $1000. Actually, she'll even tell you that if she made $1000 in a shift, it was a bad night for her. She was one of probably three or four girls in her club that averaged $1500 a night, each night they worked and did so completely legitimately. In any major club, you'll always have a small handful of girls making that kind of money, it's just that they know better than to be very vocal about it.

Re:How much money is typical?
One thing i want to say about rayanna's post is that I mostly agree with her, but instead of saying the minimum a dancer can earn in a medium sized club is 200 and a showclub is 500, I would change the minimums to 0 up to even -$100 in the larger fancy clubs, because there is no guarantee that every girl given the amount of dancers on the floor nowadays in relation to the customers will sell anyone and their payouts may very well exceed their floor earnings.
In a small club everyone will usually come out with some kind of money, but that is not the case the larger and more upscale the club because the amount of dancers relative to the customers is very high nowadays giving the guys more to choose from and ghuys are pickier how they spend their money in an environment where it costs more to play.
In a small club with a handful of girls you will always get some stage tips and sell a handful of dances on slow nights and the payouts are small. in a big club you are just another body in the room and you hardly go on stage and don't have the DJ pumping you up. The potential for high earnings exists in a large club but many girls have rollercoaster earnings in them
Hopefully the Dancer Wealth seminar for those of us who choose to attend can help us lessen the down days and also help us learn how to get hired in clubs that want to give us the brushoff (being I'm a woman of color this has happened a lot).

Re:How much money is typical?
Tina is correct in part. It is very true that some girls go home with less money than they walked in with. I'd say at least 4 out of every 5 students we have have told us that they have had nights where they have made zero dollars or less. One of the clubs here in Vegas used to make the dancers buy a $20 T-shirt every night when they came on shift (over and above their buy-in for the night) and the idea was that during a certain hour of the evening when announced, they had to give the shirt away to a customer who bought a lap-dance. So essentially the customer buys the dance for $20, and the girl gives him the shirt for free, so in essense she did a free lapdance. I knew one girl who had three shirts in her locker because she wasn't able to even sell one dance that hour. Now, this is the exception to the rule, and it does still happen.
That being said, I do disagree with you regarding club sizes in relation to making money. In the big clubs is where the real money is made. There are more guys and yes, obviously more dancers, although with more dancers means more dancers who are inexperienced or don't know how to work the club. A small club may have 20 dancers where 18 of them are not doing well where a big club may have 150 dancers were 135 are not doing well. The proportions are usually the same. The difference it that in a big club, there are more oportunities to make money if you know how to. That's why it is typical for some girls to go home every night with $1500 in their pocket in a big club, and in a club 1/3 the size, they'll only go home with $500-700.
Also as with being of color, I have to disagree with you again. It is a very common myth about this business that if you are of African American, Asian, or other ethnicity, that you won't do as well. It's one of the first things we teach in our class actually as to why that's not true. I can't tell you how many dancers of ethnic origin I know that do really well in this business. Not every guy that walks into a club wants a blonde with big........ :) Remember, a truly good salesperson really can sell snow to an Eskimo. Just don't fall into the mindset that because you are a woman of color that the majority of men in the club aren't interested.

Re:How much money is typical?
In Portland, probly not much. Last I'd heard it was in the $50-300 range for most girls at most clubs, but that was about a year ago.

Is this really accurate? I got the impression that the girls are the big money clubs were better hustlers. I've only worked in one club, but I've been there for awhile. There are about 5-15 girls on a night shift, but it's small. And honestly, I'm usually the #1 earner for the night. It's easy because the other girls don't even attempt to hustle or don't really know how. is this the case in big show clubs too? I figured since we had no house fees, it made it easy for these girls to stick around. You never have to worry about walking out with zero dollars (tip out is $10 each to hosuemom and DJ, and there's no housemom during the day).

Emily..
Dancer Wealth hit the nail right on the head ! I too worked in a small club then finally moved into larger show clubs. I was shocked to see how many girls, beautiful girls didn't make money. Only a handful of us make the big money. And just like someone said I keep the amount of money I make to myself.

Most successful dancers do keep their income to themselves Farrah and it's a good quality to have. Many dancers think that bigger clubs mean bigger incomes. It's just not the case. What it does mean though is bigger opportunities. However, with inexperienced dances, those oportunities often fall by the wasteside or just go to that top 5% of dancers who know how to hustle the room efficiently. Every time I go into one of the big clubs here in Vegas, it never ceases to amaze me how many dancers I talk to just have no real idea how to work effectively.
Also, big clubs have more customers which means they have to have more dancers. The Catch 22 is that by having more dancers means more customers and so some clubs just will fill their club up with anyone who is willing to pay their entrance fee and just take what they can get. So to answer the question, many big clubs don't always have lots of skillful hustlers in the room dancing, they just have a lot of dancers.

Re:How much money is typical?
if you've been there a while then you'll get the hang of it and be able to walk out with 1000 or over every night! it takes regulars and it takes time to develop a huge cliental!

Re:How much money is typical?
also any advice that dancer wealth puts out take it! they know what they are talking about, they take the words right out of my mouth!

That's just silly. There are only a few select clubs in certain areas where girls are going to make 1000 on a typical night. In most clubs, 95% of them, 1000 a night is simply not possible--the money just isn't there. Not even for a perfect 10 with a charming personality.
Rayanna's estimates are far more accurate.

Re:How much money is typical?
I always told myself that if I was making less then $200 bucks a night on a regular basis I'd quit for good. I feel like I need Atleast 200 a night to do what we do. :-* But that's just me. I average 400 a night at a small club with no alcohol,no table dances, and no vip rooms-just private dances for 25 a piece which house gets 5 of that.

agreed. nexus has 100 girls employed and theres a few girls who can easily and consistently pull off a few grand a night (totally legit)

Re:How much money is typical?
I agree with shedevil, if I don't take home at least $200 I am pissed off and question if it is worth my time (fortunatley I don't have many nights like this). But you have to take the good with the bad. I like to average $60 an per hour, fantastic if I can hit $100 an hour but don't settle for less then $20 otherwise I could be wasting my time somewhere with my clothes on.
-
Re:How much money is typical?
I only worked 3.5 hours last night, it was apparently 'a lousy night, many girls were complaining, and discounting fees I went home with about $60. I'm not living off of it and it's easy work, I make much more at that than any 'regular' job around here with my experience. At minimum wage an eight hour shift might get me $40 to take home, and usually for more work.
-
Re:How much money is typical?
You get spoiled. On my first shift I worked 8 hours and went home with $150. I was thrilled. Then I started make more and in less time and I've become a spoiled brat! It's come to the point that I won't even do volunteer work anymore. I worked a bake sale and we made $100 as a group! Now I just give them money. I just can't work for less than $50/hr any more.
I've seen lots of girls who make $100 per shift on a regular basis and I guess to them it's worth it, but I would never do that now. $20/hr is still $20 an hour and where are you going to make that these days? But god damn, I wish they wouldn't sell themselves so short. You ARE getting naked.
I made $150 last night after a 5 hour shift and I was in a grumpy mood. Dancing will change you!

Re:How much money is typical?
Sam in my club. Its very upscale but only 10 or 11 go home with 1000$or 2000 or more.
-
Re:How much money is typical?
sometimes i go home with 120!and am pretty.but sometimes i go home with much more. its all about hustle skills.I got to step it up.
-
Re:How much money is typical?
The amount always varies, in Arizona it can be VERY GOOD or VERY bad. I never make less than $20/ hour but I do aim for $60/an hour. Sometimes I get really perturbed and take a break, refresh and come back full force and start truly hustling. I have had shifts so bad that I HAD to leave with $10 and felt totally degraded and there are times when I have left with WAAAYYY more. In excess of $500. The good nights do make up for the bad nights.
-
Re:How much money is typical?
Perhaps I can offer a very different perspective --that of a dancer who works ultra-upscale, lucrative clubs almost exclusively: $100/hr is a base minimum for me -- If I'm not earning that on average, then I feel like an absolute failure. More typical is an average of about $150 per hour, and on good nights, more like $200 per hour.
Last night, for example, I worked 10 pm to 4 am and took home $720 despite the fact that I paid out nearly $200 in fees to the club -- This was a very typical night in terms of earnings per hour.
