Liquid Courage
I have been dancing for 4-5 months straight and I got into the habit of drinking before I go on stage. I don't drink when I am not at work or anything, but once I get back I start up shot after shot. What is good way to stop drinking and get rid of the butterflies. I don't smoke cigarettes or anything, but when I get to work there I go with the alcohol. :-\ Please help I need to get out of this really bad habit. :'( What are other ways to get rid of the anxiety. I heard herbs help?

Re:Liquid Courage
Yesterday I had to do liquid patience to deal with all of the out of town bimbos who latch on to guys like vultures the second they walk through the door and the stupid little bitches who sit around and talk to guys for free. I can not begin to tell you how much these little bitches are pissing me off.
As for getting out of the alcohol thing maybe you could try AA and a psychiatrist. Maybe you are self medicating because you have a biochemical imbalance which could be corrected with psychiatric medication of some kind which is not addictive (Unlike alcohol which is extremely addictive). It is a very tough habit to kick. You should definately consider getting some assistance.

Re:Liquid Courage
I think you just have performance anxiety since you don't drink outside of work......
One suggestion: practice sexy dancing for your boyfriend or a close friend or two at home.
Also, I am sure there are books for actors with methods of how to get over stage fright, do a search on Amazon and you may find some tips....
I personally like to spend a couple of minutes alone, do some stretching, breathing excercise, a little yoga meditation, and I make a couple of goals for myself for the evening.....
Finally, would it be possible just to have one cocktail before you go on stage for your first show? Once you are out there and loosened up, do you really need to keep hitting the shots?
Hope this helps, good luck!

Re:Liquid Courage
How about picturing your audience naked? Ok, i'll admit. it's a stupid suggestion. But I just had to say it. :)

Re:Liquid Courage
Try changing clubs. I used to have a drink almost every night (just one, but still almost every night I worked). Changing clubs changed my habits, so I'm back to just the soda.

Re:Liquid Courage
My ATF told me (years later) that she never once danced without first getting high on pot. She ended up in rehab which fortunately worked for her. If you're doing shots every day you're headed in the same direction. The fact that you're looking for help is a good sign. If you can't dance sober you probably shouldn't be dancing, it's going to cause you a lot of future problems that may last a lifetime.

Re:Liquid Courage
I agree with FONDL, if you need alcohol to perform, you are heading in the wrong direction perhaps.
I like DJ's advice, and I HAVE done this, putting thre crowd in the same situation i am in, the mind is a very powerful tool! But be careful, you may end up laughing! Hell it works, and remember not all eyes are on you, alot are going about other business.
Hope you feel better,
Pamela

Re:Liquid Courage
I agree with Live. Sorry to say but you'd best be better off with a support group like AA then try to take the problem on by yourself.

Re:Liquid Courage
Try looking at dancing as a "real sales job", and not as a hustle.
If you were making a real sales presentation you wouldn't drink, or you would be fired.
The more comfortable you make yourself with this business, the more you will realize that being high affects your earning ability.
How often do you work? The more you work or the longer you have danced, the more "old hat" going on stage or talking to customers will become.

Re:Liquid Courage
Having a few b4 work is an evil crutch that will only support your eventual need of a work buzz. I know far too many girl's and infact have a few working for me now that live by that rule. It start's out usually on a girl's first night in the form of " hey it'll loosen you up a little " but it often proceed's to a bad habit that being a dancer you need a few to help you deal with all that comes with the job.
Step one is to force yourself to go one night without a drink, it'll suck and you'll be all fucked up about it but you will get through it and once you make it the first night just keep doing it.
It's ok in my mind to cut loose like one night a week and party alittle, hell if you have any work ethic at all you find yourself working through all the party time. Throwing the party is alright if you get to enjoy it occasionally.
Be strong and have alittle more faith in your ability, beauty and personality you will find that the liquor impeed's your progress more then you know. A drunk is never attractive regardless of how pretty they are ( not to imply that you are a drunk mind you ) although they are the only one that doesn't realise it.
Peace

Re:Liquid Courage
Since no one has mentioned it and it is a natural "complimentary" medicne (sp?).... have you thought about making some "magickal water" that you take with you to work ???
It is up to you if you want to personalise the magickal water by adding the Bach Flower Remedies that you require or else just add a few drops of what is commonly called "Rescue Remedy". It will DEFINATELY help you overcome your anxiety or "stage fright".
It is also natural and won't interfere with any other medication you need or are on... I highly recommend BFRs

Re:Liquid Courage
It took me about a year for the butterflies to go away. It helps to work at a different club and then go back to your home club. My "performace anxiety" has now turned into "exhileration"
