"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
This is what I've titled my newest burned CD (Vol. I of course) It's just that I go to great lengths to find music that is not quite mainistream but still really cool and I get pissed when girls "steal" my songs. I mean, there's sooooo mnay other tracks why do girls have to play the EXACT SAME SONG? Especially if it's something that gets absolutely no radio play. Of course I can only blame myself because I divulged 2 artists to one girl in particular and she swore she wouldn't play them but guess what? ta-da! she plays them. Now my music will strictly be on blank burned cd's with no song titles or artists.
I know I sound petty but I'm on my 5th hot rum toddy and had to vent since I'm downloading all new songs (new to the club anyhow). Surely someone else out there gets bent outta shape.

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I have never had a problem with that kinda thing. infact in flordia, there was a girl who had several very difrent songs that everyone loved but we didnt use them, even on days she didnt work. after she quit though it was almost a fight for all of her music. :)
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
well, I suppose now that you mention it my problem is only with one girl.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I can see how this could piss you off, but take it as a compliment to your impecable taste in music.
Youve got to work with the girl, may as well play nice unless she does something truly horendous.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Sapphire, I totally hear ya on that.... I burn all of my cds, but sometimes I will be nice and tell them what it is, but I dont think I will be doing that anymore. LOL
I'll just say that a friend made the cd
:)
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Sapphire, I totally feel ya. This one chick has been TOTALLY copying my stuff. And then if I want to play a certain song she has the NERVE to say it's 'her' song. Of course I made it well known that she or anyone else isn't welcome to copy my stuff, and since I tip the DJs better than the others, it wasn't hard for me to nip that shit in the bud. And the damn manager brought in a cd burner and copied all my damn CDs. Heh, when we had our christmas party the dj was just putting copies of my CDs on and letting them play. I was like, HELLO, can't you play something else? It's kinda cool I suppose that they all like my music, but damn! So yeah, I took to just bringing in blank CDs that I number and write a hint of the song title with no artists or anything on a separate sheet so they can't just look at my stuff and steal my songs. It REALLY pisses me off to spend all that time finding stuff I like that no one else is playing, only to have some lazyass bitch copy me. I liken it to someone running out and buying the exact same dress and wearing it the same day you do - it is JUST NOT COOL. People, get your own damn music!
Of course now that I'm leaving and the manager has copies of all my stuff, I know that as soon as they realize I'm not coming back (I'm not making it known - they can just figure it out) they'll all be fighting over it. LOL
End rant.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I let dancers 'have' certain songs, to a limited extent. If another dancer comes along asking for the same song and I know the first is really attached to it, I will make her go ask permission. Some dancers will get bent out of shape and say that "noone has the copyright on that song", but if it's MY music, that argument doesn't cut it.
If you have brought in your own CDs, the DJ should recognize your effort and not let another dancer use the same songs. It's too bad you have to use tricks, but unmarked CDs and a closed mouth are good ideas. You can always plead ignorance and claim a friend burned it for you, if they ask you who the band or artsist is.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Since I'm in total agreement, and it pisses me off when others can't think for themselves enough to find their "own" songs...I will just say this...
Sapphire, I love the title of your CD!!!! :)

This begs the question: How did these people get a hold of your CD's in the first place? :-\

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I totally know what you mean. My DJ plays my songs (and sometimes even my sets off my CDs) for other girls, when I am there!! I had to pay him $20 to stop playing my CDs. I still am not sure if he plays them even when I am not there... so I starte dbringing my CDs home with me. Then it turns out he uploads the CDs on the computer... what the hell is the point of bringing them in & playing ORIGINAL music? I don't get it!?
We have about 6000 songs on the mp3 database but people still can't come up with their own stuff. I am always burning CDs with white labels & songs that no one has ever heard of & then suddenly it's being played to the point where I don't want it anymore. I am in the process of changing my music scheme right now since I am so sick of it!

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
o.k I personally think it is stupid for a girl to get mad over some one using her music, whether or not they tried really hard to find some different music. You know all the newbie's dont know the "stripper code" and you can surely expect for some one to steal it from you. I used to actually care and be creative with my burned cds but so many girls begged for my so called song "whatever that means" from the dj and then him wanting a better tip from the girl lets her dance to it..I still find cool music but I definetly dont waste my time and emotions on getting butt hurt over it. C'mon we have bigger fish to fry... Like making that money!! Sorry I just had to say that because I think it's so dumb when I see a girl start cusisng infront of the customers over some stupid thing. "That bitch stole my song" Isnt a great conversation topic. I try to act like it doesnt get to me though. I've even seen some scary chics corner the girl in the bathroom threating to beat her up if she played "her song" again. I mean... sheesh right? :-\ :-*

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Since we're doing a show, and trying to create our own thing, and spending HOURS to find even one good song that fits our own style and isn't being played by everyone else, it is perfectly acceptable to expect other lazyass cunts to stay off it. Like I said, it's like some stupid chick running out and getting the exact same outfit as you and wearing it the same day, or worse, like the cunt STEALING your outfit and then wearing it in front of you - we don't like that and we don't like music copiers. It doesn't matter if they're new - they seem to be able to figure out they should use their own style for outfits, so it follows they can use their own style for music. No I don't start fights or make scenes in front of customers, but I do make sure - appropriately - that others don't play my music. The girls can beg all they want for the music I bring in, but as long as I'm dancing to it, they can stay OFF it. If I want to dance to the same crap as everyone else, I won't bother searching and bringing the stuff in.
Carlos, I mentioned the manager brought in a cd copier and he actually took my CDs out of the booth one night while I was working and copied them. Didn't ask, just copied them all. Now I'm hardly going to get pissed off because someone wants to copy my CDs, but not to use at work dammit!
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
its understandable if the girl is a newbie, so how can anyone with a head on their shoulders get upset. BUT when a girl from your club whose been there before KNOWS your music and tries to copy, yes it does get annoying. It pisses me off cause I spend the time finding the different songs and she uses it to her advantage. This shit does piss me off royally.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I feel your pain...well, sort of.
The reason girls are stealing your
song(s) really only comes down to one thing which is lack of creativity.
I
paid my way through college being a magician.
I still perform from time to
time and even owned a business building illusions for other magicians.
There was nothing more frustrating than when I created a totally unique and
original performance or method of performing an illusion and then saw someone a
few months later using the same method or patter that I used.
It used to
drive me crazy.
The reality though is that these people are so uncreative
it's their only avenue.
Do I respect respect them?
Absolutely
not.
Do I understand them?
Yes.
It's human nature no matter
how lousy it is.
The best thing you can do is stay one step ahead of
them.
When you come up with something new, perform the heck out of it and
when they copy you, come up with something new and better.
You'll get the
last laugh and eventually people will catch on to what the other girl is
doing.
Be as creative as you can with your music and people go nuts for it.
There's nothing more boring than a girl going on stage to "Cowboy"
or
"Girls Girls Girls" for the 1 millionth time.
I met a dancer out of L.A. a
number of years ago who used to dance to music she got off the "TV Tunes"
albums.
There was nothing funnier than watching a girl dance on stage to
the theme song from the Jetsons or the Flintstones.
Everone laughed at her
when she first thought of the idea until they saw her patrons go absolutely
crazy when she was on stage and she walked off stage with more $5 and $10 bills
than most of the girls walked off with singles.
There's an old saying iin
sales that we teach in our class, "laughs make cash".

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Okay people so someone else finally feels my pain. I don't harass the heck out of my friends with burners and find cute, yet very different outfits, to go with music that most people have never heard that always make me money onstage- to come into work and see the fattest girl in the club, who also happens to be laziest on stage, dancing to the same song, and giving people negative vibes to it. Customers associate certain music and songs with certain girls so having ms.fat ass dance to MY song does make me upset.
If its on the radio fine, if its on the CD fine, if its the import version from china and not even in english and i go get it and dance to it and nobody even knows what they're saying and it sounds cool its not fine, it is mine and I will never bring the CD back or erase it off the computer if the DJ has the nerve to upload into the club computer. A DJ did that to me with one entire fifteen song custom mix import cd and with 7-10 other songs that nobody ever heard before by people they never heard of that are now regularly played at my club. Real Life is not fair, fortunately strip clubs operate in their own realm of alternate reality where I do have some choice over what I wear and dance to.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I too, can feel your pain from the dj's point of view. Not only do i spin, but I also create cutom mixes for the girls. Nothing is more irritating than to find out that the mix I worked hard to make for a girl has been ripped and passed on to many clubs. These things take time effort and not to blow my own horn...talent.
Usually it is a drive-by dancer with a low life b/f that does it. She's in the club for a short while and makes off with a cd or two and next thing I know the local dance clubs are playing my mixes. Do I get pissy about it? Hell yeah I do! A lot of these ladies I've worked with put a lot of effort to create their persona. They have a certain feel about them on stage and want to make the tips just any other dancer there. Then to turn around and find that the teen club down the street is playing HER mix pisses me off.
Luckily, the drive-by dancers aren't very common. It gets to be a real pain going through the effort only to have it walk off.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
OK I might get ridiculed but here is what it is...IMO....it's similar to being called a stripper(vs exotic dancer)...it's something we seem to care about when we only have been dancing for a year or two....but after some time goes on...we seem to realise (realiZe) that in this business...there are FAR WORSE things that can happen than being called a stripper vs. and exotic dancer or having someone else "steal" our music.....after time we realize that it doesn't matter...NOT ONE F-ing BIT....NOT AT ALL...what we should be more concerned with is cooperating together in this business...to be friendly with each other.... and supporting with a capital S each other in this business... check out the blue site...they don't give a flying F what music we play...FTMP I know it's a thing (I remember it) but let's all think...it's just better to not care since.....well.....what matters most is out female companions who understand us when we get into a tight spot......let's not fight about music....RIGHT???
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I don't know why girls are so 'understanding' just because it's a newbie ripping off your stuff. Believe me, they understand it's not cool to steal your music just as easily as they understand it's not cool to steal your outfits. Obviously this is a major pet peeve of mine. Particularly since I go to the trouble of burning my CDs, and the ONLY way these bitches can get my songs is to go to the trouble of snaking them in the DJ booth to get the titles or to flat out steal my CDs. Since when are we supposed to let that shit slide just because she may or may not be a newbie? Trust me, they know better. If they didn't, they'd just come straight to me and ask what the song is, but instead they go behind my back and try to get it. This is why I don't label my CDs anymore. And of course when I move and get to a club where they use computers in the booth, I know I'm gonna have to be extra careful with my stuff. I have had a DJ load my stuff on the computer before, and yes I'll be majorly pissed if some asshole shit-for-brains DJ does that and then proceeds to play it for anybody.
:soapbox:
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Obviouly there is a lot of "other things' going on such as being "snakey in the DJ booths' ...;and yeah as a dancer of 10 years I agree...there are plenty of B-eeeee-atches who don't deserve our respect on this manner... my response was to be taken only on the account that I have been blamed and myself been PISSED about a song being "stolen" only when it was on account of "pissing on a fire hydrant" if you get my meaning ----(as in "stealing someone's regular----) It's an annoyance...but it;s now a big business...and my point was that we shouldn't care about the small stuff...blah blah :P
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Well, yes, there comes a time to blow off the small stuff, and I have had to mercilessly settle a lot of stupid screaming matches over who was entitled to MY song. There are more important things in life.
BUT, if you have spent a lot of time researching (or as in bdoc's case, mixing) something, only to have some ingrate spend all of five seconds effort to ask the asshole DJ to play it, you have every right to be righteously pissed! The DJ is ultimately to blame in most of these situations.
Particularly in Yelle's case: "I had to pay him $20 to stop playing my CDs. I still am not sure if he plays them even when I am not there..."
That guy should be strung up by his testicles, right alongside the one who makes fart noises.
I could say more, but I made a resolution to shut the fuck up about dancers as artists and, well--to just shut up. So I will.
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I've got every right to be peeved because it's not just one or two songs, it's practically all of them! I'd estimate that 90% of my music gets no radio play but like I said earlier, it's my own fault because we were hanging out and she asked who the artist was and promised she only wanted it to dance to at her home club out of state. More and more frequently I walk into work and hear one of "my" songs and I'm just like UGH! I did get a good laugh tonight because girls are rolling their eyes saying "Is she playing ALL of Saph's music?" hahaha. It's alright like I said I burned a bunch of new stuff and will probably work on "Bitches Get Your Own Music Vol. II" tomorrow. (and yes I really did write that on my cd)
-
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
If you are lucky you actually have a DJ who can read and he might get the hint as well...

I dont know if this comment was directed at me, but I will say this... I dont mean a song that I have gone out of my way to burn; if a newbuie steals that then I will be pissed off like crazy, but if its a song I use a lot, but its not mine and the dj doesnt even know it, thenI cant really be mad. Ir lets say you and the newbie both have a cd burned with a specific song...then its technically not stealing, but would still PISS me off. LOL I dont know, its odd...

Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I totally agree with CassidyKarma!!! It is a bit silly if you really think about it. Let's think about making money and hustling. Some say it doesnt matter how you dance or what you listen to it's how you hustle.. :P

ok, not to get into an argument, but what you listen to and dance to IS part of your business. I've seen far too many with the I-don't care-what-ya-play attitudes on stage. Those are the ones that don't dance, but complain about not getting tipped.
If a lady is going to go through the extra effort to put her act together then she should be tipped for her efforts. To have somebody come in and steal the thunder because she is lazy is not right at all and I don't play a part in it. Just like I don't want my work to go somewhere else, I wouldn't want to help do that to somebody else.
