Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Girls, I'm not at all trying to get into an argument. Just trying to clarify why I am so protective of my music and irritated at lazyass bitches trying to steal it. Like Sapphire, my music is NOT the stuff you hear on the radio or see on MTV. No one at the club ever heard of 95% of the stuff I bring in, including the DJs. So when someone else starts dancing to it, you bet I'm gonna get pissed because that bitch was just trying to get me to tell her what it was last week! If I used common commercial stuff, of course I wouldn't get riled about another girl dancing to it.
Yeah, I am really laid back and I don't get my panties in a wad about small things, but when it comes to some lazyass bitch stealing my show, damn right I'm gonna have something to say. I don't spend all that time searching for stuff that fits my style and coming up with my own thing for nothing. At my club, a large part of the hustle is the stage performance. When I go on stage I'm doing my OWN show, not someone else's - is it too much to ask that other girls come up with THEIR own? Of course, in larger clubs I don't even go on stage if I can get out of it, and if I have to go on stage in a larger club, I'm not nearly as concerned because stage isn't as important and I don't put as much effort into it in those clubs. But where I am now, it is a huge focus and your music can mean the difference between mediocre and great tips.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I guess most of the ladies at my club are pretty respectful. I always have people coming up and asking if they can play "my" songs. Unless I was planning to play it the next set or something, I don't care. They're not "my" songs, I didn't write them.
I usually don't really have a desire to play anyone else's music. I guess I'm kind of a music snob that way.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I think once you've traveled around to different clubs like me you get tired of fighting over your music.dance to a song like you own it or you actually picked it. :DI try to get into it and make the people believe that, thats my song even though I didn't even pick it. Yes I do request songs some times but you just get so tired of dealing with all the girls stealing "your" music, dj's or other girls stealing your cd's, and having to just plain out deal with it. :-\ I don't just effortlesly wonder on stage and act like I don't care! I make it MY song! Now that starts to make the job alot easier. :-*
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I've travelled alot too. As I stated, my attitude toward the whole thing mainly depends on the club. I happen to be in a club where it matters now. I'm moving soon, so maybe that will change. I'll see when I get there but I'm a bit weary.

I'm with Anais on this totally. Most girls ask if they can play one of my cd's. And I don't care unless I was going to play it. In fact, I like hearing my music. But who the hell goes out and buys ALL the cd's of the music you play and then starts playing ALL the songs you play? That's just...creepy.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
thankfully, my DJ is wonderful to me. he and i get along really well. he knows that i have certain sets that are my major money making sets, so he never plays any of those songs for anyone else. then again, the girls at my club are so different. we have girls that dance to hip hop, pop, metal, classic rock, and plain out rock. so none of us really like the other music. which works out really well. and some of my music, is great for me to make money on (like sweet home alabama) but no one else will touch that song. lol.

after time we realize that it doesn't matter...NOT ONE F-ing BIT....NOT AT ALL... check out the blue site...they don't give a flying F what music we play....it's just better to not care
No offense to anyone, especially the girl with the big bouncy breasteses but...
My sentiments exactly. I can't help but laugh when people illegally download songs and rip CD's then get mad when someone copies them!
In fact, when someone lifts my music I take it as a compliment to my cutting edge impeccable taste. In addition, my s/o works in the music industry so there is one CD in particular I WANT to generate buzz. I want other girls to love it and want to play it, in hopes they will buy (not file share) the CD.
Then there is the DJ who refuses to play hip-hop like Eminem or 50 Cent, even now! The more girls who clamor for their songs the happier I am and I am ALWAYS glad to lend my original version of "The Eminem Show" to any girl who wants to play it.
Forgot your CD's? Unless you're a really uptight square type, you can always borrow mine. Just don't play the same songs I'm playing that night.
I never, ever leave my CD's with the DJ. I give him the CD before my set and pick it up right after my set. As a 'drive-by dancer' I cannot afford to trust my music to whatever club I happen to be in that night. I'm not so worried about them copying my music as I am worried about them outright stealing my CD's.
I guess I don't put that much effort into finding songs. I am always coming across songs I love and want to dance to, usually outside the club. It's effortless. Since I don't invest much time and effort in the music thing I don't feel ripped off.
Which is a great relief because the less I have to worry about the better I feel, and the better I feel the better I look. The better I look the more money I make and my confidence shoots up as the dollars stack up. After awhile I just don't care about anything or anyone except that fellow laying down the hundies.
At that point, you could play commercial jingles and I wouldn't even notice...
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I haven't read any of this thread yet (I will in a few minutes) but I just had to say that the second I saw the title, I burst out laughing--that is too funny!
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
oh none taken. And I realize the thread has kinda taken a different spin than what I originally meant so I'll reiterate:
I play girly, poppy, snobby electronica. Shit that nobody else ever even heard or heard of. When somebody would ask "can I play...?" I'd say yeah it's in my cd case track number whatever go ahead and grab it.
The fact that one girl ran out and bought the exact CD's and plays the exact tracks that I play, that's not flattering, it's annoying and creepy.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Maybe she is trying to be considerate and not want to bug you about borrowing it every time she wants to play it?
There was this one girl who used to always borrow my Nate Dogg CD to the point where I was about to burn it for her. I wished she would go buy the thing! She did play different tracks though.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
I doubt it because she practically begged me for the artist name along with a promise she'd never play it only wanted it for her home club out of state. Now I walk into work hearing these songs. She's even "borrowed" my theme sets. I thought she was my friend.
Of course this is the same "friend" who embarressed me in front of my friends (whom I just introduced her to) at a party by exclaiming she didn't like my boobs and that a good surgeon could have fixed my "problem" (She has big natchies)
Oh well. I am flattered because everybody is trippin' that she's playing "my" stuff. Everybody knows I brought all that dope shit into the club anyhow.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Wow, what an odd duck she seems to be. Stuff like that is why I rarely befriend strippers. Never know what they're gonna do.
Likes...saph's....boobies....*hypnotized* :o
You ARE the dope shit girl!
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
In the case of mainstream music that every club in the country is playing every night, like 50cent or Eminem, well, who cares, is right! Noone can claim that, and noone should.
But when you have distinctive music that noone else has the balls or imagination to play, until they see how well you can make it work, it's a little different. It is sure as hell understandable to get pissed off when someone copies your CD without the courtesy of even asking permission.
DJs are always stealing lines and "stealing" songs that they don't have the imagination to think of themselves. I usually just laugh when one steals a line I made up. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Stealing music is a little more serious. I used to leave some of my CDs for the lame-ass guys I worked with who didn't have enough music of their own, until too many went missing, and my asshole manager started taking it for granted. Never again. And I wasn't stupid enough to leave the really good shit--that's like cutting your own throat.
Women like shedevil4260 are always great to work with, and she is right on the money, literally, when she makes every song played when she is onstage, her song. My job would be so much easier if more dancers were like her! But most dancers are not so fortunate, or so versatile.
And there are some dancers who do so well with their own specially selected songs (and I'm not talking about 50cent, here) that to use the same music for someone else would not only be rude, but stupid as well.
If it's my music, I watch for how well the dancer uses the song to captivate the audience. If she does that better than anyone else, it's her fucking song. It would be stupid for me as a DJ to do otherwise--I want the customers' undivided attention on the stage.

Once upon a time it took balls and imagination to play 50 and Eminem. They did not spring fully fledged into mainstream. As I mentioned earlier, I still deal with DJ's who refuse to play them.
In the end if you play cool music people will copy it. If you do a cool dance move girls will copy it. If you find a neat pair of glowing shoes girls will run out and buy them. Being copied is a sign of success as well as a sign to move on to the next hot thing.
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Sapphire that is pretty weird about that chic and the cd thing!! Weird... And thank you for the compliment Djoser. That was a compliment right...? lol ;)

A sign of success? I dont know but it would still PISS me off if I went through the trouble of finding some cool music and then have some little chick copy it... (being when its something NO ONE has ever played at my club) Yes, even if the music is file shared, or bought, makes no difference to me.
I do find it odd though, if someone did to me, what they did to Sapphire (begging to get the same music, promise not to use it, and THEN buy them and use them at the same club)
Re:"Bitches get your own music" Vol. I
Heh, where I come from, when a girl does what Sapphire described, we call that a backstabbing bitch! 'Weird' is just toooooo mild...
