R-Rated Pose for Rock Album Cover?
We're serious pro musicians who will be finishing up our debut album in a couple of months. Our influences are Curve (we've got a similar female lead vocal) and Pink Floyd.
We've done a mockup w/ a stand-in model (the lead vocalist) of our proposed album cover (which relates to the dark theme of the album). She's completely nude but lays chest-down and in a non-sexual pose, with some fake blood splatters and a pool of fake blood in the foreground. There IS a point to it... not just gratuitous horror-eroticism for the sake of it. The album is about a girl we know who went bezerk in a love triangle and brutally butchered the other 2 (one of whom was a stripper BTW). She was nude when she killed them.
Our stand-in vocalist is quite pretty, but it really doesn't make sense that it's HER on the cover -- it would be like having Roger Waters on The Wall cover when everyone knows Pink was Syd Barrett.
So we're going to find a model to pose instead. Among other options, we've seen some very pretty girl-next-door type strippers at local clubs and thought about asking if they're interested.
What better place to educate ourselves than right here?
Q: What would be a FAIR rate for such a photo? Again, there's nudity but it's non-sexual. We figure the shoot might take an hour. And the resulting shot is something the dancer could have for her legitimate modeling portfolio. We might also do a second photo (also non-sexual) for our web site.
Q: Is there anything we can offer to set the model's mind at ease that this is 100% legit? We live in a suburban neighborhood and the band is all 30+ (not some dopey kids fantasizing that we'll get laid). Our photographer is a woman too. YES, we could go through an agency but we'd rather pay the model direct vs. her needing to pay a cut to a middleman.
Q: Is it taboo to discuss something like this with perspective dancers at a club? Are there contractual restrictions against such solicitations? We don't want to get the dancer (nor ourselves) in any trouble for discussing it. (I imagine we'd discuss it in leiu of a private dance, but we'll pay for her time.)
Our photographer is also an artist and might have a friend willing to pose, and we're considering just doing artwork instead ... but we wanted to explore our options.
Thanks ladies!
(Maybe we'll even post a link to the web site when the album is ready. There are several songs that would be awesome to dance to.)
Re:R-Rated Pose for Rock Album Cover?
You shouldn't have any problems at the club just for talking to girls about a potential modeling job. Hell, we get alot worse propositions than that and management doesn't give a damn! If you're looking for a model to pose for an album cover and willing to pay her for it, I don't see that you'd have much problem with the girls. Of course keep in mind that many of us often get hit up for supposed modeling jobs, most of which are BS. I should think that if you spot a girl you like, tip her a few bucks for her time, tell her you'll pay her $X for the shoot (describe it a bit) plus give her copies for a portfolio and give her your business card, you should get a decent response. I don't know your area so I can't begin to guess an approporiate amount for something like that, but the first number that comes to mind is $200 flat for an hour or two of modeling. It's enough to be interesting to a stripper yet not overly expensive.

I also suggest sending a woman to do the scouting....less fishy, from the dancer's POV.
