Body Language.....
I have read enough about "sales" so that isn't a problem :).. I now want to be able to "read" people in a room whilst I am on stage or even just on the floor. I have had a discussion about this with someone I respect and I agreed that my one weakness preventing me from really starting to make the big dollars is that I'm not so great at reading body language .... hence this post.
;D I am after recommendations of books and videos that will teach me the fundamentals of body language as well as others that go into more depth about it.. as in I'm after Body Language 101 and 202 books, videos, websites.. etc. ;D
I appreciate the help :D ;D 8) :boobies: :detective:

Re:Body Language.....
Some body language things I have heard over the years:
Crossed arms = closed off, stay away
tilted head = flirting, interested (particular to women)
body angled or leaning toward you = interested
away= disinterested
legs crossed toward him = interested
legs crossed away + uninterested
hand covering mouth when speaking = hiding something
biting lips after /during speaking = lying
That's all I can remember right now-great subject 8)

Re:Body Language.....
Sometimes, particularly when on stage, it is difficult so see several detalils of customer's body languaje (BTW, I agree completely with Rayanna).
I usually, try to see who the guys are watching at, not only in stage, but also on the floor. Most of tips given by Rayanna become evident when you are approaching their table.

Re:Body Language.....
I have done a search for "non-verbal communication" and "body language" web sites/pages in re: reading and interpreting....
I posted the list to my Yahoo Group if anyone is interested. I havn't visited any of the links listed... I will do so in the next few days.
From that list of links I'll then post the best ones (as appliciable as possible to exotic dancers) to this thread.

Re:Body Language.....
Boy i had to learn my share about body language at the hospital i work at, this has helped me, and failed me over the years.
Crossing of the arms, does look like not interested, but could mean the person is chilly. No eye contact could mean shy, but interested. And a mans leg pointing away from us while sitting could mean he does not want to intimidate, but is accepting us to take control.
These body postures don't always mean what we think. Pay MORE attention to the words coming out of the mouth, and act on that.
No, means no. Maybe means, come hit me up again, (most times) and yes, is simple!
The thing with body language is, most of us are unaware of what we are doing with our posture. To some leaning over the table while talking is very intimidating. Others love it!
Some don't like direct eye contact, but prefer to look away or down at times while we talk. Just watch for a smile, and words with this behaviour mainly.

Re:Body Language.....
I smile and see if they smile back. I skip the guessplay and see if they will play thumb war with me ;D
Men in Houston kinda shake their heads if you approach and they don't want you.

Re:Body Language.....
I got to study this in psychology and as interesting as it is, I agree with Pamela....usually if someone is interested in you you will be able to tell in like 30 seconds of a conversation. Words must be taken into account as well as their body language. When a customer seems boring, bored or uninterested I make a run for it!!!

Re:Body Language.....
I was more interested in body language so that I could scan the room and hone in on those who are more "sure bets" than others.
I like to use the quality approach more the quanitity. I would rather "pre-qualify my leads" (by viewing their body language before-hand) and go with those that are warm to hot than just approach anyone.

Re:Body Language.....
I am not a dancer but I think this would be useful to all of you that are.
Try Looking at your customer in the eye as long as it would take to figure out there eye color. Then you will know if they are interested it you and wanting to spend more time / money on you.
Nothing tricky about that it takes 3 sec and it works.

Re:Body Language.....
I'm going thru "Body Language" by Allan Pease. I'll be adding to this thread with questions and information... ;)
"...sales trainees are told that it is better to wait for the other person to intiate the handshake and, if it is not forthcoming, to nod as a sign of greeting."
Do you initiate the handshake.. ??? Do you think it would be best if a dancer waited for a handshake to be initiated when introducing herself ??? :-\
Personally I've initiated the handshake most of the time and hence have been caught out on the odd occasion when the other person won't join in.. kinda embarressing :-[. I'm going to now try to NOT initiate the handshake and see how I go... ;)
Something else mentioned...
"Salespeople are often taught to look for the customer's exposed palms when he gives valid reasons why he cannot buy the product, because only valid reasons are given with exposed palms"
What has been your experiences with this or havn't you noticed it so much ???
I know that body language is communicated mainly in clusters... "like any language, body language consists of words, sentences and punctuation. Each gesture is like a single word and a word may have several different meanings. It is only when you put the word into a sentence with other words that you can fully understand its meaning."
;D I'm learning... I have my P plates. I just want to be more perceptive to people and maybe even be able to work on my own body language so that I'm perceived as welcoming and friendly (besides the obvious smile).
