Oh my goodness. In the name of "research," I watched "Showgirls" last night. That's 2 hours of my life I'll never see again. I was motivated to watch this one-star movie for three reasons: a) in hopes of picking up a few new moves; b) being bi, I like to see images of gay/bi girls in movies (HELLO Gina Gershon); c) plain old curiosity. I was thirteen in 1995 when it came out in theaters, and the publicity surrounding its release ever since.
I'm going to side-step the whole acting/writing/plot bashing (because I admit: it was so bad it was entertaining), and go straight to it: the dancing was awful! So unsexy! Who on earth could possibly get turned on watching Elizabeth Berkeley writhe around like that? And the lap-dance she gave was so intense, it looked painful. I hope none of you girls treats her body that way, banging it around against the customers and the furniture. OUCH!!!
I am a stripper who loves strippers. We are mesmerizingly beautiful and I am proud to be included in the ranks. Watching "Showgirls" made me wonder who on earth made money of the choreography, because the dances were as unsexy as sex work can be. Who knew dancing naked girls could be so unattractive?
