Was In It To Win It But....
I did it... I entered the amateur contest at Platinum Plus here in my hometown. Too bad I was the only amateur :banghead:... The girl who won first, works there, the second girl was from another Platinum Plus in Columbia, and the girl who got the most votes only won third (because of the girls who already worked for PP):loco:. So there I was standing on stage, pissed but what can I do:noidea:...While I was going back to change into my street clothes... these dancers came up to me and where like..."you should have known you wouldnt have won hun, you were the only black bitch up there." WHAT?:toldoff::beat:...anywho I left pretty upset... my boyfriend tried to make me feel better... which I did the next day. I thought about going back next thursday night but I realized that there is no point. I will go to other amatuer contest... it will pay off eventually..next club here I come:bouncey:
:thanx: for listening! BYE!!!

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
Man there seems to be a lot of threads on here regarding race and racism lately!
..."you should have known you wouldnt have won hun, you were the only black bitch up there ..... WTF! Man i thank the lord that he me made me the way he did otherwise i would actually care about what these ignorant pigs think.... instead i have to laugh.
Wow Polekitten i am so sorry to hear that sweetie..... I'm glad you are not letting this deter you from carrying on with the contests, keep your head up sista!.....btw i hear those things are rigged anyway.
Seraya.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
What a crappy thing for them to say to you, Polekitten! I try to stay out of race-related threads, but, this totally makes my blood boil. Their comment was unnecessary! It makes me sick that after all these years, people are still so damn ignorant. I consider myself color-blind, I don't care if a person's white, black, purple, green, or so on. I like you until you personally give me a reason not to. I probably wouldn't have been able to restrain myself from "responding" to their comments, and I give you credit that you did hon.
Definitely keep trying amateur contests at other clubs. Hopefully the others will not share the same mentality that the idiots at that club did. Keep trying, sweetie. You'll get one!

Go for it PoleKitten. Dont let anyone discourage you.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
hey girl! are you in SC by any chance? i am in NC...and we go to the PP in Greenville all the time for a fun night out. Let me know when you are going to enter another contest...and I will bring everyone down to be a cheering section for you! it always helps to have a really loud cheering section that is paying money to other girls working there! don't let it get you down....
-
Re:Was In It To Win It But....
Damn I am in shock..I have worked in clubs that offer an amatuer night in bring in customers. Its really not uncommon for house dancers or dancers from sister clubs to enter. Especially if there aren't enough actual amatuer entries.
I agree with Emilybelle's idea about bringing supporters with you to cheer you on. I wouldn't let the "haters" and their words bring you down, use them as fuel to feed your desire to be the best dancer you can be. Practice your dance moves, get your dancer gear together, make sure your look is refined from head to toe. Then when you do get hired, be sure to really clean up just to rub their faces in it.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
The race comment was not only obnoxious, but doesn't even make sence in the context. May I remind everyone that the 2003 Miss America is black and that two other winners in the 90s were also black? Odd how they managed to win and yet they were probably only one of a few other black women on that stage. The "you didn't win because you are black" comment is so insane words cannot even describe. That's the ignorance of some people though. Keep at it PoleKitten. You'll win one of the contests yet, and when you do, you know you'll be able to have the last laugh.
-
Re:Was In It To Win It But....
PoleKitten, dont let the ignorant little girls get to you. You should have said, "Actually I thought I WOULD win since, well, IIIIIIIII am an amateur...not a stripper" or something like that.
Sorry to hear you had to endure that sh*t. People are nasty.
-
Re:Was In It To Win It But....
As horrible as it is that someone said that to you.... people really are jerks in this buisness and you have to be able to roll with the punches....WHICH IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE DOING..... you're attitude is awesome...and it will take you farther than any other attribute will in this buisness. Besides that... it's pretty pathetic that they let people that aren't amatures compete....To hell with em'!!!!

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
As a white dancer I may not be the best person to reply to your post but I will anyway.
My take on the situation: the girls somehow noticed that you were bothered by losing the contest. Knowing you are upset and taking things to heart is blood in the water to bitchy dancers. It's almost a sport to torment sensitive newbies.
This is especially true if those dancers were in a bad mood which they probably were. (Why? It's likely they didn't want to work amatuer night since it's usually on a shitty night.) If the girl who made that remark is from another club she also figures she won't have to work with you very often if at all.
As a brunette I am leery of places with gold or platinum in the name since I'm not a blond. I know not everyone who works in a club with that in the name is blond but it still makes me uneasy. It's like working in a place called DD's or something when I clearly am a B.
I am curious why you keep doing amatuer night. Can't you find a club that doesn't make you do that? I have never done amatuer night myself and don't plan to. It's usually a just a gimmicky cheering competition and a popularity contest - not a real amatuer test.

Im not an exotic dancer (yet)... this was the first time i had ever been on stage. I was particpating in order to get used to taking my clothes of in front of people. I did it I accomplished what I came to do. Winning would have been nice...but no one can be the best at everything. I will continue to do amateur contest because I need to be on stage as possible until I find a club in Greenville, that I feel good about. (Diamonds Show Club Closed Down :crying:!)
Btw....Thanks Emily... you are are a sweetheart..but it doesnt hurt that youre hott!!!
Thanks to everyone... I just wanted to vent. Oh and I hope to have a pic up soon so everyone can see what I look like.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
I asked one of the girls at the last strip club I was at about their amateur night (considering going into exotic dance, plus, it'd just be a kick), she was like "Your hot and all, but don't bother. You don't stand a chance. Girls from all the other clubs come down and enter the amateur contest here. I've worked almost every amateur night, and never seen a real amateur."
She told me to arrange to come in on a slow day (she said Sunday was a great choice), and that they'd let me on the stage, and to do my thang then...

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
At our amateur contest, there is rarely other amateurs and it really pisses me off! Why do they even call it that if its always a bunch of snotty girls from other clubs trying to take money from under the real amateurs that actually want to work there?
Honey, I'm so sorry that happened to you! Don't let some ignorant bitch bring you down!
Good Luck!

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
Some clubs make new dancers audition on amatuer night even though they are not new to dancing. I skip those clubs. It seems like amatuer night is often on a slow night like a monday or tuesday and the club is trying to pull in a crowd.
If I were a novice dancer I would definitely prefer to start work on a nice mellow day shift or a Sunday night. The last thing I would want to do is subject myself to a cheering contest by a bunch of drunk, bad tipping monkeys :headache:

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
weird! My club's amatuer night has girls struggling out of jeans and such, quite newbies! :P
Anyway! They suck! Go to a different place and kick ass!

I remember when I did my first amateur contest, 10 girls and I was the only amateur. I didn't even place. I went home pissed (amateur contest??). I practiced a bit and then went back a month later for another amateur contest...and placed 2nd...again, I was the only amateur. I made sure to bring a bigger cheering section, but there were lots of people cheering for me that I didn't even know. Also, there were more people coming up to the stage while I was on it, than for any of the other girls.
Confidence is a biggie. If you look and feel confident, then you'll do fine.
In your case, I would go in on a slower day and see if I could audition then. You don't need to keep going to amateur contests to get practice...besides, that can be kinda costly for your bf. :)
Just go to a club and get hired...you'll get all of your experience while making money.
And tell those girls to shove it. I cannot believe how far we've come technologically, and yet we still have people who think its the 40's. Sad.
**Edited to say: I think they should stop calling it "Amateur contest" and start calling it "The Non-employee contest"...or even "This is our slow night and we need more people contest".

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
That really sucks and I'm sorry to hear that happened to you.
My guess is it actually had less to do with the fact that you're black and more to do with the fact that a lot of "amateur contests" are totally fixed and real amateurs don't stand a chance. That was the way it was at my first contest--7 girls and I was the only amateur. Needless to say, I did not place. I did, however, get offered a job, which was the main thing. And my guess is you can get a job too--if not at this club, then at another. My advice is forget about the stupid contests and get used to dancing by just doing it.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
Whenever someone puts you down baby just smile and put it right back out with confidence!
"yea i was the best bitch out there!"
"yea they loved this black ass...they wanted it!"
How can a house girl enter a contest...it's for people who don't work there.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
Just go to another club and get hired for real on the spot....stripping isn't about doing a great stage show anyway, its about working the crowd for those lapdances..meow!

So true, katrine, and thisis probably the one thing that surprises newbie dancers hte most....that you don't really have to know how to dance to be a good dancer!

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that love. It's a damn shame that we live in such a society that is still hung up on race. F*** that club! Had you started working there, you would've jsut had a bunch of problems anyway! They are just jealous of your beauty and talent.
Quick question...Do they have ANY woman of colour dancers there? If not, then I see why. WE would be "TO MUCH COMPETITION" for them hahahah. It's good to have variety..everyone knows that. The problem that lies with this is that variety sparks curiosity...If you are the only black woman there, then you would BANK! Alot of my friends who are black only work at white clubs. They make a great deal of money (not only because they are kick ass dancers) because the idea of Ebony/Ivory is so taboo..espeically on whereever you are in this country.
I hope you take this experience with a grain of salt. Keep on moving. You will find better love.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
You probably had them scared out of their wits, which of course suggests that there was definitely some jealousy there. Jealousy causes people to say some really pathetic things. The girl that said that obviously hated HERSELF. Also, yes, those amateur contests are nothing more than popularity contests--strictly dependant on who you know and not what you know.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
OMG that's was so rude and so [email protected] up! I'm so sorry to hear your first (or thousanth) experience was like that. :o
It doesn't quite seem right that they allowed someone who works there to even be in the contest, but the clubs can be shady, ya know? But I find what that girl said to you to be horrifying. It sounds like she felt threatened by the competition you presented to her....some girls are like that.

Re:Was In It To Win It But....
I don't think amateur contests are rigged, so much as easily won by bringing people in with you to cheer for ya while you're doing the contest. I was actually at Platinum Plus in Greenville last Saturday and saw their "Bare as you Dare Contest" The girls who placed 2nd and 3rd were definitely real amateurs.
