Bleach Ass Blonde
I love having the Pamela Anderson - butter, platinum hair...but I can't keep it healthy.
The hair dressers tell me that getting it done in a salon is healthier for the hair than store bought brands because of ph or chemicals or something, but I don't believe that. I think they just want my $
I usually do it at home with Preference and touch up my roots often. But my hair always gets brassy, yellow-orange, or dull and multi-colored.
What brands of at home hair color do you girls like? Any fav. hairsprays? What about high lights or low lights? What about hair health? I've read Mayo on this site before, but don't want to try that. Smells like BO.
Please, all you platinum blondes with thick
heads of hair, lend your advice.

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
It was gynger and i who posted about the mayo conditioning treatment and girl ......IT WORKS!!!!!!! if you aren't keen on it, use egg mixed with a deep conditioning treatment.
I have bleached hair and this keeps it healthy i also use a texturizer on my hair to loosen my curls and ppl including hair stylists can never understand how my hair keeps so strong, long and healthy..... but that is my secret.... EGG and deep conditioning.
Now personally i think that you should get your blonde colour done at a salon.... I have high-lighted hair which is blonde and copper/auburn with different browns. The copper/auburn/browns i have in my hair is actually bleached..... ( you know the colour before your hair goes orange then blonde when bleaching) and this is i do myself but when it comes to the blonde ( which i have very light because i have dark skin and i don't want no ghetto tacky blonde look ) i have done that done at the salon. I pay $150 for my few strips of blonde but they are a top salon ( tony & guy ) ... and its amazing what a great professional blowdry can do.
I see too many women with bleached blonde hair which looks yellow/orange/brassy/trashy because they dont use a toner or blonde COLOUR. "Bleach" should be used to lighten the hair not used as a dye or colour imo.
Overall CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION i cant STRESS this enough!!!! Also dont use alcohol based products and try vitamin E, it great for the hair.
Seraya.
Ps . dont forget to have your hair trimmed on the regs

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
I have Pammy Anderson Blonde hair and I haven't been to a salon in years! My hair is really long and healthy, too. I use Herbal Essenses Bleach blonding as my first choice, and Feria as my second. The trick to keeping it healthy is to only bleach the roots, keep the stuff off your ends or you'll fry it! My natural color is brunette, and for me those products work well enough to turn my brown roots blonde in one application, in the recommended time on the package. Not a touch of orange or brassiness.
After bleaching, conditioner is so important. I use Biolage conditioning balm. The stuff is awesome! With hair down to my waist tangles are a problem, but it combs out perfectly smooth after I use that stuff.

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
Biolage conditioning balm is da bomb! I use it too Mariah...and Feria has a new honey light brown shiny color which is beautiful!!
I also use Brocato's Blonde Glow and Blonde Shimmer Spray with Glitter in it...awesome shine, but don't use the glitter spray when working @ the club...the married guys don't like it....
If you want to go allover really blonde, you should first as least go to the salon and get alloverfoil highlights...mine cost $90 minus tip. The foils are good because they take small sections of hair and saturate with bleach, preventing brasiness because all the hairs will be covered. With this type of coloring, I was able to achieve very nice light blonde in a single process...
A second process is nice for brasiness but increases damage even further. If your hair is not thick and strong to begin with, its going to get worse and worse, even if you heavily condition, trim it often, and do not recolor the bleached part....that is just genetics...mine got really stringy and crappy eventually, and I had to cut it to my chin...now I just do a few of my own highlights around face...cheaper and less damage..
Good luck!

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
I have fairly healthy, bleach blonde/white(Gwen Stefani's color)and i have done my own for 15 years!
I use WELLA SPEEDLIGHT BLEACH with 20 or 30 volume peroxide
WELLA toners(these take out brassy tones) mix of 'white lady'(1 bottle) and 1/2 bottle 'baroness beige'.
I use KERITIN based ETHNIC products--cholesterol conditioner with ginsing--ALLWAYS brand leave-in conditioner, contains HEMP and OLIVE OIL.
You can have beautiful hair WITHOUT the SALON...you just have to know what products really work. Keritin is one of the few things that can actually be ABSORBED into the hair.
*avoid Panteen products like the plague!

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
You may also have hard water...you might want to check into that. I had my blonde hair for a while, and got it done professionally at the salon. At the time, I didn't know I had hard water. A few weeks after having my hair done, it would start turning brassy and orange. VERY annoying. I finally got special shampoo that would counteract that. I also would pull my hair up into a shower cap while I showered and used bottled water to wash my hair. It was a real pain in the ass but it worked. Never-the-less, I went back to my normal color (chestnut brown)...LOL

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
One thing to remember...Unless you have 15 or so extensions that are white, platinum and kinda dull blonde mixed in with your hair, you can't have Pam Anderson hair. She has many extensions put in for shoots. Have you seen her on Howard Stern last week? Her hair had roots coming in, it is a tad past her shoulders, and was curled for volume, said she even did her own makeup. I swear i did not know it was her for a few seconds!!!!!
Have you seen "sneak Peaks" in magazines? Yep...Look at the hair.
They glam the hair for mags. and movies. Howard Stern was rare i thought. Wow! Not ugly at all, just very normal looking.
TO get her hair, you need different blond colours all over the head. Around the face she has the lightest, almost white. Her roote are a pale yellow at this moment.
Look at the new issue of Jane mag. She is loaded with extensions, and makeup. Go all platinum you will have Monroe's hair. Very white all over.
Good luck,
Pamela

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
well i did it. i screwed my hair.(its not THAT BAD)
I originally had two colors in my hair, on top blonde, on bottom, kinda darkish brown. So i dont want to spend 200 on a salon right now. i figured i would risk it. first i used maxi blonde, to take out the color. right now it is blonde, with light light brown underneith, it looks alright but has just a subtle hint of orange brassiness.
My question is, I also bought some loreal open blonde lightening type of thing. Should I just say screw it and use it as I had originally planned. Do any of you think that it will take that whole yellow color out?
Please help, working tonight......

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
I'm too scared to dye my hair! It looks so tough but as afro hair goes, normally the tougher it is to manage, the weaker it is. So I tend to use extensions for a change in colour and length. That is always an alternative if you want to rest your hair from lots of chemical products. You could have them braided at the root only and left straight all the way down or have them weaved in to the same effect. Remember that extensions dont have to be used for the length, but if you want fuller hair, they are great for that too!
Just another option. Good luck!

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
Joey, be very careful if you just recently dyed your hair. You don't want to do it again right away or you'll damage it. I would wait 2 weeks and see how it looks. If it seems damaged go to a salon for professional repairs. If it seems alright, I would call the number on the package and ask for advice. They will tell you the proper procedure in your situation.
Another note on bleaching and staying healthy-- one thing I do is wait as many days as I can with out washing my hair. After about 3 days of natural oils built up, I then color the roots only. The oil in your hair will help protect it.

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
You could also try Paul Mitchell or Redken color shampoos...the ones that have color dye in the shampoo that deposits temporary color in your hair. I used this when I had my hair blonde, as it would keep it from getting brassy between dye jobs. I would use the shampoo once or twice a week.
I swear, those two types of shampoos are some of the best products for maintaining color on your hair between salon visits. Now whenever I get my hair color, I try to get the matching shampoo to go with it to extend the color on my hair.
Sometimes I dye my hair myself (but never blonde, its too risky, any other color though is much safer). I've found that going to a beauty supply store and buying the dye there and mixing it yourself produces much better results then most brands bought in a regular store. Just make sure you read the instructions VERY carefully.

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
I use Arctec Naturals color depositing Shampoo..its the strongest and the best..helped take the brassiness out of my highlights when I did them myself...

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
Thanks for the tips ladies.
Well I did it.... It was definatly an emergency situation as I had to work last night. everything turned out okay, my hair didnt suffer TOO dramaticly. It still has a bit of an orange color to it, but that may be because I had dark brown undernieth and through some of it.
I really dont think I will be doing it again myself though. It always looks just a little bit too unatural and tacky for my taste. Unfortunatly.
I really HATE spending 2 bills everytime I want my hair done... hehe
And why is it that everytime you go to a salon for platinum blonde hair, they always try and talk you into getting partial highlights or some other thing....thats just not what YOU want? Ugh..call me jaded on salons! :)

Re:Bleach Ass Blonde
Since I asked my original question a few days ago I have made a few changes in my routine that have resulted in healthier hair:
I am a shower and bath addict, twice daily, so I only washed my hair once every other day. I just didn't get it wet, I still took a bath and a seperate shower like once a day.
I bought a redkin deep conditioner and it is amazing!!
I think I am going to try to buy my next dye from a beauty supply shop like someone suggested. I have heard its better and sometimes cheaper to do it that way.
My hair feels way different already, so I am going to keep it up. I am also going to get it thinned out a little, so it lays better and smoother with more volume on top.
Ok. I am going to try the mayo because you ladies recommended it so strongly. But I think I will only do it on my tips.
As for Pammy.... I know Pamela is right and my hair will never look like that. I will keep what you said about her in mind. Today I had a good hair day, so I am not stressing about the subject and what I wish I had.
