"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
http://home.netscape.com/
This is the head story on my Netscape homepage, with a photo of CHARLIZE THERON beside it.....PULEEEEEEEZE!!!
Here is the story:
http://channels.netscape.com/ns/celebrity/default.jsp
<vent>
Ok, ok, its just a stupid internet article, and I think Charlize is stunning and I like her as an actor, etc...But she is the LAST person to be the new curves girl poster child, she is slim and elegant like a runway model...NOT curvy like Beyonce or Carmen......bleh
</end vent> :soapbox:

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
HA!! seriously!! they might as well have a picture of Calista Flockhart next to it. :sarcastic:
and in this months W magazine where they have a cover that proclaims "Curves Ahead- the new Must Have Body" and inside there's numerous layouts featuring bone thin models...and in this months Vogue they have a "love your body" section, which is great, but again the same follow up layots with skinny skinny skinny girls...grrrr....i want someone like beyonce!!!
-
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
"waif is out" Ok fine. But then they say, "Love your body" but what if you are a NATURAL waif. (My sister being one. Shes 5'0 tall and 95 lbs) tiny little thing. She is small boned, and can eat like a beast but she doesnt gain any weight.
Anyway my point is, they should stress loving your body NO matter how it is. "waif" is out or "big butts are in"
wtf?
And I agree, Theron has NO curves, she is stunning and beautiful, but she has a model bod....not hips and an ass, or even boobs.
-
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
The Hollywood version of curves will never reflect what MOST women have. IMO, it doesn't even reflect what most men are attracted to. It's all bullshit. 'Love your body' is great advice. Love YOUR body! Take care of it, keep it healthy. Health is the most attractive physical trait of all.

Oh my god lexi., i always say the same thing.....
I think its great that we are now celebrating the "fuller figure" (thanx to the likes of j-lo and beyonce) but its annoying that it has become " the new way to be"...... why can't we just celebrate being women period.
Now women are complaining about not having bigger butts, thighs and child bearing hips ( check out the body business section for example ). Also the amount of men i hear these days talking about, not wanting a skinny women bla bla..... this is something which has always been apparent in the black community but now everybody wants a piece of juicy ass! and your not "womenly" enough if you don't have one.
When i was younger i used to get teased for having a "stick out bum" and wanted a smaller butt....but now i look at myself in the mirror and want it bigger! Its amazing how the media controls not only the way we view the world or other around us but also the way we view ourselves!
Seraya.

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
i've always been dogged and disrespected because i'm skinny...and it hurt my feelings...especially when they pulled the "you ain't a real sista'...you too skinny"...or...'most black women ain't skinny like you...must got some white in you somewhere'..bullshit...(i grew up in the chicagoland area)
people still make their comments...'you know...the brothers like a sista with a little junk-in-her-trunk'...or..."most black women aren't built like you"...and the media continues to state that most 'real women' aren't a size 2 (or 6)...
when i started to take care of my health...went veggie...started going to the gym...i went from a size 2 to a size 0...this is my genetics y'all...this is how God made me...and i get tired of people impling that i'm not a 'real woman' because of my size...get tired of the ugly remarks..."she ain't nothin' but a stick"...and i get tired of the cold shoulder (i say hello...get no response)...(i now live in tennessee)
so i say that...this is me...and i intend to stay this way...i'm close to being at my healthiest ever...and any one that doesn't like it...or has a problem with it...can kiss MY ass...
i refuse to let people make me feel like less of a woman 'cause i'm small...I know i'm not a little girl...and what I think of me is ALL that matters...
and i don't really give a fuck about what the men like (or don't like) too much these days....i do what pleases me
:bullwhip: :meditate:

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
the media. they like making people follow mindless trends. waif is out, now curves are in...wtf? this is a body we're talking about. Just when I thought that changing clothes so often was bad enough.
i'm sorry, but i stopped believing these types of fashion victim headlines yonks ago. I can't believe it's grown people who still come up with this crap. it's quite childish really. what is ALWAYS in is health and happiness. just look after yourself peeps and throw this bs out.

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
""We've hit a combination trend. Nobody wants bubble hips. From the front, you still want a boyish, slim-hipped silhouette," Athias says. "But from the side, you want to look like a woman with boobs and a juicy rear." "
screw that! gimme hips! they make my waist look smaller.
plus an advantage of hips to wanna be breeders: easier birthing (aka less pain and quicker recovery).

Totally like my story. For me...It seems like being a skinny blonde IS a horrible thing...and a great thing at the same time. The media shoves down our throats look like cameron diaz one week and then J'lo the next. WTF? I would NEVER want to look like J'lo..she's very pretty but in that "flashdance copycat video" you could see cellulite on her ass..Why would someone want that on purpose? I live in a state where at the most recent count.. 64% of the population is overweight or obese..seriously. I go to the store and I am usually the smallest adult in there. Women and Men stare at me like I have green hair or something. My weight has ALWAYS been the issue with just about anyone I have run into in my life. It ALWAYS gets mentioned at one time or another. I am a size 0 also at 5' 5" 104lbs. Even on stripper web I see bigger girls which is just about everyone unless your a 0..lol Talk about how "waifs" don't look good or how we look sick or who would want a stick..but then on the other hand write about how the men in the clubs just pick the "skinny blondes" This is totally confusing....If you look at my pics..I don't look sick..lol..I don't have an eating problem and never have. I have 4 kids too. I think people who are heavier don't realize that saying "Wow, don't you eat?" or "Hey Twiggy" IS rude! Being the size I am ...I COULD literally walk up to EVERY adult woman and say "Your a friggin fat ass" Two words hun "Jenny Craig!" But women don't EVER seem to notice how rude it is to point out my size as a negative thing.
I swear the media is pitting thin women against big women to start a cat fight! Maybe in Jello!
Just my 2cents

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
I used to think most weight issues were gene related, then I went to Paris for 10 days and could not believe that nearly the whole city is skinny. It didn't take long to figure out why, almost no fried foods, no fast food and they walk a ton every day. The funny thing is they eat a lot of fattening foods, butter on everything, lots of bread (yumm), oils. They have smaller portions but not a lot smaller. Also they don't eat a lot of vegies. Most meals had meat, bread, sauce and some vegies, very balanced.
The biggest difference was I was amazed at how much they walk compared to the us. I had blisters by the second day just following my buddy around. Then I considered my normal day and they walk more in a day than I do in a week.
The majority of the US is overweight because we get little to no exercise, eat poorly and/or eat too much.
It's funny I never really knew there was a curvey vs thin thing, I guess if you don't watch TV or read most magazines, you would not know. I just like girls period and I'm glad i'm not driven by the media.

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Just looked at your pics Holiday and you look awesome, don't let these people get you down. Those people are crazy. They look for anything to cut people down. I know I have been overweight most of my life and had to deal with it too. For me it was a lot harder when I was younger but I still deal with it today. Your either too skinny, too fat, too tall, too short, too dumb, too smart, too rich, too poor, too serious, too open, I could go on forever. I do my best to ignore them.
-
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Holiday I agree with you on that. When I was younger, I couldnt gain weight at ALL. I was about 65 lbs in 6th grade. YIKES. Anyway, people always called me twig, and whatnot, and it DOES hurt. What pisses me off is, ya call ONE person fat, and you are considered a bitch. But if they call you a twig, its ok??? I dont think so.
I understand how you feel...it happened to me too
-
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
holiday i kinda know what your talking about, im pretty thin and sometimes (jealous) people will be like " oh what do you care you're so skinny" or some shit like that, but in reality i work hard to stay in shape--it's like, SORRRYYY!!!
a friend of mine has your exact same problem, though. she has hyperthyroidism and is SUPERthin yet eats like a trucker, and people are constantly staring at her like she has 3 heads and asking her "ohmygawd are you anorexic?" "do you eat?!!" "eww you're so skinny" and ive been around when people say this shit and i feel bad for her....so annoying.

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
when i was younger I got a lot of the "your soooo skinny" especilly from my mom. I could eat anything I wanted (still do though) and I always weigh less then my little sister. then I hit puberty and got curves. now I get the "damn those are some big tits". and that makes me feel like thats all i am. breasts. just breasts. thats why I want a reduction (although the less back pain thing is a bonus).

So why the avatar? If you don't want to be reduced to your breasts, then it seems like an odd choice.

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
I call that pic "ami torso" I have others with just my breasts (I think I may have a few in the gallery). I see that one as an all inclusive artistic shot that also shows off my belly and some of my hips (not to mention part of my modified triangel). I actually originally took this pic on my phone to send to my husband (who enjoyed it). I also thought it appropriate for this type of forum. Here is my avitar for a cat forum I am on (my cats wont stay off the freaking counter!)

ami i know exactly what you are saying i used to feel that way too when i had bigger boobs...... people can be so cruel without even knowing it ..the final straw was one summer i was going to the mall and attempted to go across the street and this guy illegally parked his car, ran across the street and almost got hit, just to give me his card with his number and all the time he was talking to me his eyes were focused on my boobs i don't even think he knew what my face looked like >:( i was so embarassed i then just decided that even though i made alot of money with them it was not worth it..........sometimes people need to think before the do or say things to other people

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
I'm on to the media. They want you to be a slave and aspire to ideals that are unrealistic for almost anybody, no matter what they are. Screw 'em. Genetics and effort ultimately determine what most people will look like. Health is the sexiest thing. I like watching foreign flicks to get the scoop on what beauty is in a more realistic portrayal. There are few American celebrities that i would aspire to look like. Actually, Salma Hayek is my favorite and she's Mexican. Whoops, nevermind.
Can't be a waif? Can't be J.LO?

Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
A woman of any size can be beautiful, or she can be ugly. Anyway, I hate those phrases "Real women have curves" and "child-bearing hips". Real women have vaginas, and the skinniest girl can have a perfectly fine childbirth and recovery. I had no hips before I became pregnant, got hips during pregnancy, and now they have pretty much gone down to pre-pregancy size. I had a quick recovery after c-section (not related to my size) and my child and I are fine. No such thing as "child-bearing hips." Every woman's body is made to accomodate another little person, whether she has hips or not. I must say that I enjoyed getting larger hips during pregnancy, but now I enjoy being back to my original, skinnier self. Hell, I just enjoy my body period. Everyone else should, too, as long as they are healthy!
