Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Understand this ladies: Beauty magazines are not here to help you! I read them voraciously, but always keep in mind that between the glossy ads for clothing and face creams, the articles themselves are ads. Want the new "S-Curve" body? Call the plastic surgeons we mentioned in the article for a boob job and hip lipo! The article about reducing puffiness under the eyes is there to sell new creams "helpfully" mentioned to counteract a flaw you didn't even realize you had! And so on and so forth.
I might seem like a hypocrite, since I have a boob job, but the media really does need to get a grip. Being obese or anorexic isn't healthy or attractive, there are ranges of happy mediums, but it seems in Hollywood, anything beyond a 0 or 2 is considered curvy. Charlize Theron is a "proud" size 8. She's 6 feet tall! Anything below that would make her stop menstruating!
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Damn!
I had no idea this post would provoke such emotion! As I've said before, its about that .8 hip ratio more tban anything...I love so mny sexy bodies/faces/personality I've known...I was always on the skinny side myself until the last couples of years when my boobs/hip matured....we are soooo sensitive about ourselves, as am I...but I also know my talk versus action....when its action time..I don't think about my curviness or my Scores scale...I think of sales closure........

Right on, Nina! Although I like all those magazines, they promote a feeling of inferiority, especially for young girls. I can't count how many girls I'd see throwing up their lunches in the bathroom in high school.
The way you worded that about beauty magazines reminds me of a song.. lol.. the lyrics are below, and I agree with him on pretty much every word.
"Affirmation"
~Savage Garden~
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

HA!! seriously!! they might as well have a picture of Calista Flockhart next to it. :sarcastic:
and in this months W magazine where they have a cover that proclaims "Curves Ahead- the new Must Have Body" and inside there's numerous layouts featuring bone thin models...and in this months Vogue they have a "love your body" section, which is great, but again the same follow up layots with skinny skinny skinny girls...grrrr....i want someone like beyonce!!!
[sarcasm...]
Oh, come off it. Calista without curves? Didn't you see that one picture where her vertebre were sticking out? That counts for curves...or Lara Flynn Boyle...the way her knees stick out like softballs on a toothpick. Curves. Just because you don't agree with the "society's" definition of curves doesn't make them wrong. Geesh.
[/ sarcasm]
Charlize Theron...not. Definitely not curvy. Well, not the Jennifer Lopez, Carmen Electra, Beyonce curvy. I prefer those to Charlize, but at least they didn't pick Calista, Lara Flynn, or Courtney Cox...yikes.

Well...uh, is that before of after she gained weight to do that roll in Monster Ball? Everyone was talking how HUGE she got (I was expecting huge like Gilbert Grapes mom huge)...but, she wasn't, she was more like, you know, normal. A 30 pound gain for someone like Charlize takes her up to her more "ideal" weight...
Sad...I am curvy...and I like my curves...I feel sexy.

LOL must have missed those kickin' curves... now i know who Sir Mix a Lot was talkin about!
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Can someone please tell me why I even read these stupid women's magazines?? Are you guys like me, they make you feel crappy but you keep picking them up?
I wish people found more beauty in reality to show in magazines.
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
I agree with the thinner girls that the skinny jokes can be hurtful. Even though I am far from skinny I realise that calling someone a twig can be just as insulting as calling someone a cow. Even though I am happy with my body mostly but I don't know why I do this but I always compare myself to other women and dream about haveing their hips, boobs, legs, ect. I hate doing that but I'll admit I do it. Sometimes it consumes me and sometimes I think it boarders on the unhealthy. But anyway concerning the media I think they want actresses and models to be underweight because the camera adds ten pounds. In that movie Dancing at the Blue Iguana Daryl Hannah looked normal clothed but when she danced topless it was like WHOA!! I thought she looked way too skinny. It didn't even look sexy to me. I can only imagine what they look like in person if they look that skinny on the screen.
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
;D oh no, it's the SCJ site for that juicy information!

You know...if a girl is just THIN because that's her metabolism...that's one thing. But, Calista and Lara Flynn and Courtney Cox...they have major eating disorders. NO ONE'S BODY IS MADE TO LOOK LIKE A SKELETON WITH A LAYER OF SKIN. Even the thin girls have a needed layer of fat on their bodies...your body needs it. Fat helps protect the organs, keeps you warm(er). But, I am slender (I work out) and I get tired of being called a "big girl" because I am 5'5 and have curves. I have 20% body fat and work out regularly. I think the media just needs to take a break and stop promoting eating disorders...and unhealthy body images. Kate Winslet in Titanic was curvy (remember the back lash they got for that one???)...that's probably why they picked someone totally different this time around.
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
Venus I totallly agree with you. I work out consistantly, eat very healthy and drink water and watch my alcholalic drink consumption. Yet still little girls at work call me a "big girl". It is kind of annoying because yes like you I am in a normal fat percentage range yet girls always act like I am not thin enough. But yet I am at a healthy weight and I do not want to get smaller. I was not talking about aneroexic girls but petite ones. :)
Re:"The Return of Curves"-Yeah Right!
I eat healthy, i drink juice and water, when I was in FL i was HUGE, and I liked it. if a guy wanted something diffrent, something other then the lean tan fl girls, his only choice was me, i was diffrent in a good way.
last i checked my fat was 25% at 130lbs *gasp* a whole 3lbs overweight! oh no! whatever.... the 3lbs is prolly in my breasts anyway... :)
and i belive there is such a thing as "child bearing hips" wheather you get them before you get pregnant or just before you give birth they still have to be wide to do the job. and at a subconcious leval males are programed to prefer women who have hips like that, thats why we get them anyway. its natural selection at work....

You know what the funniest thing is? The last time I worked with one of those girls at my old club...I brought a LBM detector. Hehehe...the skinny little brat had 24% BF and no muscle tone. I hit a 21% and my muscles are solid. Shut her up pretty quick. She may be skinnier than me, but I am completely healthy. Besides, I know that she was only saying "smack" about me because she was jealous. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs...and I still had the energy to get through 9 hours of dancing. She couldn't get up on stage without a few drinks and couple of hits. Sad.
