Gun! To the dressing room!
I posted this story in detail on SCJ in our "Night at the Office" thread, but I thought this one deserved to be posted here too. I know most girls don't read SCJ...
[snip]
I decided to freshen up in the dressing room before hitting my next victim, but on the way some guy stopped me for a dance. Ok no prob. We were dancing, nearly done with the fourth song, when I caught sight of a scuffle out the corner of my eye, then suddenly people were scattering everywhere, and I heard someone yell "gun". This is something that has always bothered me as a dancer in the back of my mind - the possibility of a weapon being brought in and used in my workplace. As soon as I heard "gun" I went on autopilot, jumped up, grabbed my purse and customer and ran like hell to the dressing room. Wasn't even thinking, dragged the customer right in there with me LOL. Think I muttered something like "oh shit, let's go" along the way. I can only imagine what he was thinking. Heh, I'd left my clothes in the chair where we'd been dancing and didn't even realize it for a minute. This one old waitress was in there, along with most of the girls, and there was one other random customer back there looking both confused and pleased at the same time. The old waitress (uptight) started yelling that the guys couldn't be back there, and started shooing them out, saying they could go to the men's room. I still had my customer's arm and turned to him and said, "hey I guess you need to go out the door". Remembering he still owed me $40, I went with him and we stood just outside the door next to the men's room door. Dressing room and men's room doors are perpendicular. Hell I'd have gone IN the men's room with him at that point. He seemed rather calm, but my heart was beating 90 to nothing. We watched the commotion until it cleared up, people went back to seats and the DJ put on the next song, with nothing more than an "excuse that interruption". Girls started dancing again, and my customer and I went back to the table. Most of the chairs along that wall had been vacated, so he took the opportunity to get a better seat, I collected my clothes and we got situated again. This all happened in under 4 minutes, as it started near the end of a song and was over by the end of the next one.
The customer got all mushy then, gave me a big fat hug and exclaimed "boy that was some motherly instinct you had, trying to protect me like that - do you have kids?" LOL....."No it was just an automatic reaction." I was still kinda shaky though, and mouth was dry. Needed water. "I need water, be right back." On the way back from the bar I stopped at DJ to see if my turn was coming up, seemed like it should be. Yep I was next. Pick song, back to customer to collect the $40 and go on stage. He wanted me to come back, PLEASE. Ok sure.
[snip]
Back to customer. He just couldn't get over how I'd dragged him in the dressing room over the incident, and kept hugging me and thanking me for 'protecting him'. At one point he even thanked me for saving his life LOL! He kept me dancing til closing, which was 16 more songs, so I was happy.
[snip]
Turns out there was a fight, some white guy called a black guy a nigger, and the black guy didn't take kindly to it. Thinking about it, the mayhem erupted from the same area where the drunk "white boy" I'd danced for earlier was sitting. Anyway, the club has 'undercover' security hired to hang out in the crowd, and they carry weapons. When the fight broke out and they didn't seem to get it under control fast enough, the security dude drew his weapon. Since he was 'undercover' (plainclothes), bystanders didn't know he was security so people started scrambling in a hurry. This club also has metal detector wands and they scan everybody before letting them in. I remember commenting with my customer at one point how strange it was there would be a gun in the building with them scanning everyone at the door.
The full report can be read on SCJ, reply #200

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Jesus Christ, B! How crazy. I can't believe the security guy was so fast to pull a gun - must have been a serious fight.
Wow, metal detectors at the club. I know they have them at some clubs in Houston, but that would give me pause.
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Guess the presence of metal detectors affects me differently. When I see that, I feel more comfortable that there won't be a bunch of drunk customers packing heat. Lots of guys carry guns, not just 'gangsters'. Alcohol and guns don't mix. I like the metal detectors. I've seen them in several clubs and I think more clubs should use them. I don't see it as a sign the club gets alot of 'trouble', but more that the owners are prudent enough to make efforts at avoiding it.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
I'm glad you got alot of dances out of it!! ;) Oh and I am very glad you are safe too.LOL Always thinking of money first well you can see where my priorities lay! No seriously it is good no one got hurt. And good for you milking all that money from that guy!!!

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
I don't agree with security of any kind carrying a gun while in the employ of a bar.A gun only adds to the hysteria when pulled,it doesnt solve a damn thing. Not to mention what would happen if during a fight someone was able to roust the gun from the undercover guy/s.....Luckily this time no one was hurt only just freaked out.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
This happened at a club I used to work at. But, the gun was a customer's. It fell out on the floor during a fight and the bouncer picked it up. Luckily no one got hurt. I'm sorry this happened. The things we deal with. Everything happens for a reason. I guess so you could make more cash. =)

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
WOW Bridgette, thats some scary stuff!
I think thats awesome that you did drag the guy with you (instinct). :) That always shows how nice some people are. I think I'd have done the same. :) You go girl, and lucky for you that he appreciated it.
Damn Id be so scared if this actually happened at my club. Yikes!
Glad everyone is ok.
And to the dumb white guy... he shouldnt be allowed back. wtf? :(

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Glad you are ok doll!!
I've been learning how to shoot an automatic gun for some potential sales training, its very thrilling, and I can see how some people in a position of pseudo-power can become trigger happy.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Yeah I can't say I agree with bar security having a gun either. In this case, it definitely added to the hysteria, and as Blade points out, it could wind up causing more trouble than it's worth. Not a good scene. I like having all the security around, but I don't like the gun in the bar.
LOL! But I really just thought it was funny (later of course) that I dragged that guy to the dressing room, and his reaction struck me funny too. Then there was the random guy that wound up back there too, with the goofy expression on his face. Picture every customer's fantasy, to get into the dressing room with all the girls. Those two made it back there! Score! LOL too bad the reason it happened was what it was.

Bridgette~ I couldn't agree more and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I always had the same fear in the back of my head. I used to worry sometimes that a dancer stalker would go loco in a club. Watching RL on tuscl gives me the creeps in that respect :scared:
I'm a believer in trusting your instincts, good for you for listening to yours

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
OMG Bridgette-how scarey. Glad you're ok! And as much as the customer gushed, I can't say I blame him-it was sweet of you to worry about him. So many people are concerned only with #1.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Wow Bridgette, next time someone pulls a gun, I wanna be standing next to you!
Is it a full moon? It was a really weird night at my club too...
Lena
PS - I agree with Blade about the gun thing...

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
irate customers with guns in the club, irate dancers with guns in the dressing room, been there done that - hit the floor and stay there till the excitement is over, then start looking for a better class club !
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
WOW! That is insane! I am so sorry, that would have scared the living daylights out of me!
On a brighter note, at least you made some cash and maybe a long term customer!!
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
It wasn't the customers who had the gun, it was the undercover hired security! I still don't feel it's cool for club security to have guns in there, as Blade pointed out already it could make things worse. Obviously the presence of a gun caused alot of chaos unnecessarily at my club the other night. Security or not, bystanders only saw a gun and freaked out! I'm glad I was far enough away from the core of it to avoid getting caught up in the herd.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
security at PP memphis carry 9mm in holsters on them, but when i was there they were mostly outside in the parking lot. at least you could see they were armed. made me feel safe.
glad everything turned out ok for you bridgette

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Well what we have, besides the regular bouncers, is 'undercover' security. Like undercover cops I guess, in plainclothes hanging out, and their guns are not visible. I didn't know we had this undercover security or that anyone hired had guns until this incident.
LOL I guess I was less concerned about the gun and the part that I thought was funny was my own reaction. Never dreamed I'd drag a customer to the dressing room for any reason! Perhaps I'm a tad jaded but I don't feel uncomfortable working there after this - I know the same crap (or worse) could happen at any club. More clubs should use metal detectors!
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Yeah, Bridgette I agree. I dont agree with security having a gun. THOUGH, on a different note, had they been wearing "Security" shirts, then people would have figured they were doing there job 9to a degree) but since they were undercover, they looked like they were regular customers with a gun. TOTALLY different, and more scary I think.
Yikes!

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
I wouldn't have a problem with the metal detectors, depending on the place they might be a good idea, but I would definately have a problem with security guys carrying guns while inside the club. If they've already ensured that the customers don't have guns why do they need to carry them themselves? Makes no sense to me. About a year ago there was a nightclub disaster in Chicago where pepper spray used *by security* caused a panic and stampede and 21 people died. Of course the circumstances were very different, but I do think it shows a danger of security using an inappropriate weapon inside the confined space of a club. And using a gun inside a dark, smoky club where innocent bystanders are going to be everywhere is completely inappropriate imho. The "panic" factor is also huge with a gun, which is exactly what sparked the stampede at E2 in Chicago.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
I agree, crowd control is serious business, and weapons are the last thing that need to be brought out in these situations. I think most of the time they definitely cause more harm than good.

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Okay, here's my scary gun story, even though I wasn't a witness.
I'm in Minnesota, but at least once a year I travel homewards to the South to visit family and some select friends. One of these friends introduced me to the wonders of strip clubs, and annually we'll go check out a club or two. So we head over to Columbus, Georgia, which has a military base and has some not-so-good clubs but some okay ones as well.
Columbus over the last few years has cracked down on the clubs, and our favorite club has suffered because of it. No longer nude, pasties required, the already air dances pushed further back. But still, it's a nice place to get a drink, relax and throw out some extraneous cash. We went there first, but it was kinda dead, so we went to a new place.
Well, it was dead because it was the day after Thanksgiving (duh!), and the new club was dead as well. However, we got to talking to a lovely dancer and it turns out my buddy knew her from the other club. The other club became the topic of conversation, and the dancer expressed relief at having left there because of all the fighting and disturbances at the club. My friend and I were surprised because we had never seen such behavior - quite the opposite.
Well, anyway, a nice if uneventful time was had and we return homewards. The next morning we are greeted with headlines screaming gunplay and murder in the strip club. Yup, we had missed it. In that newer club that afternoon before we got there, some psycho regular got mad at a GI tipping his favorite on stage, went up behind him, stuck a gun in his back and started pulling the trigger. GI died; I don't know the ultimate fate of the nutjob.
It's crazy out there, and with Minnesota law allowing people to carry guns on their person I'm always cognizant that there are probably some in the club. And then there's always alcohol. Not a good combo. Just makes me extra careful.
Okay, now some non-fearful, non-violent images!

Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
I guess this goes along with what some of us are afraid of when dealing with some psycho PLs. Stress the word psycho. The scary thing is you can never really tell who is psycho and who's not.
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
One plausible reason for armed security: robberies. There's a lot of money that goes through strip clubs, a lot of cash. That makes it a great target for a robbery, and the criminals might very well have guns on them.
I do think, though, that it was wrong for the guard to pull his gun in that situation, and I'm generally anti-guns. However, shit does happen, and clubowners don't want to lose a ton of dough if they can help it.
-
Re:Gun! To the dressing room!
Has anyone ever heard of a SC robbery, other than skimming? I can see the point, but I'm thinking a gun in the hands of a bouncer/security is probably more trouble than it's worth. Too many variables there.
