Questions for the Veterans
I know being a newbie this should go in the newbie board, but I feel like I need to ask everyone in the general board. I have a ton of questions. :D ???
-1 How do you get started....auditions, amateur nights, (I'm scared to just walk into a club and ask for a manager.....and I don't know any other way to do it.) If I were to do an audition, what do you do for it and what time of the day do you do it?
-2 Clothing and makeup.....I've seen some outfits, but not many. I saw a really cute getup the second time I went to a club that was short booty shorts and a small top. (I'm small breasted so what would work) Do you wear T-bars underneath? Also, where the heck do you guys get the T-bars. And as for makeup.....right now I'm into Lancome, Clinique, Urban Decay and MAC. (I know expensive stuff, but the department store card I have has no interest so I use it to buy makeup... :P) I love to do makeup, do you normally go heavier to look sexier, or can you do a summerish look and pull it off? Also hair, I know basically one style, and that's all I've ever worn my hair as, straighten, parted in middle, long blonde. Do you guys do each others hair, I wouldn't even know where o start to make it look different.
-3 Weeknights vs. weekends. Obviously it'll be slower during the week, but how does the money really compare on average. Also, big club vs. small club. Is there really a big difference (I'll prolly start small since I'm so new) Can some of you give me an ESTIMATE as to how much you make per day/ per week? It would help a lot.
-4 Music. How do you select, how does it work. I've heard of "sets" how do they work? The club I went to and watched the girls would roam the floor and one by one go up on stage for one song, at the end of the song they would go to the cage which was a bunch of bars shaped like a cage in the middle towards to back of the club where they would basically do more stage work.
-5 Stage. What do you do up there. I've watched and it seems nerve racking. I love to dance as it is, but I watched as guys would stand next to the stage money in hand and the girl would saunter over to them then proceed to basically molest the guy. Some of the ways were humourous, some were straight up raunchy. One girl faced the guy put her legs on his shoulders then basically humped his face. It looked kinda stupid to me. Some girls smash their tits into the guys face, some do it really sexy and get on their knees and do some floor work right in front of em, barely touching them. I personally could not see myself humping a guys face, but I would put my tits up there. Any suggestions for the stage when guys approach?
Holy crap I wrote a lot, but if I could get some answers it would help SO damn much! (I've had these questions pent up for awhile) Thanks! ;D
Re:Questions for the Veterans
Most of this is learn as you go. You've already gone to at least one club and seen what goes on in that one. I suggest you visit more clubs in the area to get a better picture what the local scene is like. There will be one you feel more comfortable in than others, and that is the one you should start with.
When you've picked a club, just ask for a manager and tell them you want to dance. It's that simple. Can't be scared of that, if you can't even ask for the manager you won't do so well with all it takes to dance. Find you nerves and just go for it hun!
Makeup, we all play around with that. Generally speaking, you will need more in the club than you would use for daytime, or regular stuff. Club lights wash your face out so you need more makeup to accentuate your features. Use makeup that focuses on your best features!
Hair, however you want. The long blonde works very well, if you are comfortable with that, go with it.
Pick music you like and enjoy dancing to. Slow is usually not a good idea. A medium or upbeat paced song is better. Sets are different at different clubs. Some you have to do one song on stage, some 2 or 3. Some clubs have more than one stage that you do consecutively, some rotate so you're only doing one at a time. You do what they do at whatever club you're at.
Stage, you'll learn as you go. Watch what other girls do, find stuff you like and are comfortable with, incorporate it into your own style. Dancing is very much something you constantly keep learning....
HTH!!!
Re:Questions for the Veterans
brigette said it all!!! But wow girl you are really thinking this out I remeber not knowing either and just going to fedricks to get a outfit and going to audtion at the first club I ever entered and then as I grew and looked the part went to the bigger and better clubs. You will learn and you will get better as the years go on. One thing though I am happy I went with the smaller club to get used to it and anything I did stupid who cared it was learning time so when I went to the high roller club I knew what I was doing. Well good luck honey....
Re:Questions for the Veterans
Some quick answers- always talk to the dancers in addition to the management when you get ready to audition. The management will usually glad-hand you, but most dancers I talked to were straight up about the place.
Hair and makeup- do what makes you look best and feel happiest. Find a way to buy cheaper makeup since you will go through a lot of it. Outfits and shoes- buy on the Internet, dancewear shops have murderous markups. Lots of clubs have traveling costume salespeople come in too.
I can't say there's a hard and fast rule about weekends versus weekdays in every club, if you work a club with 30+ dancers jammed in every weekend. I usually make more on weekdays with businessmen and the bored and lonely at night. The club's a madhouse on the weekend.
Music, usually the DJ picks: the nice ones work with you, the bad ones make you tip for requests. If you get to choose your own, go to town, dance to what you like, you'll do well.
Dancing- don't do anything you don't want to! If you went to a club that was sleazebag to you, go find a better one to work at. You won't be happy at a club you're not comfortable in. I've worked in clubs ranging from full bikini- absolutely no touching to hookers in the back- coochie grabbing on stage. NO, I wasn't thrilled about the grabby handed men. I kicked some ass.
Re:Questions for the Veterans
I agree - Bridgette pretty much covered the bases. When I first started, I went to LOTS of clubs. There are "strip" clubs and there are "gentleman's" clubs. Check a few out and see first where you are more comfortable - what atmosphere you feel your personality will fit in better.
I found in the beginning that most dancers are more than happy to give you some tips when you visit their clubs and once you decide where you want to work and you do start dancing, just ask for advice and more often than not, you will get it.
As far as hair, costumes and make-up are concerned, everyone has their own tastes - while 1 customer may love blondes in long gowns, another may like the spikey haired brunette dressed as a school girl. Just do some test runs and your personality will come through and you will eventually come up with a look all your own.
Good luck to you. Keep us posted!!!!! xo
Re:Questions for the Veterans
Wow thanks girls, u guys have been a BIG help. I had one good question that I saw in one of the replies, whats the difference between "Strip clubs" and "gentlemans clubs" ? Thanks
Re:Questions for the Veterans
I agree on the music, pick more upbeat music to start with because most newbies tend to dance quite fast naturally until they begin to pace themselves. Once you get the hang of movement, you could go slower.
Gentlemen's Clubs tend to be more upscale than the average strip club. Generally, what this means is that dancers normally have to present themselves more ''professionally'' (for want of a better word) meaning that there is a gown rule either all night or before midnight and that contact is generally kept to more of a minimum. Some of these types of clubs can be very picky about who they hire too.
In strip clubs, it's more liberal. Dancers can wear shorter dresses and it's a little more informal This does not mean that it is any less better than a gentleman's club. Sometimes earning potential can be better!!
Just try and find a club you feel you 'gel' with and go for an audition. There really is nothing to lose. If you feel stripping is for you, it's best to start the business soon so you have time to get into it and learn how to pull the ropes to maximise your earnings!!
Good luck.
