Mostly when I talk to the ladies at a club (unless I've known them awhile) it is just small talk. If I don't know them I really don't care about their boyfriend, shopping or like of that. I can rarely find anyone (dancer or anyone else) that can talk about current events whose views aren't altered by the press or television.
Sandy, yes loads of fun. Especially when they're too dumb or scared to re-engage. :duel:
Rhi, yes, Sarah Jessica Parker.
Honestly I think alot of the brighter bulbs, so to speak, are the dancers who keep to themselves at work. Sad part is that often ends up being labled as snooty :-\
Also I think alcohol plays a big part in the Jerry Springer scene . Even the most intelligent people can do and say some dumb things when they are intoxicated.
while the parent post might well have been a troll, the topic itself is valid. at the place i work at now, 90 percent of the girls (black, white and hispanic) fit your ghetto-fabulous or trailerpark stereotypes. however, that said, i don't think they are 'stupid' necessarily. most of them give amazing stage shows, and several are very good hustlers offstage. i'm book-smart, but i am still incredibly awkward onstage, so compared to them in a club setting, i'm pretty stupid and will have to educate my body to fit in with the higher level of stage performance.
i figure everyone knows something you don't, and it can't hurt to hear about it from time to time. i might even end up asking/paying one of those girls to help with my stage performance.
Heh, the loud stupid girls are the only ones you hear because the smarter ones are too busy working to get involved in nonsense. If they do happen to speak in the dressing room, it gets drowned out by the roar of the stupid loud girl. So the smart ones realize quickly that speaking in that environment is futile and continue to keep quiet.
;D
LOL, you guys are too funny! heres a comment, Some strippers are stupid , some are not, regardless of occupation, there are smart and stupid people everywhere, why should it be an issue in stripping only.
Perhaps, you don't hate your job because you percieve neanderthalls about, but because you just need to cheer up! Confusion and lack of sleep is more irritating to mental contentment than others' stupidity. Be steadfast and quiet
with the pride of intellingence you have...Being that I THINK I am 'smart' I'll say that smart people only want conversations with smart people to proove how smart they are! You don't need to proove it everyday do you? Surely you appreciate
that they are at least civil enough for you to be kind to them. Good Luck ..maybe there was really radiation near their house or something.....
My fav is an Asst Professor at a very prestigious local university (you would probably recognize the name if I told you) I enjoy her intelligence as well as her good looks.
I asked her once why she dances. Her response was:
1) Her "stipend" from the university while shes working on her doctorate is only $35,000 a year. Who the hell could live on that?
2) In spite of all the drama, she says stripping is fun. She has met tons of cool people (including me ;D) and really enjoys it...never a dull moment.
I'll be happy for her when her educational quest is complete. Shes worked her ass off for a long time. I assume she will hang up her stilletos at that point. Evil FBR hopes that she may want to keep dancing just for a little excitement if nothing else. I will miss her if and when she leaves.

Good God, I wish you all could have been there during Bike Week at the club I was doing body painting. I have spent many nights in this one club's dressing room, and it is a freak show. This is in Daytona, not a city renowned for intellectual achievement of any kind. This year my girl was with me to witness for herself the outrageous tales I had told her. The women in this club, with a few noteable exceptions, are the kind that give rise to the distorted stereotype.Quote:

You can imagine how happy I was, eighteen months ago, to discover Stripperweb, and find out that I had been getting a distorted view. I was used to working with women, even in the 'better' Daytona clubs, who rarely read books or used polysyllabic words.
There ARE many intelligent dancers, both here on SW, and in many clubs all over the country. My girlfriend (the Valedictorian) deals with the stigma of the dumb dancer quite well, though she sometimes finds it frustrating...
My favorite story about her concerns a skeptical guy who wrote out a very complicated calculus equation on a napkin and sat back with a smug smile, expecting her to be helpless and confused. She, loving calculus, gleefully and instantly solved it, and handed it back to him with a big smile of her own...
It is sad but true, however, that a disgustingly large proportion of men, of all intellectual levels of achievement, are much happier with women who are subservient (i.e., dumb), so that their pathetic egos might be gratified and inflated. This tendency is most fomented and pronounced in strip clubs, thus forcing women of intelligence to stifle or disguise it in hopes of making a better living--and perpetuating the stereotype of the dumb stripper.
Whether this poster is fake or not (and her unfortunate choice of nomenclature notwithstanding) if she had worked in the environment I had, she could easily have written this post and meant it--but I am so very glad to see you all proving her wrong.
No way. Most dancers I have met are smart and know how to make money, I get the impression they find the money easier to make with their bodies rather than other skills they may have.
LOL every time I have seen Springer, it's made me grateful my life is ONLY been as screwed up as it is!Quote:

I really don't feel the need to justify my intelligence to any fellow dancer, customer, or troll on SW. ::)
Unfortunately, very true. While there is a small group of customers who do appreciate and enjoy the company of an intelligent dancer, the majority will quickly pass her up in favor of another dancer who is less 'challenging', easier to impress etc. With those customers, the most intelligent thing that an intelligent dancer can do is play dumb !Quote:

Sometimes it takes a really smart girl to act dumb as dirt.
I swear that's at least the 3rd time I've said that on here. I'm going to make that my new siggy. Yeah, I'm doin' it right now!
Lets not forget that a lot of guys just up and assume that women are stupid regardless of what they do. This seems to be more pronounced the more obviously 'female' one is. I'm sure this perpetuates the myth, as well.
And then there's shows like "Married: With Children" feeding into that, not to mention Howard Stern goofing on dancers for not knowing who the 16th president was, like anyone cares. Stuff like that.
Plus, catty women like to think themselves superior in at least one way, hence the "dumb [insert-type-of-desirable-woman-here]" steriotypes (Pushing people down to raise ones self up, i guess).
In other words, a lot of the "stripper=dumb bimbo" myth comes from outside the industry all together, often from people who have never actually met anyone on the inside.
No! Say it isn't so!Quote:

I think this is true for attractive people, in general. I'm guilty of seeing a really hot, muscular guy, and making the unfair assumption that he's a drooling meathead. Plus you are right....it seems people want to push the "stupid" assumption on attractive people to give them a fault. It's just not fair to be hot AND smart (of course, it's not fair to be dumb and ugly, and we all know there's lots of that out there.)Quote:

[begin off topic rant]
Ok...I just had to throw this in here. I heard about that movie "Dancing at the Blue Iguana". I read the back of the video cover and it said that it was made to "show what strippers are really like" to "get rid of the myth". OMG...not only was it the stupidest movie ever made, but every stripper was a pot-smoking, insane, doped up whore!! WTF?? How was this supposed to make strippers "look better"? Grrrrrrrr...If only they would make a REAL movie about strippers. Strippers who have some intelligence and dance at upscale clubs, and whose replies to customers asking for a blow job isn't "$100".
I almost broke the DVD in half, I was so annoyed.
[/end off topic rant]

Somebody please define "STUPID" as applied to strippers. I've met dancers with graduate degrees
who could speak three languages fluently. I've met a few who never finished high school but who routinely
left their club with $2000 in their purse as they climbed into a brand new Mercedes or BMW. Just proves you
don't need a degree from MIT or a genius I.Q. to make
Big Money. Some highly educated people I've met
are dreadfully boring. Some less educated folks are
genuinely interesting and fun to be with.
With as much objectivity and honesty as possible- When
I compare the intellect of dancers I've known (as a group) to that of non-dancers I also know- I would say
that it is comparable. But so what! I approach dancers
as individuals anyway. I don't assume anything about
her just because she dances for a living as opposed to
working as a nurse or in an office or waiting tables or
whatever.
You don't need to be smart to make money.
You don't need to be smart to dance.
You really don't need to be smart to run a country.
.....Being Smart is overrated.

what she said ;)
Most of the important facts that have needed to be said have already been said although I must back up Lexi when it comes to the fact that there is a NEW member...yet no replys from "the oh so intelligent one"..........hmm
