A question for the dancers
I am starting some research for a book I plan to be writting and more than likely a dancer will be one of the main characters for it. I am looking to get many aspects of how dancers handle themselves, their psyches ect ect to give a more authentic feeling for the book and what not. It will not be the normal thing such as the girl is a drug addict ect ect but I need to get a better idea of the life of a dancer. If any of you all are interested and helping me out contact me for further information through a PM.
Thanks
Joey
Re:A question for the dancers
If you want to write a book, you sould start by learning the proper abbreviation for et cetera.
Re:A question for the dancers
Wasn't it Yul Brenner in "the King and I" who said it best:
"Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera and so forth... "
???
Re:A question for the dancers
Ok, I'll admit it. I had to look for that one in my Harbrace College Handbook.
et cetera [and so forth] = etc. not ect.
I guess I just don't use that abbreviation often enough to give it any thought. English grammar lessons on Stripper Web - how 'bout that?!
Re:A question for the dancers
Read the book "strip City". Also read as much of this site as you can stand. There is great info here to let you know what goes on in the ladies everyday lives.
Also, if you pose questions here in the future, don't mention that you are writing a book, the ladies here hate that line.

I know how many times can people ask the same damn questions and start it with.."I am writing a book"
Like I told the last guy...if you want extensive knowledge on REAL AUTHENTIC STRIPPERS.....beings that would be part of your research....and WHY the book would sell...I think the ladies involved should be compensated. Not trying to sound like a money grubbing whore...BUT...why would we take time to give you personal details of our life ...for nothing.
Re:A question for the dancers
LOL Tori..
I was about to reply the same thing- if someone wants to "get into the life of strippers" then he must surely get into the life of strippers.. which means getting into the clubs, paying some for their time, and getting first hand knowledge by finding ones willing to be compensated for this.
I wouldn't expect this to be different for anyone else in any industry. I mean, if I were writing a book about IT Professionals, I'd be recruiting from IT companies, finding those with a substantial number of years in the business, and pay them for their time... as well as pay for a few lunch/dinner interviews.
Posting on forums and using the internet to get a grapple on human nature is a pretty dumb, lazy and cheap method. The internet is GREAT for black and white polling, but totally sucks for getting realistic, accurate and exposing information from individuals concerning their nature.
... not to mention it's more often just a device by some putz to try and weasel some untold underlying agenda...
Re:A question for the dancers
I always wondered why people come to a message board for advice on a stripper book? Why not hit the clubs...Many, and watch what goes on. That is first hand information. Also i think there is enough info here on this board to write two books 350 pages long by now.

SO what happens to all of the books people come on here and claim to be writing??
How come I never see "I just wrote a book on strippers...".
UGH!!!
Re:A question for the dancers
For the most part they don't get published, don't sell like the salacious title would indicate when they are, and go out of print in a couple of years. There are 34 of them on my shelves, and most are either by ex-strippers or consist of a feminist critique of the business. I take it you hear this line a lot?

Naw, that's what editors are for!
JTFK- probably, just read through the site and go to clubs...but don't mention that you're writing a book because that's basically like saying "i'm going to stereotype you horribly because there's no way I can possibly get it right, not being a dancer myself and all".
Are there any books out there with dancers as characters, where the fact that she/he isa dancer is mentioned but beside the point- ie. not a major driving force of the character's conflicts or personality? I'd like to read it if so.
Re:A question for the dancers
i think he should throw on a dress, a pair of 7 1/2 inch platforms and listen to guys ask him if he'd like to go out for dinner later. Maybe then his "book" would be less impersonal.
