The Great Louisianna Hip Hugger ban... (Can anything be stupider?)
Louisiana May Ban Low-Slung Pants
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - People who wear low-slung pants that expose skin or ``intimate clothing'' would face a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time under a bill filed by a Jefferson Parish lawmaker.
State Rep. Derrick Shepherd said he filed the bill because he was tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults.
The bill would punish anyone caught wearing low-riding pants with a fine of as much as $500 or as many as six months in jail, or both.
``I'm sick of seeing it,'' said Shepherd, a first-term legislator. ``The community's outraged. And if parents can't do their job, if parents can't regulate what their children wear, then there should be a law.''
The bill would be tacked onto the state's obscenity law, which restricts sexual activity in public places and the sale of sexually explicit items.
Joe Cook, head of the American Civil Liberties Union's Louisiana chapter, said the bill probably does not meet the U.S. Supreme Court's standard for the prohibition of obscene behavior under the First Amendment.
``What about a woman who is wearing a bathing suit under her garment or she has something like a sarong wrapped around her and it's below her waist,'' he said. ``I can think of a lot of workers, plumbers, who are working and expose their buttocks .

This has got to be the silliest law i have ever heard proposed. I'd cry myself to sleep if the outlawed Hip-Huggers in STL.

Another dose of Big Brother-just what everyone needs
Government reps are really annoying the hell out of me..I think I hate them all.
I'll shush now tho, I could go on forever (and get just as frustated) talking about how our country is becoming less and less "free".

:loco:
Doesn't this fall under the "Freedom of Expression"????? I think this is the dumbest lame assed thing I have read.
I think this senator needs a bus full of women all in low hip huggers to arrive on his freaking door step, and when he opens the door they all turn around and reveal their ass cracks.

Re:The Great Louisianna Hip Hugger ban... (Can anything be stupider?)
SO pants that expose skin, huh? All pants expose skin above the top of them, although it is entirely up to the wearer if the skin above is the waistline, the belly or further south. How low is too low is what i wanna know? Since the second part of that is intimate clothing being revealed, they make tiny tee thongs for a reason and not everyone wears underwear so who has set forth a specific measure of what is acceptable and unacceptable? This is like the Atlanta strip club pubic hair standard- just DAMN STUPID!

And these kinds of laws will be upgraded to 3 strike laws as well .....meaning 3rd conviction ='s a felony :headache:

Grr this continues to bother me... not just this particular law, but all the brothering they're doing. This is what gets me:
"State Rep. Derrick Shepherd said he filed the bill because he was tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults. ..`I'm sick of seeing it,'' said Shepherd, a first-term legislator. "
The words "he was tired".. and "I'm sick of..." Hello?! Didn't realize they were in office to serve themselves.

Louisiana is a fucked up bible belt state anyway. I hate that place. They are so backwards and corrupt too.
One town I went to there several years back had a "new law" prohibiting alcohol sales on Sunday. What kind of new law is that.
A weird state.

Reminds me of my favorite Jean-Paul Sartre quote:
"Hell is other people."
